New From The HOMICIDE Guys: Fox
|
I am – Hercules!!
It’s a quasi-anthology featuring 12 different lead actors every week, from some of the same key creative talent behind “Homicide: Life on the Street,” including director-producer Barry Levinson and writer-producers Tom Fontana and James Yoshimura.
“crackling good … the two-episode, back-to-back launch … takes no prisoners in crafting a rivetingly intense and edgy piece of entertainment. And not only that, every hour brings us closure -- truncated deliberation, trial snippets and verdict, all sharply focused and self-contained. … a highly promising drama … ”
“ … smart but slightly claustrophobic, and not as suspenseful as it should be … The prosecutors and defense lawyers are so nondescript that, after watching the back-to-back premiere, it took awhile to realize they weren't the same people. In fact, Levinson alone stands out as the cranky judge, in part because he's the only regular who doesn't appear to have been plucked directly out of the Abercrombie & Fitch catalog. … the series is somewhat confining structurally, blunting the drama … neither of the first two episodes … is clever enough to deliver much of a jolt.”
