TIME MACHINE Trailer is very cool

Published at:  Jul 09, 2001 11:37:20 PM CDT

Hey folks, Harry here... While this trailer is a complete teaser... and aggravatingly reminiscient of the GONE IN SIXTY SECONDS trailer... there is one thing I love.... the Time Machine itself. Countingdown.Com has just posted the trailer... I have the link for the best size trailer, because what you need to do is freeze frame over the machine traveling through time... and your breath will stop. It's blurry, it isn't quite clear, but baby... it looks like a Victorian Time Machine to me... God I hope they fixed the script problems... This could be a lot of fun if they nail it. Comic Con attendees take your cameras and get some nice shots of the machine, unfortunately I hurt my lower back and won't be attending this year.... que sera sera... I so want to see what Sam Raimi shows y'all. QUINT will be there though... lucky bastard. Sigh... grumble grumble....

How come it's cool if it's like Gone in 60 Seconds?

    by freya

Anyway, yeah, the Time Machine is OK, I suppsoe. Unlike the silly poster!

I mean come on, how many of you care or have any interest in this film after seeing this. Terrible.

    It's clearly a parody

    by jt_ripper

Isn't it? I mean, it seems to be making fun of trailers like "gone in 60.".. Doesn't it? God, I hope so... Anyway, who cares... It's a time travel movie.. It'll be fun on some level.

It was damn funny! Can't remember who played the Time Traveler but he was pedaling the time machine like it was a big bicycle, very funny and possibly more amusing than this movie will be.

    okaaaaaaay...

    by seanr.net

That was interesting, course it's a parody. The irony/sarcasm is blatent, its upthere, before your eyes. Can you not see, fools!

Course, I dunno if there's a soundtrack (no sound, see?) but if there were... Well, lets just say that it'd probably me voiced by the same guy who did the Big Mommas House trailer ;)

Mind you, if it isn't accompanied by oil/water/lightshow type effects (ala http://us.imdb.com/Title?0080025 Time After Time) then there ain't no justice in the world...

ps. Harry, lose the Ads, you bat fastard, they're annoying...

Correction : TIME MACHINE trailer is very lame!

    by iamlegolas

Let me double check.... yep, that's the same one I saw in the theatres. And what do you mean it looks like a Victorian Time Machine? Was there such a thing? What can you compare it to? It *looks* pretty much like the time machine used in the original movie version, but we don't need to start on a whole "goddamn it I wish Hollywood would stop with the remakes already* topic! It's late... need sleepy...

    by phillylilley

I think the trailer is great. It's so good to see they have kept the original machine design. It looks so interesting. I think it's a great teaser.
And there is nothing wrong in GONE IN 60 SECONDS...I don't remember any of you lot making any thing better.

    by sweetsyl

...I saw this trailer almost two weeks ago in the theatre! I wasted my time downloading this. Doesn't show much, doesn't make you care much about the movie either. And Harry, what's with the pop-up ads? I don't care if you put ads at the top, bottom or sides of the web page. But PLEASE lose the pop-ups, they annoy everyone who visit this site. Thank you.

    Popups, and 60 seconds.

    by tesarta

Popups - there aren't any, you're seeing things. *** 60 seconds - you'll notice that Harry said the similarities were AGGRAVATING, not COOL or GOOD. He *still* doesn't like the 60 seconds reminiscence. Read the text, you morons.

    Where is your Inner-Child?

    by sam_i_am

Most of you forget movies are
meant to an escape to another
    place or time. All everyone
wants to do is point all thats
wrong with a movie. When I saw
the trailer to Time Machine, I
    thought COOL!, not because the
movie may be good or bad, but
    the idea of traveling through
time is cool enough to have me
    there opening night with my
    inner-child to enjoy the movie
    and wonder what if?

IF YOU'RE WAITING FOR A TIME MACHINE MOVIE

    by sierramountain

Then wait for Kate and Leopold. Romance and time traveling hasn't been done before in movies. You can also expect women to be falling in love with the eventual, "I traveled through time to be with you" sort of line the movie will have. After seeing the teaser for Time MAchine, all I can say is, what the fuck. Either that dude on the chair was jerking off to midget porn or he was sitting on an electric chair waiting to be fried.

    Webster's definition of TEASER...

    by l.b. jefferies

"an advertising or promotional device intended to arouse interest or curiosity especially in something to follow" Get it? It's not as good of a teaser as, for example, the one for Planet of the Apes or even Terminator 2... but it's just a teaser; lay off! If that was the trailer, then you folks would have a valid beef. In fact, this teaser is going to work, just watch... when the trailer for this comes out, you'll sit straight up in your seat with anticipation.

The machine should have been on the poster.

    by uncapie

I'd have been more interested in seeing the film than the crap they put out called a teaser. I agree that the trailer sends a mixed message to the audience. This is not a car movie, its a classic Victorian tale about mankind seen through an inventor. It represents the alegorian progress/digress through the centuries of man.

