Merrick here...
Early last month, Brett Ratner did an interview with MTV regarding BEVERLY HILLS COP 4.
A particular quote in the interview lead many to the logical conclusion that the new BHC project would have a considerably softer tone/rating than its predecessors.
When asked what is biggest challenge would be, Ratner seemed to indicate that his new film would be geared towards a very PG audience.

Hey, Harry,
I had a great, great time doing this. I'd love to do it again if it works out, and thanks again for the barbecue hook up. Black's was alright, but didn't hold a candle to Smitty's. I've learned my lesson. Thanks for chatting with my pals, too. They're great kids, and it meant the world to them that you were so cool with them.
Here's my last write-up for the fest, and hell, yeah, let's talk about Fantastic Fest.

Hey folks, Harry here with some news out of SXSW. In Mike Fleming's article about Tim Burton's Charles Addams' ADDAMS FAMILY. And the headline seemed to suggest that it would be the next 3D Animated film from Tim Burton... What I find odd is that Mike does mention FRANKENWEENIE in the body of the article as being a film that Tim "is making"...

DAY SEVEN
Harry’s already raved about RICHARD GARRIOT: MAN ON A MISSION, and the only thing I can really add to it is this - if you think Harry might be compromised by being too close to the subject (as he discusses in his review), you’re wrong. It really is that good. The film’s a wonderful reminder of how important space travel is, and what an incredible dream it is. The film gave me a smidgen of genuine hope for the future of humanity, and if you knew me, you’d know that’s a big deal.

At ShoWest, Warner president Alan Horn confirmed the coming of another FINAL DESTINATION film.
While the title of the last entry in the series...THE FINAL DESTINATION...kinda/sorta implied the franchise had actually reached its final destination, the movie pulled down north of $180 million globally - thus more death -vs- beautiful young people hilarity quickly became assured.
