Bradley Whitford and Richard Jenkins now have some victims for Whedon and Goddard's CABIN IN THE WOODS

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I'm not a big Joss Whedon fan... I know, sacrilege, right? Not my thing, but I try not to begrudge his fanbase their enjoyment... even when they make it really hard for me by holding his work up as untouchable brilliance.

That said, I'm very curious about this movie, CABIN IN THE WOODS which Joss Whedon has co-written with Drew Goddard, who will direct. I think Whedon's already putting himself up on a pedestal by saying this is the horror movie to end all horror movies, which honestly puts anyone who isn't a Browncoat automatically in the position of going, "Oh, yeah? We'll see about that."

Now, I've talked to people who have read the script whose reactions vary wildly. I know a true-blue horror fanatic who thought the script was stupid, saying it's just an updated version of SCREAM. I also talked to someone who thought it was amazing, that what Whedon meant wasn't that it's the best horror film ever, but that he throws every formula, creature and horror cornerstone into one flick.

I will probably read the script myself sometime in the near future out of sheer curiosity. If he can make me a believer, count me impressed.

News came out today via a press release from United Artists regarding to the studio casting up this flick. We already know Richard Jenkins (THE VISITOR) and Bradley Whitford (WEST WING) are the two leads (the aspect of the movie that has me even slightly interested), middle-aged guys who apparently unleash this hell on teenagers in a cabin... in the woods.

Now they've got a bulk of their teens. Forgive me if I don't recognize these names or faces, but you guys might know one or two of 'em. Kristen Connolly, Fran Kranz, Chris Hemsworth, Anna Hutchison and Jesse Williams. I IMDB'd them and they all look the type... young twenty-somethings... that would be on the receiving end of some horrible events. For most of them this film will be the first time I see what they bring as performers.

So, yeah. Count me cautiously optimistic, with a little "prove it" snobbery thrown in for good measure. You?
