I'm the first and Scary Movie 2's the worst. End of story.
by silentbob x
I've only seen the trailer and I'm
convinced that SM2 is packing more
suckiness than Freddy got Fingered, Whipped, and Tomcats combined. To the nth degree. Mark my words. Snootchie Bootchies. -
I still haven't seen the first, but I am interested in seeing this one, if only for the Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back trailer.

Snuck into this after seeing Atlantis. I got my money's worth

The cast does fairly good with the rather uneven material they've got. The most consistantly funny sequence is the Exorcist parody in the begining. Andy Richter and James Woods are great. Kudos to Tori Spelling and Chris Elliot as well. Unlike the Austin Powers films, there's not a lot of jokes recycled from the first to the second, though the Coming like a geyser joke makes a return. There's a Charlie's Angels riff that goes on way too long. Overall, it's an amusing hour and a half or so, but not a lot of full belly laughs. I hate to say it, but the trailer for Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back entertained me more.
-
this is the worst movie of the year!! take my word for it!! Do not see this, because it is a bad movie!! oh.. but i mean, i haven't actually SEEN it or anything, just saw the trailer... but my opinion is still valid!
-
Just to see what Chris Rock has done...
I think the trailers to both "Scary movie"'s reveal too much, and takes away from what would have really made you laugh in the theater. Like the first Scary Movie, on the commercials-- when Marlon Wayans reenacts Haley Joel Osment, "I see dead people," I actually busted out laughing, because it was good! But then the second, third, all the way up to the 142 time I saw it, it kinda got old. The first scary movie revealed too much, and their doing it again with the second movie. I hate trailers like that, Men In Black had a trailer like that, and everything was spoiled when you got around to seeing the movie... -
That was the only good thing about this crap fest....the movie seemed to rushed to be funny...some shit was worth a chuckle..but the Jay and Silent Bob preview was funnier than the whole damn thing...i CANT FUCKING WAIT!!!!!!
-
Up there with Godfather 2 without a doubt.
Why the fuck do you Americans make SHIT like this. -
That is all.
-
....to release this. I went to see it this afternoon, and it looks like they were simply trying to make the July 4th release date and slapped it together as fast as they could. Some of the jokes were funny, but most missed this time around. Maybe when they release it on DVD they'll polish it up for a more proper release. It has potential, but it played like a rush job.
-
You people just don't get it. Are there any black people out there who could write a review?
-
now i usually hate stupid comedies that people go to in droves, but what's with everyone hating this movie? it was great and you know it!
-
Ohk saw Scary movie two, and it was pretty funny. There were some nice solid jokes in there. i will admit they too some of the paradoies a bit too far. The Crouching Tiger and twister bit were the worse, and the hannibal bit was bleh! but the best part of the entire movie? The opening!!! the ending sucked, but that opening was wow!!! overall i give it a 2 1/2 stars (out of 4). If u liked the first one, go see the second. If u didn't like it, chances are u won't like this either and if u didn't see the first one at all? then just stay clear all together.
-
I was considering seeing this movie, but the clincher was when I found out That the Jay and Bob trailer was premiering with this flick, so I went. The trailer was definetely the highlight of my trip to the theater, but honestly I enjoyed the movie too. It wasn't as funny as the first, and I was hoping ( ? ) for more dick jokes, but it had it's moments. I'd give it 2 and 1/2 out of four stars.
-
Churn out sequel ASAP regardless of quality in a pathetic attempt to ride the original's success (a la The Mummy Returns).
-
Am I right in believing from what all you say that this is the worst movie this year, or does Pearl Harbour still hold that spot?
-
By the way, did I say I work for Sony? All joking aside, I never saw the first one, so the odds are I will not see this one. So I saved 5 bucks. I wonder if I can get my money back from seeing Cats and Dogs?
-
Brando, btw, was going to have the part that James Woods took over and he didn't "decide to back out". He was just too ill to do it. Woods is worth the admission price alone and I really wish Brando had been able to handle it. Chris Elliot was mostly wasted on some lame sight gags, although his banter with the guy in the wheelchair was good.
-
I want my money back. I'll bet Pootie Tang was better.
-
Because i swear that i haven't read any single talkback on here for a movie REVIEW where the majority say positive things. As a matter of fact, in every single f'n talkback i read, where people are reviewing movies, 95% of you are bashing the film, no matter if you've even seen it or not.