Abe Lincoln in the Time Machine

    by durhay

There was a skit (somebody else referenced it already) on SNL with Joe Flaherty as Abe Lincoln and Catherine O'Hara (yes, two SCTV alum in an SNL skit) as Mary.
Abe goes into the future, finds out how he dies, and goes back in time to kill John Wilkes Booth at various stages in his life. Abe fails each time, which gives JWB the motive to kill him. One of the better SNL "Abe Lincoln Humor" skits, the other being Joe Piscopo as Abe. "Sorry about that pal! Send me the cleaning bill - to my Gettysburg address!"

Won't the geeks get pissed if...

    by terminal

...this is the movie that finally Breaks out Guy Pearce and gives him that elusive A-list status (that both him and Russ Crowe should have attained with L.A confidential, though at least Crowe got his A-list ticket a few years later with Gladiator)

I've noticed that too many film geeks (if anyone wants to take offense to that term, be Pc and call yourselves movie buffs or whatever) seem to get poessesive over actors.especially ones that "normal people" know nothing about.some people want these fine actors to stay their dirty little secret forever.when joe blow on the street starts to rave about yer former "cult" actor, it really pisses some geeks off.that's when the accusations and insults start flying.
"his films were only good when I knew about him...he 's sold out to Hollywood...why could'nt he stay a struggling and relatively unknown actor instead of a Hollywood multi-millionaire."
most film buffs will still stick with Pearce when he hits the big time.but a few embittered souls will write off his "big time movies" and hole themselves up with a DVD of Memento forever.mark my words.this will happen.I bet those guys who love their "cult" actors were really pissed when Hugh Jackman scored big first time out on basically the only picture anyone (including film geeks) had seen him in.would'nt they have loved a few more years to worship his cult ass on their own.instead the general movie going public "discovered" him at the same time as all the film geeks.hahaha.that must have really hurt some guys out there.

    by hardyboy

I don't see what all this bitching and moaning is about. If there's anything I'm tired of, it's trailers that give away EVERYTHING in the movie (e.g., Castaway, What Lies Beneath), so I'm happy to see a nice little appetite-whetting teaser. Personally, I'll go see TM just to see how much of Wells' Fabian socialism makes it into the movie. Right now I'm betting it's very little.

The phone booth, The Delorian and the old rickety chitty chitty bang bang victorian time machine. We might have bought the Delorian, It was cool. The phone booth we got. The old Victorian style time machine might have worked in the 50's but not NOW! They need to make this movie in the present time! Make the computer the time machine! Turn it on, enter the coordinates, And the cam ZAPS you into time! Errr maybe not. Just a thought.

It was cool. I especially liked the music and then the Time Machine. I didn't know they were sticking to the original. But the original movie is a classic. As for the guy who said the Back to The Future movies are the time travel movie kings.... check out Time After Time. This new Time Machine's watch reminded me of the Nick Mayer classic.

    Enough Remakes Already!!!

    by twistedimage

Can't filmmakers just come up with something new already? Time Machine (the Original) was always so fascinating to me , one of my favorite films...but all this remake crap will leave the future generations memories of these crappy new versions of classics
    (whether TV or Movie remakes).
I doubt that the younger generation (most of them at least)
will ever take the time to go back to view the original and almost always superior films. As
    Shatner would say..."it sickens me!"

    by kitnwithawhip

I'm one of the people who saw the trailer and got all excited, just in case you REALLY wanted to know. The poster is pretty dull, and I hope they come up with a better Marketing Campaign than this one (Hot Rodder Magazine only has so many subscribers. They need to branch out!) but I'm hopeful. I REALLY want it to be good, and I'll cough up my $10 as soon as it comes out. The only Time machine design flaw I can see are the lucite bars stacked up on the back. I think I used to have bedroom furniture made out of the same stuff back in 1986. Other than that, I think the machine looks lovely. Pearce looks a little skeletal though. Think he'll make it to the opening weekend?

  • as I do artwork. As I had said in my first post. That movie still is wonderful. Yes, it was directed by Nicholas Meyer of ST: Wraith of Kahn and ST:Undiscovered Country. Two of my favorite Star Trek movies. Mr. Meyer also wrote the screenplay. Yes, certain elements of the movie are pretty dated (like the really lame take of discos music and the Time Machine effects). However, the acting is so good, the script credible and amazing. I can't say enough about this movie. My question will this new version of the Time Machine be as good? I really like Guy Pearce - very good actor. But I am using "Time After Time" as the measure against all movies based on a time machine.

Seems everyone forgets about things called books..

    by clortho

Everyone who keeps mentioning "remake, remake, bad!" seems to be forgetting that The Time Machine (in all its incarnations) are based on the book by H.G. Wells. People reinterpret Shakespeare's works all the time for film and you don't hear all the screaming and yelling you do with others. Sheesh..

I saw the teaser before A.I. and I loved how it played with the audiences expectations and then completely reversed it. I'm looking forward to this.
