Merrick here...
Early last month, Brett Ratner did an interview with MTV regarding BEVERLY HILLS COP 4.
A particular quote in the interview lead many to the logical conclusion that the new BHC project would have a considerably softer tone/rating than its predecessors.
When asked what is biggest challenge would be, Ratner seemed to indicate that his new film would be geared towards a very PG audience.

Hey folks, Harry here... The cover of the new Entertainment Weekly has Kirk & Spock v.2.0 on the cover doing their best "strike a pose" - but inside the issue is the real treats - actual shots from the film. It is strange, it feels like a million years ago when JJ showed me the brief snippets of STAR TREK that he was willing to share, but looking at the below still of Sylar as SPOCK - I can't help but remember just how perfect he was in the scenes I saw. Quinto nailed the Nimoy thing. Had the eyebrow gymnastics down and the slight wry irony of observing these Humans down perfectly.

To say that I’m not a fan of George W. Bush is a bit of an understatement.

ScoreKeeper here with the kind of news I’m not fond of reporting. On October 11, 2008, American film composer, arranger, and trumpeter, Neil Hefti passed away suddenly at the age of 85.
A native of Hastings, Nebraska, Hefti had an amazingly diverse and prolific musical career which began composing and arranging for a variety of jazz legends including Woody Herman and Count Basie.

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with a chat I had with RELIGULOUS director Larry Charles. I had a blast talking with Charles about religion and his work with Bill Maher. I think we cover some very interesting ground.
There was a fuck-up with my interview with Bill Maher, which I’ll go into detail about below this interview, but suffice it to say through no fault of Maher’s I ended up getting only one or two decent questions in and I’ll slap those on the bottom of this interview, with a lead-in to how things went so wrong.

This is a long, entertaining interview, so I won't bore you with a protracted introduction. Basically, a small group of online journalists were offered the chance to have lunch with Karen Allen a few weeks ago, and I had no choice but to accept. An hour-plus with Marion Ravenwood? Jenny Hayden? Boone's girlfriend, Katy? ("I'm in love with a retard." "Is he bigger than me?") Um, yeah, I'm in.

Merrick here...
..with a few thoughts on the much-discussed CALL OF DUTY: WORLD AT WAR Beta that launched over the weekend.
Before we go any further, it's important to understand the perspective with which I'm approaching this game. Regular readers may recall that I'm a huge video game fan, but I also consider myself something of a casual gamer.

Hey, everyone. “Moriarty” here.
I’ve got more Fantastic Fest reviews still coming. I have a feeling I’ll chip away at those for a while. One of the films I really adored, though, is the new documentary NOT QUITE HOLLYWOOD, which is a loving look back at a whole wave of filmmakers who revitalized the Australian film industry using sex, violence, and a whole lot of stuntmen who seemed perfectly willing to die on camera.

Hey folks, Harry here... It is outrageous that Warner Brothers never got it together to release a FINISHED film - that even a Weinstein could open in October - that has an amazing one sheet ready for release - and trailers that are screaming to be cut. The friggin' title is the catch phrase - and the line, "THIS HALLOWEEN - WILL YOU TRICK R TREAT?" "WHY SAW, WHEN YOU CAN TRICK R TREAT?" Horror fans, when they see the film, dig the hell out of it. And SIDESHOW is already selling the toys, Mask companies have the costumes and masks... WHY DO THEATERS NOT HAVE THIS MOVIE?

Hey folks, Harry here with this week’s DVD PICKS & PEEKS. Lots of good stuff this time out. As always if you click on the title or the box you’ll go to AMAZON where you can learn more on the title – or if you’re feeling “the urge” you can purchase the title – and a small portion of the expense will go to support this column. I hope you find some gems, they’re certainly there this week… Check out that David Lean Blu Ray!
