Warners has nabbed the rights to Halcyon's relaunch/resurrection of the TERMINATOR franchise. It's slated to roll in early 2008, and is called TERMINATOR SALVATION: THE FUTURE BEGINS.

Wasn't the catch phrase for THE RIGHT STUFF (one of my all time most favorite films) "How the future began?"

While industry buzz has "Charlie's Angels" director McG as the odds-on favorite for the assignment, the producers said no final decision had yet been made.

...says THIS ARTICLE IN VARIETY, which goes on to indicate:

"This is set in the future, in a full-scale war between Skynet and humankind," Anderson told Daily Variety.

In the quote above, "Anderson" refers to Derek Anderson, one of the film's producers.

Apparently, room is being left for some sort of brief appearance by Arnold, although the issue is inconclusive at this time. No matter what happens, look for another Terminator (should this be plural?) to be the big bad(s?).

As previously reported, the film has been scripted by the TERMINATOR 3 writers John Brancato and Michael Ferris. T3 seems to be the source of considerable contention among fans; I actually liked the film to some degree....and give it credit for one helluva ballsy ending.

Strangely, I don't have as much antagonism for this project as I feel I should. Does that make me a bad Geek?
