Summit Entertainment has optioned Toby Wagstaff and Darren Howell's spec script ARENA.

The story revolves around a group of modern-day soldiers mysteriously transported from the thick of battle to a terrain-shifting landscape where they must fight the best warriors from different eras and histories in a gladiatorial fight to the death or be killed by the all-powerful operators of the "Arena."

The original STAR TREK series featured an episode called "Arena" in which Kirk fought the Gorn (one could even say terrain was an important part of that episode). There was also an episode called "The Savage Curtain", in which Kirk & Co. are tossed into an arranged battle with personages of historical significance (Abraham Lincoln, Genghis Khan, and some folks from TREK backstory/mythology). There are also shades of TREK's "The Gamesters of Triskelion" here as well.

And, of course, this also brings elements of TIME BANDITS here...the posse comprised of folks from different points in history.
