Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I saw the original German flick NIGHT OF THE LIVING DORKS at the very first FANTASTIC FEST here in Austin back in '05 (CLICK HERE TO READ MY ORIGINAL REVIEW!). I thought it was a whole lot of fun and I'm not surprised it got picked up for an American remake thingamajig.

Anchor Bay released the flick on DVD, although I wouldn't be surprised if you didn't know about it. The trailer they cut for it featured the English dub which took all the humor that worked in the film and made it butt-fuck ridiculous crappy. The DVD features the original German with subtitles, so hit it up on your Netflix.

Warner Independent is doing the remake and they just brought on an interesting director. STELLA and THE STATE fans will be happy to hear that Michael Showalter. The danger with this remake would be making it kind of an IDOL HANDS ripoff... The subject of a bunch of dorky guys who find themselves the living dead... well, they keep comparing it to REVENGE OF THE NERDS, but it's really more like TEEN WOLF type flick. Dorks become cool once they're rotting/furry/whathaveyou. I'm sure Showalter will bring enough to the table to give us an interesting twist on that sub-sub-genre. Thoughts?