Do you guys enjoy anything? It must just be the hip, stylish thing to do these days to purposely be a stick in the mud about everything. Carry on, be hip, be stylish, you retards. -
hey, what does being black have to do with anything??

Tori's naked hooters and the BeetMan? You bet your ass I'll be there. Someone confirm or deny the Tori thing. BTW, Old Monkey hated the first Scary Movie for many different reasons(although the subliminal stab at Dawson's Creek was dead on). Shannon Elizabeth for Wonder Woman!!!!

Don't worry Baldwin Sister, David Cross was pretty funny.
by basic alias
He plays a guy in a wheelchair obsessed with doing everything himself without any help, and it results in some pretty funny bits, including a quick insult contest with Chris Elliot. In all, I thought this film was worth a rental, as there are some funny bits in the movie (the Exorcist parody and the parrot are hysterical). The real problem with the film came from its aimless plot and chopped up storyline. This film was obviously edited together using focus group reactions, and it looks like a lot of important stuff was left on the editing room floor. How else do you explain why a major character dies, and nobody notices. Or why Tori Spelling seems to be there only for the service of one (1) blowjob job. The funny thing is, she gets off lucky (no pun intended). Kathleen Robertson is treated like furniture. Hell, the fucking parrot gets more screen time than her! I just don't understand why they added all these characters to the film if they were never going to use them. It's just a low down, dirty shame. Oh, and on a final note, I think it's time for Marlon Wayans to stop playing idiots. Seriously. Right now. You see, I saw him in Requiem for a Dream, and now that I know he can act, and act good, there's just no excuse for him and his pothead bullshit anymore.
-
Brando was very ill when he showed on the set, and was there for less than 2 hours. Woods was a last minute replacement, but my buddy who worked the film felt Woods carried off the Exorcist bit better than Brando would have. I haven't seen it yet, but will. I am afraidthe movie will have suffered from rushed filmmaking. They were back in doing reshoots just two weeks ago. That shit is insane, and it sounds like it is reflected in the finished product.
-
PopCulturePit.com ok?
-
I laughed my ass off in the first one, but this pathetic pile of crap was so strained and choppy and .. ugh, I don't even want to discuss it. If you wanted to see it, you'll see it anyway, and see for yourself. So whatever.

(I was joking)
'SM2' is not as good as the first one. The bad jokes in this movie are much much worse than the bad jokes in the first movie (remember the 'AMISTAD' joke?). That being said the raunchy jokes are much raunchier than the originals? Does that mean they are funny? It would depend on your outlook. I enjoyed it and I would recommend it, marginally, as a film to check out.
The Wayans do their best, and their is more of an attempt at a "plot", maybe, than their was in the first one. Everyone is funny, including the main female character, Regina Hall, and Kathleen Robertson has a nice bit, although I am just now finding out that she was on 90210?! The 'seduction' scene with David Cross from Mr. Show was funny - if tasteless (at the same time!) as was his "cripple banter" - which is worth the price of admission alone if you see it at the dollar show. Shawn Wayans' character Ray still "is-or-isn't" gay, and they play that up a couple of times. Shorty doesn't have as many pot jokes, but the visual jokes using his character are MUCH funnier this time around. And Chris Masterson from Malcolm in the Middle, plays the same character in essence in this movie--which is a GOOD thing. You'll know when you see it. Tori Spelling did not need to be in the movie.
All in all it is worth seeing. See a matinee unless you take alot of people. I saw a 2:00 show, and the place was half packed--hearing other people vibe off the material was part of the joy for me. But if you see it by yourself, and have to pay alot it wouldn't be worth it. Actually the best thing might be to wait for the DVD, BUY it, and then throw parties based around it and the first one--which I also own.
