JASON X Not Going Straight To Video!!

Published at:  Aug 17, 2001 3:04:56 PM CDT

Hey, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab.

Coolness. Maximum f'ing coolness.

Ted from THE DIABOLICAL DOMINION just dropped me a line to let me know that JASON X is not going straight to video. In DwarfNose's rundown of the Hamburg Fantasy Filmfest yesterday, he said an announcement was made before the screening of JASON X that suggested we wouldn't be seeing it in a theater. Well, I saw it in a theater, and it played great. I was concerned, and I said as much in my intro. Here's what Ted has to say today:

FACT: JASON X WILL BE THEATRICAL

According to a post today at "Ain't It Cool News", a reader recently
attended the world premiere of New Line Cinema's upcoming slasher film,
"Jason X". In his incredibly positive review of the film, he claims that,
"Before seeing the movie, we were told that it would be a video premiere in
the US, which would be a crying shame." He later goes on to say that "at $14
million, the movie shows every penny on the big screen, and then some. All
in all, great, great, GREAT fun."

Sure, the praise is great to hear, but what about the folks at the festival
claiming that the film is going direct-to-video? Well, AICN's Moriarty
speculated that "It sounds like New Line is starting to tell people JASON X
will definitely be going straight to video now. I hope that's just a
misunderstanding, since this is actually an entertaining movie. Not a
classic, by any means... it is a FRIDAY THE 13TH sequel after all... but
worth a night at the theater with your friends."

After this speculation, various newsgroup and Talkback fans have gone into a
sudden outrage. Well, we're here to say never fear. Although the release
date of the film has jumped, slid, and now disappeared... The movie is still
coming out in theaters! Don't let the rumors fool ya.

And to back it up, we've mentioned today's news to "Jason X" director Jim
Isaac, who has (once more) stated the truth:

"New Line has NEVER even thought about going right to video... I can tell
you I have met with everyone over there and they feel Jason X is going to be
a hit for them next year and they want to open it right... So you can
spread the word that is not going right to video and there has never been
any talk of it going right to video."

Thank you, Jim. Everybody is still rooting for this movie, so the sooner New
Line decides to release it upon the masses, the better.

Thanks to AICN and Jim.

-Ted, THE DIABOLICAL DOMINION

It's always nice to be wrong when the news turns out to be good.

"Moriarty" out.

    by jeichstedt

I'm about as excited about this as I would be if it was announced that another installment of the Police Academy franchise was to be put into production. Seriously though, doesn't New Line have better ideas to sink a few million bucks into?

    I'm there

    by darth melkor

No matter when it comes out I'll be there opening night along with Halloween 8 whenever it's coming out. Not all postponed films bomb. I seem to remember a little film called Titanic was pushed back from summer '97 to Christmas '97.

Now all New Line has to do is pick a freakin' release date and stick with it. Then promote this sucker like there is no tomorrow. Hype it up and get behind it all the way! On a side note: make Freddy Vs. Jason already! I'm not getting any younger!

My other idea for Friday 13th Part 11

    by itsover

"Fridays the 13th" Where Jason repeatedly kills Chris Tucker in increasingly creative ways. That might be the most satisfying in the series. Anyone from New Line out there? anyone?

Please don't banish this film to video,

    by grimace

I need to see it on the screen. I consider myself a Jason-freak, have been for almost twenty years. And will not stand to see this franchise sank to the depths of the "Leprechaun" series. New Line owes it to every fan to release this to the theatres, especially after jerking us around with "Freddy vs. Jason" for so long.

    Buzz

    by sentinel prime x

Am I the only one thinking that New Line should be putting teasers out NOW for this flick? Start the buzz going New Line! If you want to generate huge fan interest in this movie, give us a taste aside from publicity stills. I'm looking forward to this movie, it's been a LONG time since we've seen a good slasher flick. I'm sick and tired of Scream and all her bastard children. We need some mindlessly fun horror movies. Bring on Jason X! Bring on House Of 100 Corpses! And lastly, death, DEATH I say to the Dawn Of The Dead remake! If you want people to see a good zombie movie, re-release the ORIGINAL for God's sake! That's all I have to say. Thank you, goodnight!

    What is so difficult, please?

    by emplord

Why is figuring out when to release this movie so complicated for New Line? Why's the studio acting like it's some sort of precious piece of art that can only be released when all the pieces of the universe are perfectly aligned, or not at all? IT'S ONLY A FUCKIN' JASON MOVIE! Meaning, it's a safe bet, but not a potential Titanic killer. It'll do well the first weekend thanks to all the blacks and teenagers who'll flock to it, then it'll sink drastically but will ultimately make a profit, then it'll enjoy a profitable life on video. No matter how "right" the release is, it's not like it'll make 100 million more than it would've if it were released within a month from today or ANY day. Release the fucking movie, already! Put it out there! Enough with all the meaningless, meticulous planning. IT IS A GODDAMN JASON MOVIE...PART 10!

At least THIS movie promises to be fun. Remember that concept Lucas? "Fun?" And it'll be my first experience with Digital Film so I *really* wanna see this sucka on the big screen! If New Line had any brains they'd unleash it October 1st for the Halloween season. Bring it!!

well I guess there really is no way to end somthing that makes $

    by neosamurai85

why is this happening? it's over. Jason Goes to Hell. need i say more. I have not kept up with this due to the fact that i thought it was a joke that would never happen. but now returning from a vacation i find i just can't pretend any longer. it's real... But WHY? I mean it's not that I'm sick of Jason slashing people or any thing. I'm a long time fan of F13 my favorit of which remans the first one. I like the films a lot but it's over. there is nothing left in it. this reminds me of the talk about The Godfather 4. I'm not in the mood right now to try and remember how that fan tastic line goes but hard core fans of those films should know what i'm talking about. Any way I do at least hope the film is in fact good and that I am wrong about it. there are lot's of things I could say about Hollywood and this but it's all old and been said SOOOOO MANY TIMES THAT IT'S MAKING ME SICK! I'm in a Half good mood even thouugh this post may sound down though and am hopeing the rest of the news that I'm going to look over from this past week has more happy notes then this. But I am Happy it's going to the Big screen. otherwise i'd just spit. Hmmm... maybe horror needs an old vet like Jason to show these whimpy teen flicks that claim to be Horror. That's my best hope from it. peice.

How about releasing the subsequent FRIDAY films on DVD in specia

    by monkey_king

Alot of these films had footage trimmed due to the gore content. I say release'em all uncut on DVD. Hell, JASON GOES TO HELL was released in a tame 'R' version and an UNCUT version, why not the rest? The first film was released in Asia uncut. I'd even like to see the 3-d restored for part 3 on DVD.

    This movie's a JOKE...

    by notageek

...and so are the producers and anyone involved who think this film is A) needed or B)a good idea.

When it tanks at the box office it hurts other horror films from getting green lit...horror films that actually have something new to say. (imagine that!) And whoever says that NEW LINE never considered a "straight to video" release obviously wasn't in San Diego when the trailer was BOOOed by several thousand. An incredibly dumb idea for a franchise that's been dead for a reason.
