UPDATE: BLADE 2 Set Report Video From E! & UK

Published at:  Aug 22, 2001 12:53:49 AM CDT

SPOILER ALERT !!

Greetings, bloodsuckers! HREF=mailto:robogeek@robogeek.com>ROBOGEEK here with some broadband booty for ya.

Hot on the heels of Moriarty's report that New Line is already developing BLADE 3 largely based on the strength of [disclaimer: my friend] Guillermo del Toro's BLADE 2 rough cut, we have a sneak peek at the sequel thanks to the fine folks at E.

On Monday's edition of E! News Daily (which Robo watches religiously - at least when Jules and Steve are on), there was a short behind-the-scenes segment shot earlier this summer on the Prague set of BLADE 2, with one-on-one tidbits from Wesley Snipes, Leonor Varela and Kris Kristofferson (who explains Whistler's return... sort of).

Anyway, after hoping in vain that E! Online would post the segment (dream on), I decided to brave a cease-and-desist and post it myself, armed with my trusty TiVo and PowerBook.

The clip is in QuickTime, clocks in at 1:21, and is available in two sizes/resolutions. FYI, in the interest of time/size, I made two minor edits totaling nine seconds, eliminating some extraneous material (i.e. clips of the first film).

BLADE 2 is tentatively slated to open March 22, 2002.

Oh, and watch E! News Daily weekdays at 6:30pm EST/PST. Yeah. ;-)

UPDATE:

Astute reader Badlydrawn informs us that Carlton's "Movie Nights" show in the UK has posted their nearly four-and-a-half minute behind-the-scenes piece on BLADE 2, which focuses primarily on the weapons and make-up. Unfortunately, it's in crappy RealPlayer format, but still worth checking out by clicking here.

Enjoy,

- Robogeek

P.S.: BTW, I know this has nothing to do with BLADE, but... if you've never seen ABC's "The Job," check out tonight's repeat of the "Bathroom" episode at 9:30pm EST/PST.

    Whistler's Return Sounds Like A Cop-Out To Me. . .

    by cowblaster

I really hate the idea of bringing back a character that was killed-off in the last movie solely to appease both the star's career, and the fanbase (i.e. Sean Connery's return in Highlander 2). Those never turn out good.

    by robogeek.com

Ah, but Cowblaster... if you'll recall, we never actually saw Whistler die in the first film, now did we? ;-)

Screw Blade! Remember Stiles from Teen Wolf???

    by lil_timmy

New Line should buy the rights to the Teen Wolf franchise and put the money from Blade 3 into a movie about Stiles starring the orginal Jerry Levine. He could also direct, as he did direct several episodes of the hit Ben Savage sitcom "Boy Meets World"

    He comes back..

    by tmservo

They say he was captured by vampires and kept alive because they have "a purpose for him" so, he's not necessarily on the right side.. that would fit very well with what happened to set up his demise in the first.

    waste of bandwidth

    by talkbacktornado

first: nice capture robogeek! technically a very good clip. contentwise it's a waste of bandwidth in my eyes. is this the new marketing strategy of new line? first some news of a third installment, then all these behind the scenes clips poppin up all over the net? not worth the download wit a 56k. but well, in the end their strategy works, they caught my attention :-) next point: whistler's return is a bummer, we all heard the shot of the gun after Blade left him alone. what's their explanation for this? Ah, I know: because he couldn't walk quite good after the incident, he shot his first rat to get some blood. *sigh* tt out (tt would like to shoot the guy who has sacked Michael deLuca ...)

    Anyone remember the first film???

    by lelon

The chick found a CURE to vampirism. This means two things. 1.) If Blade had let whistler turn into a vampire, he could have just applied the cure. So maybe whistler was already turning into a vampire and blade's gunshot didn't do whistler in because of his vampire healing factor. (presumibly, at the time blade shot him, he didn't know the chick had a cure) It actually makes a lot more sense then him dying. 2.) If he has a cure to full on vampirism (as the chick claims to Stephen Dworf, although its a little more hazzy if her cure can actually cure vampirism after its fully taken over) then having blade continue to kill vampires would be pretty stupid (since most vampires he kills are turned). Maybe thats why in this movie he fights something "far worse" and has to enlist the help of vampires. Any thoughts/interpretations of the "cure" in the first film?

    It rocked you panzies

    by slapa-ho

First of all, Who ate my waffles? Second, Stop being so judgemental of whistlers return. You fanboyz probably loved how "the kiss" in the matrix came out too? dont you? Stop being so silly and focusing on technicalities. Remember the whole "its just a movie" quote. Well permanently brand it on your mug!!!

Actually, the FIRST film had the cop-out...

    by mrgrimm

It happened right in between the opening credits and...yeah...the closing credits. Here's hoping BLAND 2 is a little...no, A LOT better... I'd settle for semi-watchable.

    "My friend"

    by insane tiki

Was that really necessary? Anywhoo... Blade was a great movie, and Blade 2 has definite promise. However, it is a sequel, and they're already messing with what happened in the original, so I'll with hold judgement until either a trailer is released, or *GASP* I actually see the movie next year.
