Ratner Talks BEVERLY HILLS COP 4 Rating & Timeframe!! But How Many $$$s Are Needed To Drag Eddie Back??

Merrick here...

Early last month, Brett Ratner did an interview with MTV regarding BEVERLY HILLS COP 4.

A particular quote in the interview lead many to the logical conclusion that the new BHC project would have a considerably softer tone/rating than its predecessors.

When asked what is biggest challenge would be, Ratner seemed to indicate that his new film would be geared towards a very PG audience.

Script Girl is talking about this week's script deals - and isn't always happy about em.

Hey folks, Harry here - back in Austin... going through detox, damn - Boston is a sea of booze and I barely came up for air. Great wedding though, seriously. Anyway - came back to the lovely Script Girl's report - and boy... she doesn't play nice with Sommers. Is it personal?

TIFF: El Giante on the Rufus Sewell thriller VINYAN!!!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with another review from the great white north. This time we have the thriller VINYAN starring Rufus Sewell. I remember catching wind of this via Todd's International Eye Candy Column and the review that Giante wrote actually gets me excited to see it. I kinda like those reviews that throw down the gauntlet. You're either going to buy into the movie and love it or you'll hate it. Can't wait to see what side I fall on. Enjoy the review!

Hello from the north Quint,

TIFF: Art Snob chimes in on Guy Ritchie's ROCKNROLLA, Ed Harris' APPALOOSA and French-Canadian flick IT'S NOT ME, I SWEAR!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with another report out of Toronto, this time from Art Snob who has a look at three flicks, including Guy Ritchie's ROCKNROLLA and Ed Harris' western APPALOOSA, which I'm very much looking forward to. Especially after reading Art Snob's ROCKNROLLA review! And even though he doesn't give a full recommendation for APPALOOSA, it sounds like the kind of flick that's right up my alley.

Here's the first set of reviews from Art Snob!!!

Quint has seen Bill Maher and Larry Charles' RELIGULOUS!!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I’m organizing another trip out to LA at the moment… got some interesting things to hit up, some more BOLT coverage and I’m hitting the Saturday, September 13th performance of THE FLY OPERA, directed by David Cronenberg with music and lyrics by Howard Shore… It’s gonna be awesome! At least it better be for the price I’m paying for tickets.

TIFF: Princess Buttercup digs on DETROIT METAL CITY!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here to introduce Princess Buttercup once again, this time here with her thoughts on DETROIT METAL CITY, based on the popular Manga. Her review is definitely positive, but not as enthusiastic as Anton's. Gene Simmons sounds like he makes this movie with his appearance. Fun is all I ask for in a movie like this. Here's the Princess.

Yet another Toronto FF goer loves up on JCVD!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with another glowing JCVD review. This movie better be as good as everyone's saying it is or I'll start training right now, shed 100 pounds and learn how to Blood Sport fight and JCVD up all these reviewers with my glued-on glass shard gloves...

Hey, this is Captain here. I sent in the "The semi-negative HOSTEL review" from TIFF '05 and I had the pleasure of catching JCVD late Thursday night. Anyways, just thought I'd throw my hat in the ring here. Hope you have room for another review. Enjoy!

TIFF: Anton Sirius on the 'sublime and ridiculous' DETROIT METAL CITY and Garin Nugroho's UNDER THE TREE!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with the newest from Anton out of Toronto. I've heard really good things about DETROIT METAL CITY and have another positive review which just came in that will be posted very soon. Sounds my kind of fucked up and bizarre. This is my first time hearing about UNDER THE TREE, though, but it sounds like a pleasant surprise. Thanks for putting it on the radar, Anton! Here's his thoughts!

Two Readers Cough Up Their Thoughts On CHOKE!

Beaks here...

Clark Gregg's adaptation of Chuck Palahniuk's CHOKE premiered at the Sundance Film Festival back in January to decidedly mixed reactions, but the presence of Sam Rockwell is enough to draw my interest (even though I've been through with Palahniuk's one-note nihilism for years). Let's see what reader "JediMoonShyne" thought of this pitch-black comedy.

Telluride Reviews! SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE! THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE WEIRD! GOMORRAH!

Beaks here...

I've been hearing that this year's Telluride Film Festival was a huge disappointment, but that's generally coming from folks who expected it to be a cavalcade of early fall prestige pics from the dependents (i.e. Sony Pictures Classics, Focus Features, Paramount Vantage and Fox Searchlight). Looking over the lineup, it seems to me that Telluride simply went back to basics, screening a slate of truly independent movies that actually need critical support. Good for them.

FrightFest Reviews Of I KNOW HOW MANY RUNS YOU SCORED LAST SUMMER And TOKYO GORE POLICE!

Beaks here...

We've had a wide variety of reactions from this year's FrightFest (including some terrific write-ups courtesy of "Major Calm"), but it appears that a couple of potentially worthwhile films fell through the cracks. So to complete our coverage, here's Rambozo with his take on I KNOW HOW MANY RUNS YOU SCORED LAST SUMMER (probably the first ever cricket-related slasher flick) and TOKYO GORE POLICE (a great title, if nothing else).

Moriarty Wants You To Take A SEX DRIVE With Him In Los Angeles! This Thursday Night! And Here’s How!

Hey, everyone. “Moriarty” here.

Clark Duke’s gonna be there. That may not mean anything to you yet, but it will after you see the film.

So’s Mr. Beaks.

And Sean Anders who directed the film... he’s gonna be there, too.

The question is, are YOU going to be there?

If you live in the Los Angeles area, you’re not easily offended, and you have been known to laugh on occasion, then I’ve got a sweet-ass deal for you. You are invited to see SEX DRIVE, this Thursday night, September the 11th, and it’s free.

TIFF: El Chivo on Richard Linklater's ME & ORSON WELLES, Guy Ritchie's ROCKNROLLA, Ricky Gervais' GHOST TOWN and THREE MONKEYS!!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with El Chivo's latest batch from Toronto! The new Linklater movie, ME & ORSON WELLES in particular sounds like a stand-out and even though Ritchie's ROCKNROLLA appears to be same old Guy Ritchie... well, I like old Guy Ritchie. And if Ghost Town has enough good Ricky Gervais moments to lift it out of big studio comedy mediocrity, then I'll be very happy. Here's El Chivo!

Moriarty’s Documentary Catch-Up! MAN ON WIRE! AMERICAN TEEN! I.O.U.S.A.! Which Is One Of The Year’s Best Films?!

Hey, everyone. “Moriarty” here.

It’s been a rough summer for documentaries at the box-office, but a few films have managed to break through and at least create a bit of buzz. It may not have translated into giant DARK KNIGHT style business, but at least they’ve made some impression. And in one case, I’d say one of the very best films of the year deserves more attention than it’s gotten so far, and I hope the film finds a second wind as it continues to roll out in theaters around the country.
