Look Out, Montreal!! MORIARTY Is Going To FANTASIA!!

Hey, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab.
Final version of this opening paragraph. I had a mini-drama play out over the last few hours that prevented me from getting on the plane on Monday night, which means I won't get to see Tuesday's programming, which bums me out, but it's fine in the end because I spoke with Pierre Corbeil, director of the festival, and I'm headed out on Tuesday night, putting me into Montreal around 10:00 on Wednesday morning. Spiffy. That means it's official... I'm going to attend the final week of the FantAsia Film Festival, as strange a collection of sci-fi, horror, and fantasy films as you'll find unspooling anywhere on the planet right now. The debut of the English dub of CASTLE IN THE SKY, the anime METROPOLIS, my first chance to see JEEPERS CREEPERS with a crowd, and a ton of films I know nothing about!!
CLICK HERE TO CHECK OUT THE PROGRAM!!
If any AICN readers in Montreal are eager to speak with The Professor while he's in town, I'd be most amenable to it, and encourage you to call The Delta Hotel at 514.286.1986 to get hold of me. Just ask for Professor Moriarty and leave your information. Or just come look for me at the screenings. You'll recognize me by the pink slippers and supplicant henchmen in tow. I'm going to try to hit pretty much everything that's showing, so I should be easy to track down.
I'm looking forward to this one as a great way to warm up for the Egyptian's Sci-Fi and Horror Festival, which starts pretty much as soon as I get back. Should be a great month of movies ahead, and a great trip north for this first batch.
"Moriarty" out.

Jeepers Creepers looks pretty good, but Moriarty, check out "Die
by boy howdy
Also, please let me know if Citizen Toxie ("Toxic Avenger") is any better in Francais. The title is certainly more continental. Heh. I said, "Ban Chick Wang".

Great! Enjoy your stay! Beside the festival, you'll see Montreal has a lot to offer. This festival is a great one though. I enjoyed their Ultraman retrospective last year. :)

hey hey, Moriarty. speaking as a montrealer myself, i gotta say that you could possibly have a Great time if you play your cards right. Montreal's a beautiful city, plus, I mean, it HAS been voted number one by FHM (or is taht Maxim? or Stuff? whatever...) women-wise. Yes, we do have the best looking (i've been to many american cities and UGH!, a lot of ugly ugly fat women, even in L.A.)and as the article rightly points out, a lot of the women here are EASY, especially the french girls. For them, waiting a week to sleep with a guy is a friggin' lonnng time, so one night stands are common.
if you're single have fun, if you're not, don't bring your girl...

Dude that's so sweet. Finally a mention of the Fantasia fest on this site. Can't wait till you get here Moriarty. If I can't find you I'm just gonna scream out at the top of lungs "MOrrrriartyyyyyyyyyyy".
Actually I just came back from the "Jackie ChanMy stunts" documentary. It was golden........
Gonna go check "el celo" tomorrow night. -
Dammit i love this city! Montreal! Montreal! Montreal! so, what every one here think of The Score, i loved it! specialy the scene were he runs in front of briskits, or in the end, with that newsguy, whats his name? this city is so great, we should all have a party man!
-
So an AICN crewman -- the Professor himself, no less! -- is coming to Fantasia. Heh, Moriarty, do you already have your tickets for the movies or do you have a VIP pass? Because for stuff like Metropolis and Millenium Actress, you need to queue for your tickets 2 days in advance before the booth opens, otherwise it's all sold out. Anyway, I hope I can see you there!

Just a friendly Canadian trying to help: go easy on the Molsons and Labbats first time out. if you're not ready, it could knock you on your ass. So, yeah, pactience young padwan. Be mindful of the future. Also, you're a lucky SOB to go to the festival, I've been seeing Ads for it on SPACE like, for the past 2 weeks. I'm just near T.O. dangit, we need a cool festival that doesn't happen at the beginning of September when I go to school . . .
-
Really, that's a great idea ! We should meet with Moriarty and have a little geek fest !
In any case, wednesday I'm seeing the BRUCE LAW doc about Hong Kong stunts, that oughta kick it ! -
so moriarty will be there can you post your pic so we will know what you look like?
looking forward to Bruce Law's reel and Olaf Ittenbach's fantastic "Legion of the Dead" -
Yeah! http://www.canadapayphone.com/newsreleases/1998-10-28.html and um http://www.canadapayphone.com/newsreleases/1998-10-28.html yeah, I love those 222's.

...Montreal has the best food on earth. If you don't go to Reuben's for smoked meat, Lafleur's for Poutine, and La Belle Province for subs, you wasted your vacation.
-
I doubt there is anything here worth seeing as Boobwatch is gone and the PH premier is over...let me know and I'll make sure you at least get the kama'aina rate...A Bee on the beach

Montreal is a great place and Fant-Asia is one of the reasons I've looked forward to the month of July in the last years. As another talkbacker pointed out, I do hope you have a VIP pass, or else you're going to wait and wait and wait... And by the way if you try Canadian beers and the infamous poutine it's at your own risk. Don't way you weren't warned beforehand.
-
It's Schwartz's or nuthin at all for the ultimate in smoked meat, no question about it. Sucks to be in Europe now, missing Jazzfest and Fantasia tremendously. Snif. And yes it is true, francophone Montreal women are tres chaud indeed - helps to know the language, though. Have fun at Fantasia, Moriarty, & have yourself a blast in my not-so-humble hometown.
-
What's fun about Fantasia, is that the medias here cover it as a major cultural event, and not as an underground fest. Millenium Actress by Satishi Kon made the cover of the newspapers. Another newspaper wrote a serious article about the gore in B Italian and Spanish movies presented at Fantasia. BUT do bring a pillow, as the Imperial is a great theatre but the seats are old and can numb your butt after a couple of hours. Another cool thing is that the crowd is part fanboys, part Asian parents bringing their kids (!!!) to see a movie in their language.
ALSO check with the tourist office about all the american movies being shot in Montreal this summer. For the past 6 years, we've seen many sets, from the infamous "Battlefield Earth" to lately "The Score". They use the Old Montreal and make it look like Europe or New York. You might wanna take a walk there.
So there. Have fun! -
Btw, Kall0911, which maxim mag did you set that? Last month?
Btw, the first year of FanAsia was the best. -
It's playin wednesday(tomorrow) at 7:45pm. There's still a few movies that are "to be announced". Montreal is the best city as far as I'm concerned.
-
Well, living here since I was about three, Montreal is indeed a beautiful city. I can't still get over the fact that I might see you, Professeur Moriarty. I haven't checked the program yet, but I hope I'll get to see some Ultraman action. Delta Hotel? not too shabby.....
-
Aww hell, that's a great idea! We should all get together, someone name the place and time, I'll call Moriarty and see if he's got the time to go.
