KUNG FU Movie Now On Track!! Director(s)!! Writer!! A Release Year!! We Need More Exclamation Points!!
|
Brothers Allen and Albert Hughes have done tons of commercials. But they may be better known by film geeks as the masterminds behind MENACE 2 SOCIETY, DEAD PRESIDENTS, and the FROM HELL adaptation.
And now... they're bringing us KUNG FU, through Warner Bros & Legendary Pictures (the same pairing that brought us SUPERMAN RETURNS and LADY IN THE WATER).
Cory Goodman is currently hammering out the script, with The Powers That Be eyeing a 2008 release. The Olympics will be in China that year -- a symmetry that will certainly not go unrecognized by marketing gurus.
While it would be natural to assume this movie will be set in the Old West like its TV progenitor, this is Hollywood & nothing is either logical or certain (hence dubious TV releaunches in a contemporary setting, like THIS). Something tells me the Hughes (and their audience) could have a lot of fun with the Old West...let's hope the concept remains grounded there.
Okay...now...who should be Caine? I'm still waiting for Chow Yun Fat to make a cool American movie...don't think he's found the right vehicle yet. Would he be too old, or too obvious, for this?
