The Weinsteins get behind Woody Allens latest, CASSANDRA'S DREAM!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. It took me a while to get into Woody Allen's films, but I got there. The only flick of his liked growing up was SLEEPER because of the goofball sci-fi elements. It wasn't until my late teens and early 20s that I gave him another chance and discovered some absolutely beautiful and wonderful movies. ANNIE HALL, MANHATTAN and, my favorite, THE PURPLE ROSE OF CAIRO.
I've even liked his recent efforts. MATCH POINT was great, SCOOP was goofy and fun... and I'm one of the only people that liked HOLLYWOOD ENDINGS. Sure, it's a forgettable movie, but I enjoyed myself when watching it.
So, any news that Allen's got distribution for his new movie is good news to me, especially when it has a good a cast as CASANDRA'S DREAM does.
The Weinsteins picked up distribution rights (North America, Australia and NZ) to the flick, starring Ewan McGregor, Colin Ferrell and one of my favorite working character actors Tom Wilkinson.
The flick is set in Allen's new muse, London, and revolves around two brothers who are on a twisting road that is destined for tragedy. Legendary cinematographer, Vilmos Zsigmond, shot the flick. No word on release date, but I'm sure it'll hit this fall during the Awards rush. Thoughts?