Which reminds me. I know how nice and refreshing it is to see black or brown faces both in real life, and online, in situations where you might not normally see them. Like at a film school (which I attend) or on AICN (which I frequent often). But one of the rich things about 'SCARY MOVIE' the franchise is that it kind of breaks down that ghetto-ized, and divide and conquer mentality that runs amok in America - black and white. It's something I really hope to do in my filmwork, especially since I'm targeting it towards young people, who are really alot more racist than they think. I know this might sound retarded, but 'SCARY MOVIE 2' could go a long way towards healing the racial strife in this country - as long as we all don't get "split up". -
First off due to what we are talking about here I'm not even going to bother with spelling. If it's more nasty then the first then I'm probably... no... I'm just going to flat out not like it. (and that's say that I even watch it in the first place!) If it's cleaner then maybe. There were some things that keep me from totaly hateing the first one but for the most part it was not my cup of tea. I think a lot of (if not all) the jokes were just sick and not intelligent. I can't say that I'm for comedy going all out sick. I like films that have sick jokes but they also have good humore as well. Jokes that I don't feel guilty about laughing at. If Scary Movie 2 can do some of those as well then there is hope for the film. If they try to top the first one in nastyness (scary thought) then the film will just be flat out nasty! Orgazmo Had more intelligence in it's comedy then Scary Movie! I also rank it higher! And if they try to not only top the original Scary Movie in nastyness but give it a R rateing then I must say some one needs to break down the R rateing into three diferent rateings: R, RR, R17! Since they can't just call it what it really is! NC-17! oh no! can't do that! HOW MANY DICKS WERE IN THE FIRST ONE FOR GOD SAKE! THEY CAN'T GET AWAY WITH WHAT THEY DID IN A "TRUE" R MOVIE!
-
seriously, this isn't the kind of movie that you walk out of and think "damn, that was a choppy story. And another thing, the characterizations were weak at best and there was no depth to anyone on screen!" the point of this movie was to just kinda chill out for an hour and a half. i loved it, and i didnt really care for the first one. no, my iq is not under 40. no, i didnt drink drano as a child. no, i dont wash my face with a hot iron. this movie was funny, however raunchy (slightly less than the first), but it had some great jokes. The rest of the crowd seemed to love it, as a lot of jokes were covered up by prolonged laughter. and yes, i was one laughing out loud right along with them. peace. xf1121dc@hotmail.com

God I went in with LOW expectations.... and I got something even LOWER. What a unoriginal piece of junk. None of the spoofs lived up to anything that they could have been. Even the Excorcist spoof which looked like it could've been great ended up pretty weak. They ran out of scary movies to spoof... A NIKE COMMERCIAL? COME ON!? And the repetition of gags from the first film was ridiculous. Ray being gay and worst of all... the c*m-shot.... not very funny the first time... not even tolerable this time. At our theatre Cats and Dogs killed it box office wise.... I can only hope the rest of the nation holds up so we don't get a third. (Oh... and what's with putting Wilson on the poster and having nothing in the movie about him...?)
-
Jay and Bob WAS the best part of this moviegoing trip(plus the new American Pie 2 trailer was decent, even if they gave away the big joke of the movie). But I like SM2, as I am occasionally able to enjoy a movie. The opening Exorcist bit was unbelieveably funny. James Woods is God! The Charlie's Angels, What Lies Beneath, MI2 and Titanic bits were funny. The non-movie pop culture jokes were lame though(Weakest Link, Lewinsky, election recounts). I laughed a lot though. And when did Anna Faris become so god damn cute?
-
I had this week off from work, and it's been a mentally draining few centuries, it feels like, since I've had some down time. So I decided I wass going to escape my mind by seeing a ton of movies. First up was POOTIE TANG. Dumb movie. But fun, for the most part. And some bad production values. Of course, with hindsight...it looked like gold compared to Scary Movie 2. Easily the cheapest, lamest piece of drek I've seen in a while...and I saw Vertical Limit and Book of Shadows. (Let it be known, these are not the types of movies i normally frequent. But the 'Wood has not been making a lot of fun "popcorn" movies lately. Miss Congeniality and What Women Want were funny? Tomb Raider and The Mummy 2 would have been much better if they had...plots. And better CGI. Movies suck right now. People were so shocked when Fast and Furious did such big business. Why? The trailer and marketing gave us everything we needed to know: fast cars, adventurous women, and as one girl put it in line "that guy who was in that movie we saw that no one thought was going to be a hit but we liked" (I assume she meant Pitch Black...). That's a popcorn movie. It's the reason Jeepers Creppers and Rush Hour 2 are getting such great reaction during previews. Teenagers have some scary shit happen to them, black guy and asian guy do the buddy pic thing. Hell, they even have Jeremy Piven as Bronson Pinchot, just to make it even more familiar. But I digress...SCARY MOVIE 2 sucked. The only true inspiation they seem to find is with Regina Hall's character. Her American Pie parody scene is set up so perfectly that you can't help but think "Oh God...what foulness going to come out of her mouth" before they even start talking about it. Her comments on how people always split up based on color lines and then the black people die is amusing despite its lack of originalty. And her Scream 2 parody is also amoosing. (The Twister sight gag was not...)
