A Tad of the plot to Jet Li's upcoming HERO directed by Zhang Yimou!!!

Published at:  Aug 09, 2001 1:17:57 AM CDT

Hey folks, Harry here with a look by Ye Meng at Jet Li's HERO, which will start filming this nest week in China. It will be a historical epic kung fu type flick shot by the amazing Zhang Yimou. So I'm so there. Zhang is a fantastic director, if you've never seen RAISE THE RED LANTERN, go rent it immediately, superb film. And now he's doing a Jet Li flick in China... Well, all I know is that it can't come soon enough...

Hi, Harry.

Ye is back.

Here is the exclusive plot of the upcoming Zhang Yimou
/ Jet Li film, Hero:

Before became the First Emperor of China, Ying Zheng
(played by Chen Daoming), King of the state of Qin,
brutal and ruthless, was the target of many assassins.
Among them, Can Jian (Broken Sword, played by Tony
Leung Chiu-Wai), Fei Xue (Flying Snow, played by
Maggie Cheung) and Liu Zhi Tie Shou (Six Finger Iron
Hand) are the best. However, their plan was challenged
by Ying Zheng's bodyguard Wu Yu (Silencer, played by
Jet Li). He rarely spoke and no one knew what he was
up to, but something was hidden behind this eyes.
Three assassins fought their way into the king's place
and were killed by Silencer in front of the king. He
told the king his enemies had been wiped out but the
king did not trust him. When Silencer finally start to
fulfill his wish, killing the king, something more
deadly was waiting for him ...

According to some insider, Jet Li decided to take the
project and receiving a pay-cut mainly because of the
character of Silencer, psychological and tragical.
Cheng Daoming has replaced Jiang Wen as the king,
later became the First Emperor. Interesting enough,
both of them have played Pu Yi, the last emperor of
China before. Jiang Wen played the last emperor in The
Last Empress (1987) and the First Emperor in The
Emperor's Shadow (1996). Cheng Daoming was the lead in
TV series The Last Emperor. Zhang Ziyi will play a
very minor role in the film, the maid of Broken Sword.
She was secretly in love with her master and was
willing to sacrifice her life for him. Her weapons are
twin knives.

Shooting will start on August 15th in Dunghuang, on
the Silk Road of Northeast China.

Wait for more news.

    great news

    by virkku

Jet Li, Tony Leung and Maggie Cheung in a historical, epic kung-fu film directed by Zhang Yimou? This sounds awesome. But the question is: is the film done with the usual ultra-low budget of HK flicks, or does it have a bigger budget thank's to Li's bigger star status nowadays? And is it in english or chinese? Or both?

    Zhang Yimou

    by virkku

BTW, how many of you have seen Zhang Yimou as an actor? I think he was great in the fun, cheesy action flick Terracotta Warrior (1989). He has a great screen presence.

    by dastickboy

Hmm, I have these in as the best Jet Li films, even above Fist of Legend. They just seemed to have a bit of everything in good portions, and with good pace.

Although The One looks FOOKING ACE!!

    Tony Leung?

    by shingster

Tony Leung's not the bloke in Iron Monkey, he's the bloke who played Alan (The undercover cop) in Hard Boiled & Cop 663 in ChungKing Express. The bloke you're thinking of is Rongguang Yu.

Can't wait for this one. Let's just pray that Dimension don't get their hands on it.

    Hero

    by dirty tiger

I have to agree, Hero sounds like a good film. Rongguang Yu ? I know him as Yu Rong Kwong. One of the best films he has been in is Green Hornet ( although he doesn't have much of a part in it ). He was also one of the main Chinese characters in Shanghai Noon. Back to Hero, don't quote me on this, but I think it could well be another of Sony's forays into the Asian market, especially as they backed a couple of Yimou's other films - fingers crossed it'll be good and get a wide release. People ask me sometimes. . .

    by sith lord jesus

. . .why I've been watching so many foreign films lately, and why I avoid Hollywood's "product" like the plague. Well, it's not just because of the fact that most American movies of the past 2 years have sucked syphilitic donkey cock. It's also because I love to watch epic, glorious, romantic movies like this. The kind of film Hollywood *used* to turn out. . .but doesn't anymore. Historical epics have always melted my butter, Asian historical films most of all. I will certainly be lining up for this whenever it comes out.

    by holoholojoe

he won the f**king cannes film award for the best actor this past year for "in the mood for love"

and Maggie is bar none, the best actress in HK movies for the longest time..

add a fantastic director that "discovered" Gong Li and that CTHD overated nymph

    AND Mr. 5ft6 Jet Li

and i can't wait to get my hands on this movie. I am sure it will come out in Asia first, which mean my little hands will have a VCD copy BEFORE it hits the theaters stateside...

    by holoholojoe

    probably Golden harvest...
    with that wealth of talents,
only GH has the $$$ to pay all of
    them and not go bankrupt..

also, it seems the more one watches foreign cinema, whether it'd be from Asia, Europe, or even south america, the more one thinks our good ole USA movies sucks more and more..to be patriotic, i'd say we boycott all those fantastic foreign movies so we can watch a US made film and think it's good shit because we have nothing to measure the film with...shit, even stupid HK soap operas have more tension than all the summer blockbusters this year!
what a sad thing to say!
