Remember That Alleged Madonna-Voiced PDI/DreamWorks Animated Project We Told Ya About Back In May'

Published at:  Aug 07, 2001 5:09:24 AM CDT

Hey folks, Harry here... Remember back around the end of May, when Ralph Malph told us about a PDI DreamWorks Animated Project codenamed WILD LIFE? Well, today's Hollywood Reporter confirms OUR SCOOP from May 22nd, and expands on the story.

First the official title is now MADAGASCAR, and in addition to Ben Stiller, Madonna and Jason Alexander, we have Chris Rock joining the team. However, in our original scoop, we had Julia Louis-Dreyfus as reteaming with her ol' Seinfeld buddy in the film as well. No word if she is still attached; somehow, I don't think she was replaced with Chris Rock. Here's the basic rundown from Zorianna Kit and Chris Gardner from Hollywood Reporter...

""Madagascar" is described as centering on four zoo animals who are sent via ship back to their native homeland by an animal rights group that feels they belong back in the wild. The ship capsizes, however, and the animals find themselves in Madagascar. "

Very cool, albeit unique casting choices

    by terry_1978

This thing sounds like it definitely is going in the "Shrek" direction with the actors that are cast. Each of them are basically comedians(yes, that includes Madonna...she has been known to crack a joke or two in her day), and having a bunch of zoo-bred animals suddenly thrust into the wild with the personas of Stiller, Rock, and Madonna sounds pretty hilarious.

Chris Rock Needs More Adult Material

    by brad uk

Here we have an actor whose act mostly consist of very observant and true statements delivered in an array of four letter words reduced to Childrens fare.

He hangs on Kevin Smith's every word, ensuring he is the token black guy that gets to bitch about how bad it it being black.

In all Honesty, Chris much like Chris Tucker, is an Eddie Murphy wannabe, without the class of being the original. Chris find some more Adult toned comedy scripts and play an interesting lead rather than a child of Roots with a chip on your shoulder - No one likes a whining bitchy wannabe Chris...!

Compared to Eddie Murphy you are the Diet Coke of Star, One Calorie - not enough..!

    What's Madonna's part? A 40ish, bisexual, guitar playing rabbit

    by silentbob x

Given her past sex life and current look, that's probably the
way to go. But on a serious note,
I think that Chris Rock has got to
get away from these family friendly roles before he loses his
comedic edge like Eddie Murphy. I
mean, Chris Tucker's already stealing his thunder and it won't be but a matter of time before he's replaced Rock. I'd like to see Rock in more roles like JSBSB and Dogma, where he's quick with a joke or putdown. An ADULT joke or putdown. Movies like this and
Osmosis Jones will cut Rock off from his true audience, the 18-35
yr old male. I have grown SO tired of family fare ruling the
theater. It's time for the adults
to retake the movies. Snootch to
    the Nootch.

    All I wanna see--

    by sith lord jesus

--is a Madonna anime done by CLAMP. It should be set in an all-girl Catholic school and have something to do with tenticles, crucifixes, strict discipline, hot baby oil and chocolate. Madonna can play the Mother Superior with the whip. I'd pay full price to see that, oh yes I would.

speaking as an animal rights activist...

    by catfreak

i am hoping they will be portrayed in a positive light, and i am not going to get up in arms about it until i see the film. it's actually more offensive to think of madonna portraying an animal, particularly after her reversal on the fur issue.

    Shut Up!

    by cab

Please, just shut up. Why do you talkback about something nobody cares about? Don't you have a life or are you one of those fat comic book guys like on the Simpsons?

Leave Madonna alone, too! God, atleast she has actually managed to make it outside and did something with her life.

I'm going to leave you alone now so that you can respond with your negative posts about anything you'd like to type. Just keep in mind that everyone who reads them don't give a fuck.

  • Wealthy trust fund PETA activists with nothing better to do with their lives fetch as much as a fur coat.

As for animal rights activists being incompetent, geez remember when they freed those minks but were too stupid to realize what would happen when they did it.

There's no activist on earth dumber than an animal rights activist. But Hollywood being the place that it is, the animal activists will no doubt be replaced by Rich Evil White Poachers.

    Recapping Cab's Argument

    by docbosch

Stop it guys! Stop being critical in an area that is intened for people to be critical, especially of something that I like!! Now I'm gonna contradict myself and be critical towards you by generalizing and using old sterotypes, and by saying that you're the "Fat Comic Book Store Guy" from the Simpsons, cause nobody's heard that before. And for some reason you all are losers for critizing something i like, but I'm not one for critizing you all. Now I'm gonna leave so i don't have to read any negative replys to what I said, because negative replies are alright as long as I'm the one making them about what somebody else said, but not if they're directed at me!

    Ummmm, has anyone considered.....

    by cilmere

That this is the stupidest idea for a movie that I've ever heard in my entire life? Good lord people, listen to what you're debating: Whether the whole animal rights thing is a touchy issue. IT'S A MOVIE ABOUT ANIMALS, VOICED BY CELEBRITIES, GETTING STRANDED ON AN ISLAND!! Are you honestly going to sit in a theater and watch something like that? It's going to be like watching an animated Cast Away with talking, and, probably, cheesy comic relief banter between animals. Horrible horrible idea. OH man.
