ANDROMEDA 2.X Trailer -- With Marsters!!

Published at:  Aug 05, 2001 12:08:33 PM CDT

I am – Hercules!!

Our friends over at “Andromeda” kept telling us about this fantastic unofficial trailer for season two that ran at Comicon. Well, it’s finally up here, and it’s pretty darn cool!

Not only does the Deric and Corrado effort feature terrific footage of “Buffy” regular James Marsters as the Nietzschean archduke Charlemagne Bolivar (a decadent, foppish yet formidably intelligent and deadly nobleman), it demonstrates that the series’ huge first-year ratings have brought “Andromeda” a bigger budget (to say nothing of a better production designer and costumer)!

Oh yeah, if you look fast you'll also see chief "Lone Gunman" nerd Bruce Harwood as a nerdy defense contractor the Rommibot will come to protect.

I am – Hercules!!

I'm now more excited about the return of Andromeda than Buffy. I know, I know..I've broken a law of some kind by denying Joss Whedon of the most hype of 2001 award. Well too bad! The show is more interesting than Buffy, more action packed than Buffy, and the best characters at least get more than ONE EPIS to step into the spotlight! I hope Buffy dies a twisted death on UPN, just so greedy Whedon can cry on his pillow at night. So with that out of the way, WHEN DOES THE NEW ANDROMEDA SEASON START???

    by trollprincess

Let me tell you how much the phrase "I'll show you mine, you show me yours" turns me into a wiggling puddle. Ever since I first saw this trailer a day or so ago ... mmmm. ;) And seeing it makes me want to corner Joss with my Highlander sword and order him to get Buffy and Spike together faster. Faster, I tell you, faster! Mwahahahaha! *user regains her sanity* Where was I? Oh, yes. James Marsters. Shirtless. Excuse me. *thunk* If anybody needs me, I'll be lying on the floor until my spine comes back. (I'm usually not this superficial. I swear. But mmmmmm ...)

"huge first-year ratings"?!?! Voyager even had more viewers, you

    by magnetic_orchid

Herc, you officially have no credibility left. NONE!!! "Huge first-year ratings"? You call a 3 huge? A FUCKING 3??? Goddamn, even Voyager got better ratings. BTW, how can a fan of good shows like West Wing and Buffy even sit through crap like Andromeda? It's boring, horribly written, pretentious BULLSHIT. Get a clue and watch Farscape.

    And Magnetic Orchid proves...

    by lenonn

... that he or she knows very little about the differences between network television and syndicated television.

A 3 is good for a syndicated series, on cable or otherwise. Just look at Farscape, it hits something in the 1 range, which is good for Sci Fi Channel.

    by magnetic_orchid

...that he/she still needs to learn how to read. A 3 rating is indeed "good" for a syndicated series... but "huge"? Not in this or any universe. And do you really want to compare Andromeda's syndicated market penetration with Voyager/UPN's? Bring it on, smartass.

    Yes, a 3 is huge!

    by 2gold

You know how hard it is for a syndicated show to reach a 3 or higher average??? This isn't national outlet stuff, syn shows change days and times ALL the time. For a show to hold a 3 is damn hard for a first season.
You compared Voyager to the ratings of Andromeda..you must be another one of those sad Star Trek fans who can't accept that Trek is dead and should have been buried years ago.
Go ahead, cling to what is left and go agrue with your "buddies" who was the better Enterprise captain.

    Looks better now....

    by darth ranik

Show looks much more interesting for the next season. Looks like the budjet got a boost, and the set design looks a bit better, although the color purple ought to be banned from all Sci-fi designers palates. Haven't seen any purple sci-fi set pieces or lighting or what have you, that didn't make a sceen look like shit. The trailer looks good though, if they can bring a bigger scope to the show (trying to bring the whole galaxy back together with one starship is stupid, they need to make some political alliances and get the characters into positions of political power to effect changes of that nature). Bigger scope, a more epic view, a broader horizon. Thats what this show needs. Oh, and less purple.
And yes, I know they use a ton of purple on B5 (a show I liked), and I thought the look of the design was the worst part of the show. I just hate purple on set design. It just makes stuff look shitty. Do you live in a purple house? Do you know anyone who lives in a purple house? Did you ever see a purple house that didn't look rediculous? So why would anyone want to live in a purple space station? Ok, so I have a purple problem.

    by magnetic_orchid

...that he/she is just an idiot. By pointing out that even Voyager had better ratings, you actually thought I meant that as a compliment to Voyager??? Are you retarded??? I was obviously pointing out how marginalized and pathetic both of those shitty shows are. Calling a 3 rating "huge" isn't just inaccurate, it's INSANITY, plain and simple. ST:TNG averaged a 12 rating its last season. A 12!!! In syndication!!! Stick that in your crack pipe and smoke it.

This show's quality continues to improve.

    by frank einstein

It's becoming quite watchable. Not as good as Farscape (which looks like a mini-feature film every week,) but certainly better than the bland Voyager. I still think the production design is lackluster, though.

    Andromeda Season 2

    by leew

Andromeda season 2 looks to look better than season one in production design (new production designer, new costumer) plus they've got better guest stars (William B. Davis, Bruce Harwood, James Marsters (all the JM fans scream!), and more in the second half of the season. www.slipstreamnews.com has lots of info about the new season and my ComicCon report at www.sftv.org/comiccon.html has lots of the details from the Andromeda panel that the Andromeda promos debuted at.

