Hey folks, Harry here with our old time Sundance contributor, Father Death, with a look at DEAD SNOW, a film I'm so happy that IFC picked up and that I can not wait to see for myself! Here's his review...

I took a break from college study and went to check out DEAD SNOW screening. I got in wait list line way early and was lucky to have gotten number 2 wait list ticket. This movie was a hot ticket thanks to word of mouth, and it definitely met the expectation and hype.

DEAD SNOW is a re-invention of the zombie horror genre that reanimates the "tired" zombie genre. To say anymore about the movie would be spoiling the story, which is part of the fun.

Think Resident Evil meets The Thing crossed with Night of the Living Dead and 70's Nazi exploitation movies. The movie is so gory with gallons of blood and ripped organs I don't think it will garner an R rating without heavy cuts.

IFC made a wise investment. I hope they leave the original Norwegian language with English subtitles intact and the whole movie uncut, unlike what happened to HAUTE TENSION theatrical release under Lion's Gates.

DEAD SNOW is sure to be a big hit when it hits the theatres sometime this year. It may be the only decent horror movie to be released in North American theatres this year amid crappy American horror movies.

I cannot recommend the movie highly enough! Black comedy, rad plot (even if we've seen it before, but Nazi zombies? Cool!) and gore effects DEAD SNOW gives it a genuine "grindhouse" feel. I'm sure Quentin, Eli and company will enjoy this a lot.

Tommy Wirkola is a talent to watch out for, because, while the film may border on excess that would make casual moviegoers feel ill (particularly the long shot of a graphic self-surgery involving fishing hook -- that gave the audience audible icky groan), he made a competent North European horror film with unusually high production values, great plot, viscerally nauseating gore and scarily realistic Nazi Zombie F/X effects.

TREEVENGE, a 17-minute horror-comedy short preceding the movie, is worth watching, if only for its hilarity in "disturbing horror" satire like SILENT NIGHT, DEADLY NIGHT. Well-done, sick gore effects towards the ending. I think the short should come with DEAD SNOW when IFC releases it in theatre to give it a fresh grindhouse effect for the hardened horror fans.

I'd give it a B-

Go see DEAD SNOW if you can "stomach" it. Adieu!