Who knew back when I went to see Hannibal that it would end up being one of the best movies of the first 6 months of the year? Add it to Series 7, Memento, and Moulin Rouge and you have the only semblance of quality I've seen all year. -
she dropped about twenty pounds and had some work done. Speculation, of course, but I didn't even recognize her when the movie started and I leaned over to my friends and said "Wow, that bitch had some work done, right?" to which they said "Absoulutely".
-
you people who saying "scary movie was a piece of shit" took the movie too seriously. relax, and let the jokes and puns soak in.
-
Not on MY planet. Close your eyes, tighten your grip, and live your fantasies that way, pal.***The first film was worth the $3.50 on pay per view. The second one might be better. I'll have to see how desperate I am after exhausting all my other viewing choices.

in this sequel to last years succesful comedy we are exposed to several attempts of forced parody...which really serves as a device to cover up the fact that this film has no plot. It starts off with a pretty funny Exorcist Parody starring James Woods and Andy Richter. Eventough it's one of the better scenes of the film, ultimately it seems out of place because it has absolutely nothing to do with anything else. The rest of the movie revolves around a premise stolen from the movie "The Haunting". The returning cast members, Anna Farris, Shawn & Marlon Wayans, and Regina Hall...along with newbies Tori Spelling, Christopher Masterson, and Kathleen Robertson are attending a University at which they are recruited to be a part of a experimental study headed by a professor (Tim Curry) and his assistant, played by David Cross. Just like in the Haunting the group is secluded in an old mansion where strange things begin to happen. That is pretty much the gist of what little plot there is. Where the film goes wrong is that it relies too heavily and failed sight gags and dated pop-culture references and loses all focus and direction. To add to the incoherence, the character development is mediocre at best. Only the returning characters from the first film seem to have any real purpose. Tori Spelling's character was a complete waste. You don't get to know anything about her personality or even her character's name, she simply serves as the basis for a single scene involving sex between her and an invisible poltergeist. Kathleen Robertson's character fulfills the T&A qouta....nothing more. It comes to no surprise that Tim Curry's character kinda fades away with no real explination or climax factor...which isn't good considering he was supposed to be a major character. The two new characters introduced that were really worth watching were Chris Elliots handy man character and Dave Cross' wheelchair assistant character. Both are talented comedians who deserve to showcase their talents in much larger and better written parts and movies. I must give a finger of shame to the writers for using some of the material they did. They should know that in order for a parody to be succesful you should take aim at something that is popular and reconizable so when it's being parodied then we'll know. Parodying movies such as Hollow Man, The Haunting, and Stigmata..which here horrible to began with isn't a good idea. Also any references to the 2000 Presidential election or Monica Lewinsky could've been left out because both have been ran into the ground. Any scene involving the foul talking parrot was displeasing for me. His bantering was way over the top and he came off as dreadfully annoying rather than sadistically cute which is what they were going for. Ultimately this movie is another case of rushed filmaking. They had the budget, the talent, and even a fairly solid concept but sent out a second class product because of deadline purposes. Don't get me wrong the film does have several laughable moments and some outrageously gross sight gags that'll make you smile and cringe at the same time but it just isn't complete. The movie isn't very long at all.....not accounting for the previews prior to the movie....the total running time comes in under an hour and twenty minutes. They could've used this unutilized space to further develop some things and fine tune some of the comedy segements, such as the nike commerical parody, which runs way too long. Bottom line is, if you loved the first one then you'll enjoy this one despite it's flaws. But if you're going into this hoping to see an improvement over the original than look elsewhere. This movie makes a better rental.
