Why is it this cat gets to see a stack of great movies I'll have to wait for?...oh...that's his job...my bad! All that aside, I think this review finally convinced me "The Others" is in fact worth it. I whole-heartedly agree about how audiences have been spoiled by MTV editing and am seriously looking forward to something with a bit more leisurely pace.

It was directed by a guy named Takashi Miike who also did Dead or Alive, Audition and Full Metal Yakuza. It is a JAPANESE FILM for crying out loud!

I finally caught the movie yesterday afternoon and I must agree with both Harry and Moriarty,... this is probably one of the better horror films made in the last few years (definitley one of the best of the summer). I don't know why so many people complain about the pacing of this film---I've heard numerous bitchings about how slow it is, which I find strange because I was invested in the story from the first few frames. You can tell someone is bored when they lose interest in the characters and just bide their time until the closing credits. The movie is dark and creepy and just plain beautiful to look at... and it didn't hurt that Nicole Kidman and the two children were compelling and complex characters. I also happened to watch the film with a terrible audience! Almost everybody in the theater was giggling away as if it was the funniest movie of the summer. I couldn't tell if it was just nervous laughter... but it was annoying and ruined the atmosphere. Plus, some chick brought a crying baby to see the movie... that's real smart. Anyway, I highly recommend this film to any fan of classic gothic horror!

Uhh, Moriarty, maybe next year you should get to Fantasia for the first week of the festival, not the third week, so that you're not still writing reviews of stuff over two weeks after it ended! Though, if Fantasia 2001 reviews are still okay, can I submit one of CRASH LANDING? Steve Brandon email@example.com

The fight in the food court outside the theater, the group of teens that had obviously smoked one too many before entering late and stepping on people while giggling, and the girl to my right who whispered to her date for the first ten minutes. Not knowing the proper movie theater etiquette for telling her to shut the hell up, I finally leaned towards her and gave her a nasty glare. It worked but I would rather have dumped my popcorn in her lap and pulled the bag down over her head. Oh, I got to see "the wave" Nomimalone mentioned previously. Great movie!____Bee
