Herc Has Seen THE BEST REALITY SHOW EVER MADE!!I Beg You!! Please Watch Comedy Central's THE COMEDIANS OF COMEDY!!
“The Comedians of Comedy” is what “Last Comic Standing” should have been. Four world-class comedians – Patton Oswalt, Zack Galifianakis, Maria Bamford and Brian Posehn - forced to live in a tour bus and find out what happens when comedians continue to be funny even after they leave the stage.
That’s right. Comedians even funnier than the very funny Ralphie May and Dave Mordal. And no unambiguously shitty comics like Tess and Ant lurking anywhere about to suck things up. And no punk-ass bitch immunity challenges.
I love Maria (adorable in her squeaky and oft-repeated Comedy Central special), the truly gifted Zach (who had a bitchin’ – if tiny-lived - VH1 chat show), and Brian (of “Mr. Show” and latter-day “Just Shoot Me” fame), but have major hetero-gay love for Patton, a fellow atheist movie- and comic-geek, who I think maybe ranks way up there with Woody Allen, Steve Martin and Albert Brooks as one of the greatest white stand-up talents ever to take the public stage. Patton reeks of funny. He is a tiny chubby comedy god. Much like Buddha, but with more genius comedy.
A camera followed him around!
“The Comedians of Comedy” was somehow a movie when it screened at Austin’s South By Southwest Film Festival. When I read the Squinty Seaman Quint’s review of the movie, I knew I had to see it! Image my delight when I learned that Comedy Central was somehow making it available for free in the comfort and privacy of my own home on Friday nights!
I shook the Oswalt’s hand a week ago when I saw the first two episodes over at Hollywood’s fabulous CineScape, and he told me he would one day explain how the movie became a series. Because in the first episode he talks about “The Comedians of Comedy” like it’s a Comedy Central series.
This is easily my new favorite Friday-night show. “Battlestar Galactica”? What’s that? “Dinner For Five”? I didn’t catch the name!
11 p.m. Friday. Comedy Central.
