Awesome ALI Trailer Available In Quicktime Now!!

Published at:  Aug 19, 2001 8:01:41 PM CDT

Hey, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab.

"I'm only 22 years old... I ain't got a mark on my face... I MUST BE THE GREATEST!!!"

I have been a vocal critic of this project in the past, mainly when Sonnenfeld was still attached, and I wasn't fond of some of the script drafts. I'm going to shut my damn fool mouth, though, after seeing this trailer several times. Will Smith gives me chills as Ali, even in these brief glimpses, and I wish him well. I hope he and Michael Mann have pulled it off. I hope they've made a worthy film biography of one of the great public figures of the 20th Century. I want to believe. I want to be blown away by this film. Right now, this brief glimpse is enough for me to coast on between now and December. God, I hope this is the movie. I pray.

GET THE TRAILER IN QUICKTIME HERE!!!

Thanks to Apple.com for posting the trailer in glorious Quicktime goodness, finally.

"Moriarty" out.

I saw that trailer a few weeks ago (in quicktime) is there a new trailer out (or coming out soon)? I'm pretty much sold on any Mann picture period.

    ALI got too much baggage..

    by holoholojoe

we just saw AMERICAN SWEETHEART yesterday..(didn't know JC is THAT Tall and JR is so short, and CZJ looked old, in fact, everyone looked old in that movie except BC, cause he's already old)

anyway, ALI was a surprise trailer for that movie as well as a new one from Mr. Hannibel himself.

As soon as i saw Fresh prince on the screen, i was NOT interested. he's too big of a star and no matter how much he tries to be like ALI, his persona came thru in the performance. About the only reason this movie is worth watching for is all the personal moments that ALI went thru that i hope get depicted in this movie. i don't hold out much hope for a great movie but i know it will do BUKU bucks at the BO.

and he aint that buff in that movie as was stated on this site..

    Looks good!

The people criticizing this trailer are people are people who never like anything and criticize things just to make themselves look unique and intelligent. The trailer is great. Is Will 100% Muhummad Ali, no, but no biopic ever is! Hopkins looked nothing like Nixon. Will looks like he is doing a fine damn job. The looks no perfect, but he defiently sounds like the man. I have a DVD of Ali's greatest fights that have interviews after his big bouts. Will does sound like the man. All you people talking shit will eat crow when Will wins an oscar!

I have a funny feeling this will be the GREATEST movie of the year, and a Oscar nomination for Mr Smith. Everyone will be waiting for Lord of the Rings, and this will just pull the rug from under them. But as everybody here knows, if MEMENTO is not nominated for Best Film then the OSCARS mean shite and always will do from now on. I am very looking forward to seeing this film about the GREATEST personality in the world of Boxing (Not the greatest Boxer of all time, as this is Sugar Ray Robinson) and one of the great Individuals from the 20th Century. How much does anyone want to bet me here that Will Smith will pull this off and put his shamefull Wicky Wicky Wild Wild West in the past. Oscar nomination for sure.

    He does SOUND like him!!

    by triplej

THis is one of the few places where I've read of people criticizing the trailer! Fine, don't see it. You'll just miss out on the best movie of the year. I guarentee oscar nominations for picture, director, and best actor. I think the people who don't like the trailer, never have liked Will Smith. They don't allow themselves to see past his fresh prince persona.

    by nekko

All I can say is, thank God you don't work in development at some production company. You have no vision, my friend. You dissed this movie all fucking year, and now listen to you. Creamin' your pants. Who should ever listen to you now? And you want to be a screenwriter????

    Will Smith

    by redd

I think Will's voice in the trailer sounds a little like Ali, but not much. Still, I'm looking forward to this movie. It looks like Michael Mann got the period look and feel right. Looks like he's going back to Louisville (my hometown)to film again. It would have been cool if they had gotten Ving Rhames to reprise his role as Don King; but Mykelti Williamson is a pretty good actor.
I'm interested in seeing Mario Van Peebles as Malcolm X. He looks more like Malcolm than Denzel, to me anyway.

    Fresh Prince as Ali

    by miss lavendar

I felt it was Smith 'playing' Ali. I'll go see it and I'm also hoping that he pulls it off. Would be great.

What do you guys think of Jada in the movie as his wife?

Honestly? I felt the way you did about Will and his "playing" Ali but have not seen enough to make a definitive statement. As far as Jada goes? We'll see (I do not recall have ever seeing her in anything). I am not normally so ambivalent but this movie has the potential to demonstrate the capabilities of Will Smith and, while I have my doubts, I want him to succeed. In recent years (10 or so) I have not watched a lot of TV so I have only seen a few Fresh Prince reruns but recall being very impressed with Will's presence. I have seen him in Enemy of the State, Men In Black, and, of course, Independence Day. In most of the scenes I felt he was still just good ole Will. A charming, suave Will that I enjoyed watching and look forward to seeing again is not necessarily "Ali". I cannot imagine the stress that someone must undergo in an attempt to portray an icon such as MA. I wish him and Will the best and hope to see WS at least garner an Oscar nomination, if his performance warrants this honor. I do have a very strong cynical streak and personally still think, as I did initially, that Jada was cast because her husband wanted her there. I have no problem with that at all, as long as she does her job well. I did see WWW but do not, despite Will's charm, consider that as watching a movie but as undergoing torture. Good luck in all, Will.____A Pensive Bee
