Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I happen to really dig the cheesy '80s slasher STEPFATHER films, mostly for the charisma and pure creepy factor from pre-Locke Terry O'Quinn. In fact, I saw the original STEPFATHER film again recently at the Alamo Drafthouse Downtown, before they shut their doors, and the movie holds up surprisingly well. Although, I forgot about the gratuitous cock-shot at the beginning... Sorry, Terry, but I didn't need to see that side of you.

The only thing I really remember about the sequel is that Jonathan Brandis was in it, that crazy chick with the weird eyes (Meg Foster from THEY LIVE and MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE) was in it and that even as a young kid I didn't buy that the Stepfather survived the end of the first movie.

So, the news is that the flick is about to be remade at Screengems. Nelson McCormick is going to helm from a Joe Cardone script. McCormick just wrapped on another horror remake, PROM NIGHT. The proof will be in the pudding when that comes out. PROM NIGHT was never my favorite of the period.

From the sounds of things, it looks like this will be more of a remake of Part 2, about a boy who thinks his adoptive father might be a serial killer.

I don't know. I think stuff like STEPFATHER is more suited for a remake than iconic classics, but it's all in who they get to play the Stepfather and how realistic they keep it. O'Quinn was fantastic... creepy, scary... but there was something really real about him that made it creepy. I hope whomever they get has those same qualities and they don't HITCHER this movie up. Thoughts?
