The AICN gang and the Superbowl
Several of you geeks out there have written in wondering what we were doing during Superbowl? Well ,There's a long standing party (25 years) that we attend every year hosted by Austin watercolorist Walter Falk a friend of Father Geeks since 1965 when they were on the University of Texas Debate team together. This is no doubt one of the best events of its kind in the country. Friends that are assigned the role of BARON are responcible for certain aspects of the party which usually has 200 or more attendees. Father Geek was the Baron de Ribeye this year bringing a 16.5 pound ribeye, soaked for 24 hours in 6 bottles of Spaten, to smoke on the 15 foot pit for 8 hours. RORO of AICN was Baron de Pielsner supplying a keg of Celis and about 24 6packs of various brewpub beers. SISTER SATAN (the BARONESS Dannie)and her crew (including the lovely Lady Cierera) brought bottles of French Merlot and St.Emilion. Baron Bob de Cook (an Amer. International movie paper collector)brought 3 legs of lamb stuffed with custom sausage, Baron Sunshine de Bryan brought 2 25 pound chunks of lean Top Round with a heavy pepper crust, the Barons de Waterloo brought Kegs of Guiness and Harp, Baron Painter del Hunt supplied a whole feral pig, Baroness Mary had 3 turkeys, the darklord of the back pits offered up a dozen chickens and their inards,The Baron de Pots (the wizard of clay) supplied 600 pounds of Oysters flown in from New Orleans, the Baron de Czech Valley served 5 gal. of pickled Tongue and onion as well as 2 Qt.of hand ground Horseradish, The Earl of Leaded Glass brought 50 lbs of Crawfish and a Qt. of smuggled Anisette, The Earl of the Spainish coast had 30 lbs of Green Mussels, the Earl of the Greek isles hand wrapped 200 of those little grape leaf thingies, and of course there was Mi Lady del Pan and her bountiful loaves. The list goes on and on.
Like most of you we at AICN were looking for PREQUEL TRAILERS, but had to make due with WILD, WILD WEST (not very satisfing),THE MUMMY, AUSTIN POWERS, and that really nice MATRIX spot. There were cheers every time a good ad appeared. JOHNNY WAD and the rest of us really had to settle for great eats and drinks, dozens of beautiful free-thinking ladies, good conversation on literally every subject, and the jousting on the small screen. Who won? well FATHER GEEK here SEEMS TO REMEMBER some one saying Denver, but even though there were 8 tvs scattered around I can't tell you why. You see I didn't really watch the GAME, the charming Lady Jeanie captured my soul for the first 3 quarters, and then it really didn't matter very much. This party, as always, was really about Meat, brew, good people and their ideas.