-
A few funny bits --- I laughed at the Exorcist bit, the Thomas Jefferson statue, the 'mad cow' gag, the MI:2 flying doves bit, and the 'Florida ballots' gag. That adds up to, what, about eight minutes of amusement strewn around 90 minutes of boring dreck? Why am I supposed to think Chris Elliot is funny simply because he has a withered hand? Since when is a guy in a wheelchair crawling up steps anything less than wince-inducing? It's not -- skip it and see "Atlantis" or Iron Chef or anything at all.
-
SM 2 was funny as hell and that Paul Walker movie looked better than Jay and Silent Bob
-
Anything no matter how putrid, how crappy, how boy-bandy, how arrogant, how toffee-appley, how pretentious "aintitcoolnews trashing A.I."-ey, could keep me from seeing David Cross, (or the mighty Bob Odenkirk) up on da big screen. I will never, ever, nerver, venvervivivy, furry!..errrrrr....(*boinging noise as soccer ball hits me in the groin*)...Tera Delu!
-
This movie is horrible. I know its supposed to be dumb and we're not supposed to take it seriously but this movie was just not funny at all. This movie I bet was longer than it took the writers to write the script. I laughed more at the "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back" preview more than I did the movie for Christ's sake. Don't get me wrong I enjoyed the first one but like I said, this one is just not funny. The only thing worth going for is for the Kevin Smith fans who want to see a preview for "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back".
-
The only part of Scary Movie 2 that made me laugh was James Woods saying "Fuck This" at the sight of Natasha Lyonne. Beyond that, this movie is shit.
-
Well, what can I say that others haven't? In a half drunken 4th of July stuper I lowered my expectations and viewed this movie. Was it horrible? No. Was it brilliant? Far from it. The worst movie of the year? Pearl Harbor still wins that contest. Good as the first SM? You must be joking....and I guess the movie was supposed to be too. This movie is a whole LOT of hit and miss. When the jokes worked they were great (The opening sequence, The giant weed plant, and some others I won't spoil...think "Final Destination"), but when they didn't man were they BAD! Such as that nike basketball spoof! God how long was that scene, I let out a slight giggle for the first couple of seconds...but it just keeps going! Also many of the "spoofs" of movies were horrible in their conception and execution. The Charlie Angels scene? Yawn. The Crouching Tiger thing. Yawn. And don't get me started on the Twister, or Hannibal moments, man were those just awful! But I think my real problem lies with the horrible script. Okay now I know SM1 wasn't Oscar material, it didn't have the best plot in the world, but it least it had something resembling one! SM2's script falls flat, and then apart in many places. The opening scene, while one of my favs, has NOTHING to do with the rest of the movie. The rest of the "plot" which is based around The Haunting, also evaporates the moment Tim Curry's Proffesor vanishes. That was another problem with this aspect of the film. Why were new people even introduced? None of them (with maybe the exception of David Cross, or Chris Elliot) are explored enough to care about! Tori Spelling? Horrible actress! But still did anyone even catch her name? I didn't! She exist for one scene then dissapears. Tim Curry? Horribly underused! Also just vanishes! What happened to the two of them? And why is it no one seems to notice them missing? These things are simply unforgivable, and detract from what could have been a great film. Do I blame the Wayans? No. I blame Dimension Films and Hollywood itself. If they had just held this flick to even Halloween, more time to devolp a better script, etc., it could have easily topped the 1st film. Lastly, this movie seems badly chopped (props and blood appear, and dissapear), which makes me wonder if scenes were cut, or the reshoots were badly done? Hopefully when the DVD comes out we will get a better full version of the film, at least I hope. Knowing the way movies have gone this summer, all of its problems won't keep Scary Movie 2 from passing the 100 million mark, and if it does, watch out for Scary Movie 3, and hey Dimesion...this time try and remember one little word....PLOT!
My rating a C- (Had potential, but falls flat, only go if u loved the first film, and check your brain at the door) -
Actually, I think the writers, cast, and crew all did. Sneak in to see the opening sequence, then when the title pops up, run for your life. Apart from a few funny moments ("Tucked in...or out?"), SM2 was very disappointing. And they didn't even put a fun clip after the credits like the 1st one. Good thing we were the only ones left in there or I would have felt stupid.
