Hey folks, Harry here... no comment....
Hey harry. If you haven't heard this load of bullshit
yet here it is.
DAWN OF THE DEAD - In a contemporary retelling of the
classic film, a group of people seek refuge in a
shopping mall from a world-wide flesh-eating zombie
infestation. When it becomes clear that no help will
come they decide to make a break through zombie
country for the ocean and a zombie-free island where
they can start over.

Sigh, ok I was going to remain quiet... But the concept of a Zombie movie with CG gore is just retarded. CG gore sucks ass... It is just lame, fakey funky ugly stupid junk.... Besides BEACON has a deal with UNIVERSAL and Stacy "I don't like Horror films and kicked Rob Zombie out of my studio damning his real horror film to obscurity forever" Snider! What? Are they going to do Big Budget NC17? Not bloody likely. Hell, with CG blood and gore, this will suck ass like hell. Add more characters in the Mall? The point was One woman and three men... the point was that you couldn't rebuild... that the group couldn't survive that small and isolated. What the hell am I doing? Obviously anyone that got the original wouldn't be remaking it. Sigh...
Hey Harry. More news if you aint got it.

Fanboy Planet recently conducted an interview with
James Gunn, the man with the difficult task of penning
the Dawn remake. Follow the link to read the whole
thing. Below are a few choice quotes from Gunn:
"It's a different take from the original -- which is
one of my all time favorite films -- but using the
central concept of the few survivors of a flesh-eating
apocalypse trapped alone in a mall."
He goes on to add:
"I'm excited about bringing the gore to a new level
with CGI effects and having a larger budget to play
with than the original film did. The screenplay
focuses on the nitty-gritty of surviving in this
world, treating the subject matter as if it were
totally real -- i.e., this ain't no campfest. It
should be terrifying and funny and sick as hell."
Wondering if we'll see updated versions of our
favorite fearsome foursome, Peter, Flyboy, Roger, and
Fran? It sounds as if we'll be seeing more folks
holding up in the mall, this time around:
"I could see a different take on the same subject,
with more survivors and more of a focus on surviving
in a world where the rules have totally changed."
As for whether or not we'll be seeing a Scream-esque
teen-fest set in a mall filled with the walking dead:
"I also saw a chance to do something in the horror
genre that was very different from the teen romps of
the past few years. Tonally, it's a return to the
great, gritty horror films of the 'seventies, aligned
modern day special effects and a sizable budget."
Finally, when asked how he felt about doing a big
budget remake of George's film while George himself is
seeking funding for a fourth Dead film:
"I would love for this new Dawn of the Dead -- both
the development of the film and perhaps an actual film
down the road -- to help bring more attention to
Romero, his career, his films, and his future
projects. That would be awesome."
Again, check out the rest of the interview.
I have mixed feelings on this whole subject: my place
here is to update the site as often as possible and to
keep things running in an orderly fashion- not to
editorialize and spout my opinions.
But I see my soapbox, just a few inches from where I'm
sitting, typing this.
I want to drag it over here, hop onto it, and launch
into an empassioned tirade against an industry held in
thrall by mediocrity, an industry that shrinks from
originalty like a vampire from the sunlight, an
industry that will green-light a big budget remake of
a great filmaker's work, while that very filmaker must
struggle through the mire of Development Hell,
fighting tooth and nail to produce new, vital,
original work.
But I won't. So I digress...
The opinions almost expressed above are not
necessarily those of George A. Romero; they belong
solely to your humble...
