Universal has informed me that ROLE MODELS is an R-rated comedy. I also received a very positive test screening review, but it was a little too light on detail for my liking. If I get something more substantial, I'll gladly run it. Sounds like the movie is coming together.

I don't know why ROLE MODELS had to be rewritten as a PG-13 (when I read it a year ago, as BIG BROTHERS, it was gunning for a hard-R), but anything directed by THE STATE alum David Wain is owed the benefit of the doubt. It also helps that Wain had a hand in reshaping the material (Rudd and Ken Marino also have writing credits at the moment), so maybe the material got a little smarter as it got stripped of f-bombs, nudity and rampant substance abuse. Comedy doesn't have to be dirty to be funny. Read your Cheever.

While the just-debuted trailer for ROLE MODELS (hosted by our pals at MTV Movies) is extremely cookie-cutter, there are some laughs here and there (took me a while to realize that "Ronnie" was one of "The Blacks" on the last season of CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM). Give it watch...

I know ROLE MODELS tested last week in L.A., but we received nary a review. Guess no news means Wain's made EL CID.