Also, whoever the guy is that is criticizing people for panning this movie, but saying Memento is good.....have you seen Memento?!?! Regardless of what critics say, I had to drive an hour to see it because it's not showing around here, and I made the trip 6 times because it's the first original idea in a long, long time. I think the quality of a movie should be judged on whether or not you want to see it again, and with Memento, you have no choice....you have to see it a few times. DVD comes out Sept. 4, I hope it finally gets the recognition it deserves, since Orlando has 4 theatres with over 20 screens, yet they decide to show SM2 on 3 of those instead of giving films like Memento a chance. -
What a load of dreck. Thank God MADE is just around the corner.
-
at least we know that one will kick ass...if it hits #1 this week
(which i hope but highly doubt)
then, we will be sure to get more
of JL instead of SM - Stupid movies and it's sequels/prequels/tangents/and whatever hollywood can make a buck at..
-
Miserable crap-how bad can this summer get?
-
Well could it be Scary Movie 2 will not come out on top this weekend...? Here's the numbers for the 4th...hopefully acurate...
Cats And Dogs opens at #1 with 9.0 million, Scary Movie 2 opens at #2 with 8.8 million, AI dropped to #3 with 5.2 million, Doctor Doolittle 2 came in at 4th with 2.9 million, and The Fast and The Furious at 5th with 2.6 million.
This could be interesting, despite not being a great film I think SM2 was the favorite to finish in 1st, can't wait to see the final tally's! -
actually saw the first one. I never saw the first one and have no intention to watch this sequel. I don't think it would take a Phd to realize this movie's a must to avoid. The reason this kind of movie's being shoved down your throats is because YOU watch them, on the high profile 4th of July weekend even. Somebody even posted "it would be interesting to see the final tally". Sad. Your obsession at the boxoffice numbers is what's killing filmmaking. I still can't believe this movie's getting first-class- 4th-of-july treatment when this should have gone direct to video. This amidst the fact that there's a lot of good, well-crafted movies out now that barely get noticed.
-
grab the little hand!
-
Two VERY good movies that had people saying each one is better than the other (I'd bet somebody would post to say just that). It was much more exciting.
-
This movie had some really funny moments, and if some of the more bitter dateless movie goers on this board had taken the time to enjoy the movie instead of trying to give their bullshit review of it then they would have laughed too. Anyone that didn't laugh when the big pot plant was smoking shorty has no sense of humor whatsoever. I swear to christ the people around here expect every movie to be a masterpeice of biblical proportions.

I'M STILL PISSED OFF AT PAYING 6 BUCKS FOR SEEING THE FIRST ONE!
by halloween68
To all it may concerned... The first Scary Movie sucked ass. I said over and over to myself afterwards as it got rave reviews, "Did I see a different movie?" The one I saw was one of the worse movies I've ever seen. The only thing it was missing was Leslie Neelson and Andy Griffith. (I still shudder to think that I saw that one.) What the hell? Why did anyone think the first one was funny? Who thought it was funny? I heard crickets in the packed theatre I was in. And I was with about 10 other people. Afterwards, we all felt like we'd been anally raped after seeing it. I'll give the original maybe 3 or 4 funnies in the whole movie. Probably 3 to 4 minutes worth. Problem with that is that the piece of crap was at least an hour and a half long. Although it felt much longer than that. The whole movie was nothing but cliche'd jokes making fun of cliche's jokes. If anyone here thought the first Scary Movie was funny and you think that that's what slapstick and oneliners is about, go watch Airplane, Naked Gun, There's Something about Mary, Caddyshack, Ace Ventura, and the list goes on and on. But guess what, Scary Movie ain't on the list, and I'm guessing neither is the sequel. It's written by the dumb-asses. And seriously, who waits to use all their best jokes, or in this case maybe their only jokes, in the sequel? I have a feeling we've seen as good as it gets folks. And I'm not that much a glutton for punishment. So in case, as if by some miracle, the Wayans brothers all of sudden finally figured out what funny was, or went asked their brothers what it is, I ain't stepping near a theatre for this one. There, I've said my piece. Rant over.
