Some excerpts from Maureen Ryan’s new interview with “Galactica” showrunner Ron Moore and and producer David Eick in the Chicago Tribune:

But they do make clear that what happens to Starbuck points the way to a major shift in the show’s direction. “It’s a fundamental and permanent change in the makeup of the show’s cast and of the show itself and how the show operates and what the show is about. It’s a very dramatic change of direction,” Moore says.

Other tidbits:

* The third-season finale will be a cliffhanger "which they say will once again take the show in a shocking new direction."

* There will be a trial of Baltar.

* There will be standalone episodes about Tyrol's labor issues and Bill Adama's ex-wife.

* The producers confirm some of what we've heard about a possible "Galactica" straight-to-DVD movie that would be shot between seasons three and four, but say it will not be linked to the proposed "Caprica" spinoff. Eick says it could "return a very popular character."
