Our Geek on an epic Hollywood quest discovers life in Tinseltown can be dull once The Crystal Ship has drydocked

Father Geek here. Well, old Scrubbing Bubble has settled in out in Hollywoodland, and guess what. He's found that like Everywhere USA, life gets to be pretty dull once the new of the daily grind wears off. Yes folks, a few weeks into his West Coast odyssey our Geek hero has discovered... not alot of excitement in his day to day routine. Oh, the Horror! The cries of the sirens have faded, the clashing rocks have stilled, and our Hero awakes on the beach of a strange and distant land only to discover... no great new truth, no long lost love, no earth shattering career... just reality, a slap in the face, a 6am wakeup call, and yes... a little hope... a golden apple just out of reach, for the time being...

The Crystal Ship

Episode Four

Greetings, kids.

This is going to be a bitch of a column to write.

Some really cool stuff has happened and I can't say shit about it. I'm dying here. My fingers are so ready to just spill it all.

There have been a few meetings, scripts have exchanged hands, etc. Very big things may, or may not, be in the works.

And unless something happens, I've been instructed not to discuss it on the site.

DAMNIT!!!

But there's other things we can talk about, I guess.

The Nibblebox meeting went well.

We're going in next week sometime to pitch a dozen ideas or so. They'll choose one or two and we'll get to write and direct ten four minute episodes of a series for the web. It could be either live action or anime. We've got a lot of ideas cooking and some of them are pretty funny I think.

I'll keep you updated.

So what's been going on?

Piet and I are still at the hostile. We're wrapping up work on DIABLO. After that I'm not sure what we'll be doing. Hopefully this Nibblebox thing. If not then its back to the drawing board to find more PA work.

We've also been looking at apartments. I like the hostile though. So many different kinds of people. We're the only Americans. So there's a lot of exposure to different cultures, etc and it makes for interesting stuff to write about someday soon.

Saw THE PLEDGE with Nicholson and Benecio Del Toro. Great movie. Really just fantastic.

What was up with the Golden Globes?

I was happy with the Almost Famous wins, but Gladiator?

I liked GLADIATOR, don't get me wrong, but c'mon. Where the fuck was REQUIEM FOR A DREAM? Where was TRAFFIC?

And are these people on drugs? Why the hell didn't Ellen Burstyn win for Requiem? Of course, we're also talking about the Foreign Press that nominated Sandra Bullock for MISS CONGENIALITY. No offense to Sandy, but Miss Congeniality?

So I'm a sucker for awards shows. I love watching all the stars head down the red carpet and stop to talk to Joan Rivers. I don't particularly like Joan Rivers. I'm actually pretty sure that no one really likes Joan Rivers. But its cool to see how all the celebs react to her.

Other than that, I'm working on the new script. I'm about thirty pages in. I would be further along but I scrapped ten pages or so that just were not working.

They weren't bad. Screenwriters out there, tell me if you know what I'm talking about. Your working on a script, your going so fast that the pages are writing themselves, you look back at what you've done and its not shit, its just not what you set out to write. Its like you lost sight of what you were trying to do and just decided to do something else. That's what happened. So I deleted some pages, went back and I'm giving it another try.

This week's column is boring so far. I apologize. I could write a gander of a column, but I think it would ruin some things that are cooking. But I give you my word. As soon as something is concrete, I'll spill my guts everywhere for my AICN fam.

Not much else to say. This gag I'm wearing has really put a stint in my writing momentum for the column.

Hopefully next week there will be more to say.

Thanks for understanding.

Me
