Update On THE SPIRIT, Mulcahy, HIGHLANDER Sequel, and Dimension!!

Hey, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab.

I'm going to call shenanigans on the person who sent in our report the other day about Russell Mulcahy allegedly signing on to direct an adaptation of Will Eisner's THE SPIRIT for Dimension Films.

According to what I've heard, Michael Uslan (one of the producers of the 1989 BATMAN) currently owns the rights to THE SPIRIT, and he's being very demanding in setting it up, wanting to preserve the integrity of the thing.

Russell Mulcahy is not signing any three-picture deal with Dimension, although he might be signing on for HIGHLANDER: THE SOURCE if things work out.

I'm glad Michael Uslan seems to be taking his time, and I'm glad it's not Mulcahy doing THE SPIRIT. I can't help but wonder what it would have been like if Brad Bird had gotten his version of the project off the ground a fistful of years ago. I like Bird's sensibilities a hell of a lot, and I imagine he would have paid beautiful homage to the soul of Eisner's work.

We'll keep you posted if more details appear, but for now, mark this one down as "still just a dream."

"Moriarty" out.
