AICN Games: Kaffy Checks Out NANCY DREW: THE WHITE WOLF OF ICICLE CREEK!! Hooray Icicles!!

Greetings humans, Monki here with a chilly new review for you. Kaffy got her paws onto the new Nancy Drew title recently released and she has a few words about it. Enjoy!

Greetings one and all, Kaffy here. If you thought you
would get a break from the chick games this week...guess again. This week it's the 16th installment of the Nancy Drew games series. Nancy Drew: The White Wolf of Icicle Creek for the PC, rated E. This is one for the younger crowd, but it's a good one.

Good news for the girls or your nephew who enjoys show tunes. You get to play as Nancy Drew in this game. You can have all the sleuthing fun that Nancy would; like questioning suspects, making notes and talking to that dreamy Ned Nickerson. Oh, and you have to do the laundry, clean and cook...did I say chick game?

Basically, Nancy goes undercover as a maid/cook at the Icicle Creek lodge in the Canadian Rockies to investigate strange accidents and a mysterious wolf which appears before each incident but then mysteriously disappears when the police arrive. The game is wholesome enough, but Nancy can get killed in several horrific ways like smothered in an avalanche or a slow death from hypothermia. Oh the wonders of childhood.

The game can be played at two levels, junior detective and senior detective. The junior level gives more help as far as hints, and the puzzles are easier. There are several mini games/puzzles within the context of the story, and they are all fun, and I would guess challenging for the tykes.

This game is reminiscent of the 7th guest/11th hour franchise. Keep in mind it's not that same level, but you are basically searching for clues and doing puzzles. The graphics for the backgrounds are fairly photorealistic, but the characters are rubber mouthed, and floaty, (I know you hate it when I get technical). Also, you navigate through the game much like the 7th guest. You click in the direction you want to go and then wait while the computer advances to the next scene. I don't think kids will be bothered by the graphics in any way.

I admire Her Interactive for their dedication to women in the gaming industry. They claim it's a game made for women by women, and they've done a fine job. I give this my kiddy, (7 - 13 year olds) stamp of approval.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go put a flowery hat on my pony friend.

7th Guest? 11th Hour? I remember 11th Hour scared the crap out of me when I was a kid. Ah well.

We'll be reviewing all kinds of games here on AICN Games. Soon I've got a review coming in for Dirt, so keep an eye on that. Also, expect to hear me bitching about Manhunt 2 pretty soon in my next wrap-up and contest winners from the Pair-Up contest are almost decided. Thanks again Kaffy for the review.

Until next time, back up the tree I go.

-Monki
