Christopher McQuarrie's THE WAY OF THE GUN
Due to the incredible lack of vision from studios around Hollywood, Christopher McQuarrie shall not be making his debut directing gig with the epic script and story of ALEXANDER THE GREAT. Oh no. That'd be like... Hollywood choosing to be bold, and making a decision without a precedent from the last 14 years to guide them. Instead, that project is dead till after Ridley Scott's GLADIATOR comes out and kicks our collective asses. Then... well then perhaps that project will move.
But until then, what is Christopher McQuarrie gonna do? We know he's been doing some polishing on the X-MEN script. And from the way I've heard it, he's been doing a lot of that. However, he's itching to direct.
Word has it that it's a script entitled THE WAY OF THE GUN.
THE WAY OF THE GUN.
What a title. Man, conjures tough ass imagery all by itself. And when ya tell me that it's a crime script from the guy that wrote THE USUAL SUSPECTS... well... Hell's bells, I'm all over that. And you'd expect Hollywood to too... but you'd be wrong.
Instead it found a home over at Artisan. Artisan is the company that is doing a great job of bringing us the edgier films that we used to see coming in from Miramax... Somehow they beat everyone else in the Wood to THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT, and this summer it'll show.
But we ain't talking about THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT right now, we're talking about Christopher McQuarrie's THE WAY OF THE GUN. What do I know about it so far?
Well, thanks to an active pursuit... I've found that it will star Benicio Del Toro and Ryan Phillipe as Longbaugh and Parker... two hunted gunmen that end up kidnapping a surrogate mother of a rich Texas couple whilst they are making for the Mexico border.
But as is the case with McQuarrie, it ain't really that simple. I've also heard that James 'Sonny' Caan has been cast as Sarno, the bagman for the couple who's unborn child is held hostage by these two thuggish killers.
It's a low budget film, but ya know... It's high on my scale of 'PAY ATTENTION' projects. It begins shooting in and around Los Angeles around mid-July, so folks... keep your eyes open. We don't know the rest of the cast yet, or too much about the film... But I'm looking. I'll drop y'all a line as I hear more.
