Oliver Stone is ramping up to direct his fourth Viet Nam themed movie.

This time it's PINKVILLE starring Bruce Willis and Channing Tatum. It's about the My Lai Massacre, in which hundreds of unarmed Vietnamese civilians (many elderly and children) were savaged and slaughtered by American forces.

As details of the event slowly filtered out, global outrage ensued and court martials (courts martial?) were undertaken. There are many horrifying images on-line if you've interest in further research.

Willis will play Army Gen. William R. Peers, who supervised the investigation into the massacre by U.S. soldiers of as many as 500 My Lai villagers, most of them unarmed women, children and elderly.

Tatum will play Hugh Thompson, a helicopter pilot who, upon realizing what was happening below, put a stop to the killing by placing his craft between gunmen and the few villagers who were left, and telling his two shipmates to fire on the soldiers if they shot any more people. They airlifted the survivors and reported the carnage to superiors.

I'm not always a huge fan of Stone's work, but I think movies like this are critically important.

There's a great deal of simplification and glorification in how we view war; it's imperative to remember things like this happened...might happen...and perhaps still do. Such realities aren't comfortable, but it's the truth.
