OCEAN'S ELEVEN poster here

Published at:  Aug 17, 2001 9:48:12 AM CDT

Hey folks, Harry here... Hellboy sent in this wonderful image of the OCEAN'S 11 poster for the Soderbergh, Clooney, Cheadle, Pitt, Damon, Roberts, Mac, Gould, Garcia, Damon and on and on and on remake of that old Rat Pack legend flick of yesteryear. Finally a remake that is being put together and handled with style and class... And personally, that's what this poster has... Style and class. Looks.... COOL! All Caps! You have to love it when every single aspect of the film is smooth... Scripts, casting, test screening and the promotional material... Nice!

Yeah, it's classy and simple, but it's also lacking. Maybe it's just my primitive mind of growing up with gaudy/tacky one-sheets, but this seems to be missing some charm. Just one guys opinion.

I've got such hig hopes for this film for no other reason than to show the rest of H'wood that a big budget movie with a plethora of big name stars can still be done with style and class today. And that it doesn't have to end up like "Rat (excuse me while I vomit) Race"!!

    by dannyocean01

This looks sweet. As Harry says I can't believe how cool this film is in every aspect. The poster is the cherry on top of a nice gateau. The artwork looks very much like Alex Ross's comic cover work. Finally, I've mentioned this before and I'm going to annoy people but DOES ANYONE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE know where I can get a look at the script. Harry if you're are listening have mercy on my poor soul. For any responses I bless you and thank you and that guarantees you a place in heaven.

    Very nice...

    by case

...reminiscent of the ever cool Barry Lyndon poster, with a bit of a Reservoir Dogs feel to it. I really loved the poster for the Limey. Too bad I didn't enjoy the film. I loved Traffic, but I didn't like any of the poster designs. This design is beautiful. Simple, with a punch. Everybody loves Saul Bass.

    by itsover

I'm not at all salivating over this movie, re-makes still leave a bad taste in my mouth. I have to say though this is one of the most eye catching posters I've seen in a long while (hey poster you mind giving my eyes back? I need them to oggle Cameron Diaz.) Hats off to whoever designed it. I'm hoping this is a good omen.

    by itsover

the "starring in alphabetical order" bit. Whose agent do you think demanded that be put in? I also wonder how many hours agents and mangers fight with studios to get the little word "and..." added above thier client's name or the position of it on the poster.

    Very chic

    by lizzwith2zs

I really liked this and I am pleasantly surprised also. For a movie that has so much star power and big names, how cool (and very strategically ironic) is it to have nothing showing but the feet. Very well dressed feet, at that. Very cool, makes me want to see this film. I'm not a caper-movie type of gal, but if the rest of the men in this movie look half as good as their bottom-halves do on this poster, then I am there. Every girl's crazy 'bout a sharp dressed man.......ZZTop

    Advance Poster

    by renard

This'll be the advance style, so any others closer to the time will have faces probably. Bram Stokers Dracula had a good advance which didn't even mention any star names nevermind pictures. Saul Bass would've designed this poster if he was still alive. He did the opening credits to the original Sinatra movie as well, and this poster has the kind of stark image he did a lot of

Guarantee you that the boys in marketing kill this and go with a beauty shot of Clooney, Pitt and Roberts. Damon will be noticebly absent.

    Smithereens

    by renard

I checked out the Smithereens "11" album cover on Amazon, and bizarrely, the lower artwork is directly lifted from the 1960 Oceans 11 poster, and the figures are very nearly identical to the final credits scene in the original, so I think this might be an ironic in-joke by somebody -----www.oceans11.co.uk

It looks like the Smithereens cover because the Smithereens cover was a takeoff on the original movie's poster art.

    by movie_junkie

Erase the "And" before Julia Roberts' name. I think it would be cool if they just made them all equally cast instead of giving them ranks. I think it would look better too. I hate it when there an "And" before the name..."And" = 10-15 mins. screen time :)

    re: The Smithereens-thick as thieves?

    by fredman

To "The Grin" and other TB'rs who are under the impression that the Smithereens stole this iconic 11 design, please take a look at the following:
    http://www.coolmoviestuff.com/oceans11_info60.htm
    and
    http://us.imdb.com/ImageView?u=http%3A//images.amazon.com/images/P/6300269299.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg
Being a VERY big fan of the Smithereens, I do remember where Pat DiNizio was interviewed once about the similarity to a certain rat pack picture and said it was the whole point to sell the album on one of the 60s strongest images: the Ocean's 11 poster by Saul Bass.
This film being a remake anyway, it makes even more sense to use the title design. Much like Burton's use of the original Planet of the Apes logo for that remake. I mean, reimagining.
To add my own 2 cents about the film, I do hope it's as cool as seems to be the general consensus. I'm coming around to the Clooney after "O Brother" but am not exactly a fan. Also, the original 11 was no great shakes, itself. What I've read here seems to seperate it enough from the problems of the source material (stopping the story to make time for Sammy and Dean-O to sing a couple of numbers, eeesh), we'll see.
Anyway, my point was Soderberg and the Smithereens both stole from Saul Bass if you want to call it that, but the argument for it being done in homage is pretty valid in both cases. Let's just hope it's a better heist than "The Score"
    (shame on you, DeNiro)

LOOKS LIKE A TEASER -- BET THE RELEASE POSTER BLOWS...

    by porkchopexpress

... like every other movie poster these days that HAS to have the stars' faces on them. I used to collect movie posters and quit about five years ago when everyone of them was covered with a mug. Whatever happened to the old painted posters. The word "old" frighten some? Many of those films made $100 plus, and yet we're stuck with Mel Gibson and Helen Hunt smiling for "What Women Want." There is no imagination or creativity left in the marketing world of film. Browse your local video/DVD outlet and see how every cover looks nearly identical. Kudos to a catchy and clever teaser poster... but I'll bet the release shot has Clooney and Pitt all over it. As much as I like them, let me have to hit "play" or dish out the dough to see them.

    Star Power

    by magnoliaman

Is it just me or does Andy Garcia's name dilute the poster's otherwise enormous display of starpower? I realize they're listing these guys alphabetically but it seems like he's just not a big enough star to be listed between Clooney/Damon and Pitt/Roberts. Must have a good agent. PS: I have a feeling this movie may have to deal with a little bit of Mexican backlash. I know many people who actively hate Roberts and Pitt, after seeing that film.

Oceans 11 Poster -- Monkey Business!

    by 0074ever

Sorry but I find this poster to be VERY lame. Set up a monkey with Adobe Photoshop and you'd get a better poster. Here's hoping a cool shot of Pitt and Clooney w/ Roberts in-between makes the final release poster. I wouldn't even care if it was just a silouette of the three of them. It should be a great movie regardless.