-
Okay, so maybe I'm looking too deep into this film, but remember how in the Scream series, the first two films had the exact same ending sequence: Gale reporting about her near death experience, Doofy (er... Dewey)was hauled away in a stretcher, cops everywhere, etc. They did the same with SM and SM2:Both had a character screaming at the top of their lungs and run over by a driver who wasn't paying attention because he was getting head!(although the original ending was cut in the theatrical release but was included in the DVD.) Overall, I thought this was the greatest joke of the whole film (well, not the actually gag, i thought that was shit)
-
I laughed my ass off at this movie. It wasn't as funny as the first, the first one I don't remember ever not laughing, where in this one there are certain gags that do fall short. Oh yeah, whoever criticised the plot, come on. This is Scary Movie for Christ sake. It doesn't need a plot, just needs to be funny. Yeah, like I'm going to read about this movie and go, hmmm, I wonder if the plot is good.
-
...scary how slapdash this name-only sequel looked! But that didn't stop me from having a pretty good time watching this thing! The audience I saw SM2 with laughed, chuckled, ewwwed, and groaned, all in the right places. I got exactly what I wanted: The cute-as-a-button Anna Faris, and an Exorcist spoof. Everything else was gravy.
-
I would like to defend my criticism of Scary Movie 2's plot....or lack there of. Many people are saying that a plot in this type of movie isn't important....just that it is funny. While I do agree that plot takes a back seat to the comedic material in these kinds of movie.....no matter how you look at it....ALL MOVIES NEED A PLOT! There shouldn't be characters running around aimlessly or scenes/anectdotes that don't accentuate one another. If you take away the linear structure of a movie then you create chaos. By the end of Scary Movie 2 nothing is resolved. It plays more like an episode of Mad TV than a feature length motion picture. Sure it's funny at times....but it's overall enjoyment level is hindered by that fact that you'll probably walk out of the theater scratching your head trying to figure out just what the point was.

in fact I thought it was funny and entertaining. Now I will admit that some of the jokes fell flat, but overall I liked it, and to me it wasn't to far from the first one. The biggest problem I had with the movie was Tory Spelling. Her character served no purpose, and I honestly don't understand why they thought that was funny, because in the theater I was in nobody laughed at her parts, and to me all her scenes were just plain flat it was the biggest disappointment of the film. The fight with the cat was pretty funny, and worth the price of admission alone. Chris Elliot was funny to me, as well as the guy in the wheelchair, and can someone tell me what else he's been in because he looks so familar to me. Overall SM2 was light on plot, but seemed to be skit after skit combined to make a movie, which was pretty weak if you want to get technical about it, but a lot of it was funny, and that was the film's saving grace.******* JFunk: Sm2 made 8.8 mil on the 4th? to me thats pretty good, but lets remember it's rated R, so that cuts out a chunk of it's audience, and at the theater I was at they were really enforcing the policy and turning a lot of teens away. I think SM2 will make at the least 50-60 mil opening weekend, but I think Cats and Dogs will be number one, and that's because of it's PG rating.. Both movies had a lot of patronage at the theater I went to. I think Cats and Dogs will be no 1, SM2 no 2, AI no 3, and Kiss of the Dragon at 4 for the weekend. Oh yeah I saw Kiss of the Dragon, and it was pretty good. The fight scenes were awesome and the best work LI has done in the films that I've seen him in, which were RMD, Black Mask, and Lethal Weapon 4.

I agree with a lot of your post on SM2. Tori Spelling and Tim Curry's characters seem to disappear altogether and then just show up. And no I didn't even catch Tory's characters name, was it even said? I'm sure it was, but I didn't catch it. I thought I was the only one that noticed that Tim Curry was vastly underused. I wish a lot more people would see that this guy is a good actor, and for some reason he always seem to be stuck in comedies, and not the best ones I might add. My mom said that she seem him in a film and the character was very serious ,and he was really good. Yeah the sequal did come out rather quickly, and I agree that they should have waited longer so the story could have been developed more. In my opinion sequals should have at the least 2 years apart from one another, unless they are going the way of LOTR or The Matrix in which the scripts are written together, and are broken off into continuations, but that's just my opinion.

Why? Maybe because the first could've broke the Wayans career so they had to make each joke click. The second film is a hodge podge of unWayans proportions and actors. Chris Eliot? Tim Curry? Tim FUCKING Curry? All funny people but a complete different type of comedy than we'd expect.
Here's how the Wayans make a joke. First, it has to be sexual, drug related, taboo or flatuence induced. Nothing wrong with that, they hit hard with "I'm Gonna Get You Sucka" and a myriad of other films.
