UPDATED -- Wanna see the video for Afroman's BECAUSE I GOT HIGH from JAY & SILENT BOB STRIKE BACK'''

Published at:  Aug 17, 2001 12:52:09 PM CDT

Hey, gang. "Moriarty" here with a quick update. This song is gone, gone, gone, since Movie-List.com only had a two week agreement to post it. Right now, there's no place on the net to find the video. If we come across another link, we'll repost it then. For now, no luck. Sorry.

There are moments in film where a song simply takes you to the best place in the world. At the end of JAY & SILENT BOB STRIKE BACK... Playing over the end credits, Afroman's BECAUSE I GOT HIGH seems absolutely awe-inspiring. The song makes me giggle, smile, laugh and cheer. And I don't know if this is an original first time song or not, but if it is... Then dear Christ Almighty, may the Gods that be find a Nomination for BEST SONG for BECAUSE I GOT HIGH... Hell, long ago SHAFT got nominated and WON!!! This song is equally as cool! Be at peace my friends, this song will take you there! Thanks goes to Movie-List for archiving that which MTV is too big of a pussy to show!

    Morning Radio

    by beorn

A couple of local DJs got ahold of this song and have been playing it all week on their morning show. It's a welcome respite from their lame-ass canned laughter and sound effects.

    Horward Stern

    by uber red devil

The man deserves the credit for this song. Kevin Smith got it on the soundtrack, but everyday it's played on Stern's show. Christ they're even coming in next week to do it live. Fuck FPJ, he's on next week as well, call the show and embarass his poor acting ass,to the point where he does a poppa, or ends up in really bad Z movies where he belongs. 1-800-44S-tern. Embarass the douche bag in front of the whole nation, call the number whenever he's on and let him have it.

a hip hop track will never be nominated for an oscar

    by guerilla_films

The Academy is way too conservative and inbred for that. Look at DJ Shadow's score for 'DARK DAYS', David Holmes' music for 'OUT OF SIGHT', and "Fight The Power" by Public enemy for 'DO THE RIGHT THING'.
And this Afroman song is supposed to be serious isn't it??? It's lamewhatever the hell it is. Just because Fatboy said so - everybody DOESN'T need to use 303 anymore...

    Good song - bad movie

    by vlad the impaler

How about updating the article(the link does not work!)
Anyway, I have heard the song on the radio in NYC (don't live there, just visiting). I had no idea it is from the upcoming Strike Back movie. Very cool and relaxing song with smart words. I thought it was very funny. Judging by the preview of the movie, the song will be its best part.

I assume Knowles isn't serious about any Oscar potential...

    by charlespalantine

... for this gimmick "hip hop" song, so I'm not gonna even address it. I will admit that it's pretty funny to listen to the first few times. But why does Knowles have to use "Shaft" as the yardstick for songs unworthy of an Oscar nomination? Why not call out Phil Collins or, even more appropriate, Trey Parker? Isaac Hayes wrote kick-ass film music. Anyone who's ever heard "My Mind's Playin' Tricks on Me" by the Geto Boys has heard another of Hayes' great film scores. The "sample" for that song (which was pretty much lifted wholesale) appeared on the "Tough Guys" soundtrack. "I sit alone in my four-cornered room staring at candles..."

Harry, c'mon... comparing this to SHAFT?

    by mcvamp

"Shaft" was fresh, interesting and after 30 years, it's still a bad ass song musically. "Because I Got High" is a nice little novelty record, but that's all it is. A novelty record. Yeah, like "Mambo #5," I said it. Personally, I think Cheech and Chong's "Up In Smoke" (the song) is better anyway. Besides, we all know "Fever Dog" should have won last year.

Uh... both the videos from Afroman and Stroke-9 from the soundtr

    by llghtst0rmer

...just check out Kevin's NewsAskew.com and search the archives for "Afroman Video." It should give you the news update dated July 19th, with the links for Afroman and Stroke9's videos. They're RealPlayer streaming video, but they (surprisingly enough) don't suck, and load quickly. ...See y'all on the 24th. (Unless anyone else is going to the Saturday sneak previews here in San Diego. Snoogins.)

    Sneak Preview

    by trekdude

Jay and Silent Bob Rock!! I wish more movie this summer would be a lot more like the laugh-fest I was lucky enough to catch tonight. I'll have to go back on opening night because I missed jokes due to the audience laughing out loud. Most comedies this year have fallen short of the mark. Thank you Kevin Smith.

I've been a Kevin Smith fan For Years...

    by dropkickmurphy

But Kevin, honestly do we need to see you in every friggin video off of every song in your films? I saw the thing on IFC too and you called yourself a "whore". I know it was supposed to be funny, but please man, give it a rest so we have time to miss it. I'll now slide my soapbox back under the couch.
