Capone Appraises THE SHIELD 6.7 After All!!
I am – Hercules!!
AICN’s main man in the Midwest, “Capone,” said he wouldn’t review “The Shield” past 6.6. He lied to you, America!! He’s seen all the ‘sodes through the end of the season and will review all! Beware, as always, uninvisotexted spoilers!
Episode 6.7
Hey everyone. Capone in Chicago. Well, I resisted all temptations (many of which were dangled in front of me by the readership) to go and download or simply watch the remaining four episodes of "The Shield" Season 6. I've got a big-ass TV at home, and I want to watch my "Shield" episodes big and loud. And then, with just days to go before Episode 7 was set to air on FX (the first episode of this season I was not able to preview for you guys), I got a nice anonymous package with episodes 7-10 in the mail, and I watched all four in one marathon sitting. I cannot overemphasize that this season of "The Shield" absolutely blows your balls through the bottom of your seat with tension, drama, and some of the finest writing on television. If you don't agree with that statement, then get the hell out of my life! Oh, um, sorry sorry sorry, it's just that watching Vic Mackey and what remains of his team in action gets my blood boiling. And so, with as few spoilers as possible (but sometimes I can't resist), here's episode 6.7, entitled "Exiled."
After taking Vic's threat to kill him if they ever meet again seriously, Shane takes stock in every illegal thing that he, Vic, and the Strike Team have ever done and begins hand writing out what amounts to a massive multi-page confession. Each page has a heading like "Terry Crowley" or "Armenian Money Train." Gulp.
Soon after Vic tells Ronnie what Shane did to Lem, the two of them meet with undercover ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) Agent Hernan (Clifton Collins Jr.), who fears that his six months of work moving up the Salvadoran gang leadership may be going down the drain because of a power shift at his agency's head office. He's looking for Vic to protect him and help him move up the power ladder of the crime organization to find out who is responsible for the San Marco massacre. Speaking of which, the Mexicans retaliate for those murders by shooting into a Salvadoran street fair.
Shane's wife Mara goes to the Barn with baby in tow to find Vic and ask him where Shane has gone to for 24 hours. She hints that she knows everything Shane has done and that there are no secrets between them. When Shane does finally return home, he and Mara fight about her going to Mackey. He lets her know that he has put in for a transfer back to his old job in Vice, where he can shake down criminals for protection money and store same cash away for his family, with the hopes of leaving the force after a year or so and moving out of the city.
Shortly after the chief of police makes veiled threats to Claudette about shutting down the Barn, she responds by ordering massive sweeps of Latino neighborhood to pick up any gang members with outstanding warrants. Picked up during the gang sweep as arranged, Hernan lays out the details of the Salvadoran situation with the Mexican Biz Lat gang. Also at the Barn, Vic finds out about Shane's transfer request from Claudette. When Vic discovers that Shane has been trying to dig up Vic's Mexican contacts, he suspects Shane is covering his bases should he need to leave the country. Shortly after he is released, Hernan goes missing.
Meanwhile, Dutch and Billings investigate the whereabouts of the Mexican government official Romero (whose arm was found in the San Marco crime scene). They assume his dead body will turn up at some point, and are clearly surprised when they find him alive in a hotel with a suitcase filled with $230,000 in cash. He claims diplomatic immunity, but they take him in anyway.
Shane does some preliminary work aligning himself with the Armenian crime organization to earn some extra cash, while Vic brokers a deal with the Mexicans and Salvadorans to end the retaliatory killings.
Mara keeps an already-made meeting with Corrine to borrow some baby clothes, but she takes the opportunity to warn Corrine that Shane knows things and will use this knowledge against Vic is he isn't careful. Corrine has not clue what she's talking about, but she knows Vic, so she's not surprised.
By the end of the episode, Shane and Vic are face to face again. Shane tosses Vic a copy of his Confessions file and delivers a warning. For one of the few times in the series, Vic seems shaken.
