The Weinsteins take a trip to SHANGHAI with Gong Li, Cusack and Hafstrom
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. So, the Weinsteins want to make a period drama set in SHANGHAI. They have Gong Li (MIAMI VICE, 2046 and MEMOIRS OF A GEISHA) attached already as the main love interest for an American who is in Japanese occupied Shanghai in the months leading up to Pearl Harbor. John Cusack is in talks to play the American, who is investigating the death of one of his friends and stumbles upon a big secret.
Mikael Hafstrom is directing, having just worked with Cusack on 1408. They're wanting to begin production early 2008.
Sounds like a good team so far. Thoughts?