Second, it has to build up. Something is hinted at (Crackhead walking down street asking for directions), something funny is said (I'LL SUCK YO DICK!) then either a preposterous visual appears on screen or something out of the ordinary occurs (zips up pants and points directions).
Third, the jokes are making fun of youth and/or culture. IGGU SUCKA, SM1, DBAMenace all were far better films.
This film is in a haunted house with middle aged white people trying to upstage what works. Tim Curry is a pervert, what a stretch. A man with a deformed hand practically begs for Get A Life reruns to be aired. A man in a wheelchair gets 60 percent of screen time as opposed to some of the younger cast. Buddy's jokes are wasted because he never hinted at them (friends you know, play around and play jokes), had someone reply w/ a funny comment (ONE TIME I WASN'T LOOKING AND HE SHOVED A BROOMSTICK UP MY ASS) and then the payoff (OPEN CHEST!). No hint, no pay off.
This film isn't necessarily a mess as it is a Wayans experiment in joke diversification. Well, the litmus paper came back and it wasn't as funny as the first time. -
In Case anyone's interested in the Cats and Dogs/Scary Movie 2 face off here's another box office update for Thursday the 5th...Scary Movie 2 jumped up to #1 with 5.3 million, and Cats and Dogs dropped to #2 with 5.0 million, heading into Friday both movies had just over 14 million total and are almost dead even. I paid in excess of 25 dollars to see the new Harry Potter (Cats and Dogs) and the Jay and Silent Bob trailers.
O.k., I've watched all four seasons of Mr. Show and numerous airings of Get a Life and Cabin Boy........so who decided Chris Elliot and David Cross are funny?
And why would you have Tim Curry in the movie and not parody The Rocky Horror picture show?
The only person in the theater that laughed at this movie had questionable mental facilities. I'm really worried that so many people found this funny.... -

Proof positive that Harvey and Bob Weinstein are greed-maddened

The first was so good they coulda had a franchise...if they just took their time. They should've used the opportunity to parody all the high-school romantic-comedy shite that has been the flip side of the teen genre; imagine if they tackled the CAN'T HARDLY WAIT universe in the same grotesque style as the first SCARY MOVIE. Instead, the movie is a series of dumb parodies of every horror movie every made. It's so cheaply shot it looks like a porn movie. It'll die in a week, and just you wait, SCARY MOVIE 3 will have none of this cast and go straight to video. You stupid fucks. In the words of Joe Pesci in Casino: "We had it all...and in the end... we fucked it AAAAALL up."

The fact that someone found it a good idea to make a sequel to Scary Movie is appaling to me. I don't think I laughed once at the first one. Now, I didn't know about the Beetlejuice thing so now I am a little interested but dammit, how many fucking blowjob jokes can you put in a movie?? I mean, I like head as much as the next guy but of all the ones Ive had I dont ever remember one that resulted in a humorous experience. The jokes in the movie are so childish only a person with an IQ of about ... ok lets say 90 would find them funny. Now, Robin Hood:Men in Tights, that was a funny spoof movie. You know why? Because the jokes were clever and well thought-out. Not everything revolved around sex and pot. The writers of this movie who appear to be in elementary need to understand that thing that are funny when you are talking to your buddies in the locker room lose their humor when written into a script. How many of us guys here have joked about taking a chainsaw or a machete to a jungle of the opposite sexes pubic hair? Hilarious when you are involved in a conversation, but rediculous when trying to make it into a scene. To me, Scary Movie can only be enjoyed with a large group of friends who are all drunk... and 16... and half asleep. I can only pray that they don't try to make this moronic movie into a trilogy. You know, Wayans, you guys could at least try to parody GOOD movies. Hallow Man? Who saw that?? Okay, before I go, I will say one good thing about the Wayans, as much as it pains me to. Go see Requiem for a Dream. Marlon is damn good in it.
Scary Movie sux -
I thought it was great. I laughed so much I couldn't believe some of the crap they pulled. The Exorcist scenes were classic and that girl who plays cindy is just insane. I mean there was some jokes that were in the first, but that added to it. The clown under the bed was wonderful. It was funny, hands down. Hell if you don't want to laugh, go see AI. I loved AI but the total was soooo somber that I need this after several days of thinking of AI. I am going to see this film again. and again and again. ;)
