What’s it called?

Teleplay is credited to “Sleeper Cell” vet Alexander Woo, who also wrote “True Blood’s” season-one finale.

What says HBO?
“Season Two Premiere. A shocking murder outside Merlotte's has Bon Temps reeling. Meanwhile, Sookie's relationship with Bill is tested when she learns of his siring of Jessica, and of his involvement in her uncle's death. Sam recalls a shape-shifting encounter he had with Maryann as a 17-year-old. Jason gets a sudden windfall that allows him to pay for a leadership retreat with the Fellowship of the Sun. Was that gay cook Lafayette the murderee outside Merlotte’s?
He was not. The murderee’s true identity is revealed in spoiler-cloaking invisotext. It’s the exorcist who purged Tara’s mom of her demons.

Is Bill one of the adversaries sharing the mysterious dungeon?
No.

What else is HBO not telling us?
Sookie’s pal Tara wants to keep her connection to the deceased secret.

The big news?
Anna Paquin gets far more naked in this episode than in any prior installment.

What’s good?
The dungeon. Freshly minted vampire Jessica’s primer on Bill’s lifestyle. Michelle Forbes, still dishy nearly two decades after first essaying Ro Laren. The well-lit Paquin nakedness. The fact that season two's first four episodes left me craving more.

What’s not so good?
Bon Temps keeps reminding me of Sunnydale, and how much more fun Sunnydale was; “Buffy’s” plotting and dialogue were sharper and more graceful. And “True Blood” still isn’t as enjoyable as "American Beauty" or “Six Feet Under,” which begs the question: Why isn’t Alan Ball writing these episodes?

How does it end, spoiler-boy?
“Die, you dead fucker!!”