    ANDROMEDA GOOD?

    by sokitome

I have tried to watch this show and give it a chance. I mean both Star Trek TNG and Buffy had lackluster first years but i just want to know one thing about andromeda. I missed most of the series open so someone could answer this for me. Why after three hundred years their starship is still a threat, and if the NIETCHIENS or however you spell it are genetically stronger and smarter why haven't they advanced technologically in three hundred years? Could someone please answer this for me.

    by tower001

I have a deep appreciation for Lexa Doig who plays Andromeda(Rommie). She's cool, dynamic and did I mentioned that she's HOT too?

Thankfully from the clips I have seen, including her apparently locked in an hand to hand fight with an unknown attacker, it appears that the proceducers will be giving her more to do this season. :-)

    It's all good!

    by hawkrider

Hey, I see everyone is taking sides for their favorite show. Personally I like all of them. However, I have to say I never truly fell into Voyager. I like Farscape, just wish the lighting would improve. Andromeda slowly dragged us into the more intense drama that concluded the season. I hope that they can tell that the story is dark enough with out blowing out all the light bulbs. I mean, what is it with space shows that require lower than needed light sources? Eight years ago we had a ton of sci-fi/fantasy shows. Some good, alot bad, but compared to now we had them. Support the genre are it may all be gone with Buffy in 2 years.

Why Andromeda is a Threat 300 years later.

    by tower001

The answer to your question sokitome is from what I understand is when the Commonwealth fell, the entire galaxy was thrown into a sort of 'dark age'. Technology advancements was either brought to a near standstill or actually lost ground.

    Technological advances

    by helos

The show has implied that without the peaceful, uniting force of the Commonwealth, the rest of the galaxies major powers slipped into infighting. They wasted their resourses, intelligence, and ambition on political manuvering, personal grudges, and xenophobia. The Commonwealth was more than a collection of planets. It was a common goal. And having a common goal can accomplish more technological inovation than 100 individual goals. Yes, they need to move away from the "lone starship restoring the Commonwealth" idea. They need to form alliances (which provides much drama) and they need additional background crewmembers (again provides drama).

    ST: TNG HAD TREKKIES!!!

    by 2gold

This are the nuts who dress like characters and discuss Starships for craps sake! Voyager will probably get a 12 in syn with all those wierdos running around! TNG had a cult following, Andromeda is just starting out. Man, and you once again PROVE your a damn trekkie by naming ANOTHER Star Trek piece of horsecrap! AS FAR as CURRENT Synd shows go, a 3 is HUGE! Is that better now ?!?!

    Some ratings perspective

    by geekgrrl

Let's take a non-trek show. Xena only dipped below 4 once in the entire first season, including repeats, and averaged around 6 in the second season, barely dipping below 5 ever, making it all the way to 8 for some eps. We'll forget how crappy the show got later on. We're just talking first two seasons. The point is Andromeda doing a 3 is good, but it isn't phenomenal, and it isn't record setting. Given the current market, it is very good though, and they do have the right to call themselves a syndication hit series. And I would argue that Andromeda does have trekkies as viewers. Isn't the show, "Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda?" Of course it's got some trekkie viewers! Not sayin' they all are trekkies, just sayin' they certainly do have a few. Personally I've had a real problem getting into Andromeda as a series, because the makeup is soooo horrible and the costumes are soooo cheasy and the dialog is sooo bad. But if they improve those things, I could really like the show. Actually if they improved two out of three I could watch it. And I'm very forgiving on improvements. I watched Bab 5, which was arguably weak in those areas, too.

My wife asked me why I think Trance is so hot. Besides the smile, the boobs and the walk, Trance has the prehensile tail. Gives you something to hold on to when you're doing the nasty!

    Andromeda, Farscape & Lexx...oh my!

    by fuzzco66

None of these shows have caught my interest. I'm not saying they are bad or they suck, they just don't grab me. I also read people saying that "X shows sucks your should watch Farscape". Or "Trek sucks, B5 rules". Funny thing is, no one ever mentions Stargate-SG1. I dig this show more and more with every episode. My cable company gave me 6 months of free Showtime, so I have been catching every episode I can lately, cause it's almost up. Anyhow: why is it that I don't see more people talking about SG1? Because it's on a pay channel? Because fandom dislikes it for some reason?

    I have to admit...

    by gadgetboy

That i never watched en entire episode. Why? it just looked so fake, so corny and just not believable. Again, it is all a question of "realism". To me,a starship cannot be anything else than military, and when I saw the look of those characters with long hair and dressed as bounty hunters, nahhhhh, not for me. I am going to check Farscape, I heard so many good things about this show.

    Even more ratings info...

    by buckna

Well, everything is relative and it's very hard to compare apples to apples in this market, but YES, Andromeda is considered a huge syndicated hit! For those that don't know, the show has recently had its contract extended for another 2 years guarranteeing at least 4 seasons!!! (Why Coax didn't post that when I sent them the info is beyond me, guess they don't like much of anything unless it has to do with Buffy?) Here is a link to the syndicated ratings breakdown for every week of the past season: http://www.sorboconnection.com/A/ratings.html Just cut and paste into your friendly neighboorhood browser. As you can see, Andromeda dominated the ratings in its genre, and it was during Xena's farewell season! Also Zena in its initial season isn't a good comparison because the market has changed soooo much in five or so years: ratings are down across the board for most everybody as the number of channels has gone up and viewership is becoming more and more splintered. (Not to mention Xena was a spinoff of an already extremely successful show to boot.) Oh yeah, to those that mentioned it, having Gene Roddenberry's name attached is both a blessing and a curse becuase we all know that the Trek fan population is made up of 50% sci-fi-in-general fans willing to give things a chance and 50% rabid fanboys that believe the only sci-fi shows worthy to exist must have Star Trek in the title.
