Will Bruce Campbell be PITFALL HARRY' Probably not, But Click Anyway You Primate!

Hey folks, Harry here... PITFALL HARRY was my all time favorite Atari 2600 game... the character was named Harry, and I used to jump on gator heads and swing over sandtraps and leap over scorpions and climb up ladders and it ruled man, I loved that game, I was a god on that game, It was the greatest thing, till vaseline... But a movie? If BRUCE CAMPBELL were to play Pitfall Harry, the gods that rule above would shower gold upon the producer that made that happen. Bruce Campbell as PITFALL HARRY would be the greatest thing ever in all the happily ever after stories... But it'll never happen, because Hollywood sucks that way and we never get something that cool. Sigh... Bruce playing Cleveland in a sequel to WADERS OF THE LOST PARK though... that'd be a real beaut!

Hi Harry! Mr No Name here in Florida

I'm an employee at the Universal Studios movie lot when I came across a memo containing some interesting news...plans are on the go ahead to begin making a movie based on the Pitfall video game. Since the success of the Pitfall 3D game a couple years back they've been in discussions to bring the charactor and lush jungle settings to life. It's only in the script stage right now but it's something we could very well be seeing sometime in the future. A couple names mentioned for this project are Ben Affleck and Bruce Campbell. Since Campbell was so good on the P3D game and considering his long and respected history with the Evil Dead movies he'd be great for the live action role of Pitfall Harry. Keep in mind that these are just 'wish list' picks from the studio.

Anyway, Harry, there's my scoop for you. Could this be the next 'Tomb Raider', which is 'Raiding' the box office right now? We shall see!

    by Rowlf_the_Dog

Bruce would be a great choice. He can very easily pull off a cocky yet clueless protagonist. If the flick caters to his strengths this could be a real break through for him.

    Good actors for game characters

    by All-ighty Ollar

Angelina was perfect for Ms. Croft. Although the movie kind of stunk, the Mario bros. actors were OK. Here are some characters I'd like to see in movie someday: Charlie Sheen as Gordon Freeman from Half-life. Dolph Lungren(not sure on the spelling) as Duke Nukem(probably might be a bad movie) Sam Jackson, Val Kilmer, and (your suggestion) as the Heroes from the first Diablo (although I know that they have Vin Diesel cast in this, not sure who, though) Any more characters you can think of would be cool.

    by Squashua

Tomb Raider, The Mummy, GET OFF THE KICK it's over. Pitfall sucked anyway - jumping over crocodiles- there was no real ending to the game, time had to run out. No levels. What bulsh. Pitfall II was at least interesting - for the Commodore. I bet Harry's dad invented the Commodore.

    Pitfall? Is Hollywood in trouble?

    by Puddleglum

I enjoyed playing Pitfall when I was a kid and yeah, OK- so I used to jump over sticks and cracks in the road on the walk home from school pretending I was Pitfall Harry. But I mean, I know Hollywood's ideas are getting to be stale and tritely rely on already existing ideas that have previously faded from public memory as a whole, but it seems like this whole "video game to major motion picture" fetish is getting out of control. Can anyone even list the myriad of projects like that on the slates of the studios? I mean I know the studios probably think that they already have a market for these films (i.e. all the people who play the games), but i'm pretty sure that any day we'll hear a scoop about "Pac-Man: the movie", only done in Shrek style animation or GOD FORBID they find some way to make Pong- like someone suggested- I wouldn't put it past SOMEONE to write a screenplay for it and then try to court major stars to be in it! Bruce Campbell probably would make a great Pitfall Harry, but (again, like someone pointed out already) Jolie made a pretty decent Laura Croft, but it certainly didn't help the rest of the film! Why Hollywood insists on bringing back things that have past their prime in the forefront of the public's mind, I'll never understand. I mean, remakes aside, the old television shows and video games, etc- like dinosaurs and countless others species of animals that have been on this earth in the last fewmillion years- they all had their time and it has PAST. Let these things live on in our minds UNTAINTED and with our fond memories attached to revel in when we talk about it. I just don't wanna have to say to someone in a couple of years from now, "Oh man, I LOVED playing Pitfall when I was a kid. Yeah, Harry rocked, etc- but what was up with that movie? It just BLEW!" Please, I don't want to have to start ending my sentences with phrases like that that stain such cool artifacts of mine, and others' memories past.:)

    Video games and movies...

    by rabid_republican

*Sigh* As much as I like the arcade and early home hits of the 80's, they remain better off digitized, then murdered on celluloid. Whereas I'd like to see Campbell get work as much as the next guy, he could do better than this. I like many a fanboy before me, have been sucked haplessly into the Hollywood marketing scheme that is the video game translation, the examples of which are no doubt fresh in your minds like some nightmare ("Street Fighter" anyone?) There have already been some rather humourous suggestions (or at least I hope the suits wouldn't take us seriously...please god, don't take these seriously). Here's mine: "Joust", The Movie: Yes, "Joust", starring Heath Ledger(A Knight's Tale) and Richard Gere (First Knight), each reprising his mediocre medieval role from their respective mediocre medieval films, riding the backs of giantic CGI birds for two hours. Sure to lay the proverbial egg. I shall ponder the script potential while I watch some old animated "Pac-Man" episodes on BetaMax.

I've got it! Burgertime the movie!!!

    by Han Ol' Buddy

Yeah! You could get Barry Sonnenfeld to direct, have Bob Hoskins play the chef and have him running up and down ladders, escaping giant frankfurters, pickles and fried eggs, while trying to create giant burgers. Sweet! OK, that would suck, BIG TIME! But seriously, Pitfall is one of my favorite games from when I was a kid. Many a day, I stayed inside and tried to finish those games Pitfall 1 and 2. I even did the ultimate geek thing and took the photo of the screen after I beat the games and sent away for my official Pitfall Harry patch. I think I still have them around somewhere. And I love Bruce Campbell as well. I think he should play Duke Nukem. Didn't they cob all of his lines from Evil Dead anyway? But, I think that 2 hours of someone jumping on gator heads, ducking bats, swinging on vines and picking up bars of gold/silver/platinum would be lame, very lame. If they want to do a movie, they should think about doing Spy Hunter. Now, that's a decent enough plot. Cool cars, gangsters, speedboats, oil slicks, etc. Nobody's ever been able to compete with Bond. Execept Austin Powers that is. Later.

    by superninja

SUCK! Pitfall was a fun game, but it's an Indy rip-off, more blatant than Tomb Raider - hell, at least Tomb Raider has a concept. I guess they could use it to make fun of the Indy films. That would be preferable to trying to mimic them outright. And NO BEN AFFLECK. I just saw Pearl Harbor this weekend (for free, not into lining Bay's pockets), and Affleck continues to demonstrate that he is no leading man. I like the kid, but Bruce Campbell is a better choice.

    Atari memories...

    by WillardEisenbaum

When I was a kid, my best friend's little brother gradually figured out that he was a homosexual -- not that there's anything wrong with that -- first by running around with a gold boat-rope and a blue handtowel belted to his head, dressed as Wonder Woman -- and ultimately by greasing up the old Atari joystick and sticking it up his ass. Eventually he found his mom's vibrator and the rest is history. Luckily he wrote about all this in his diary, and my buddy and I would laugh about it over at my house -- which is where we had to go to play an Atari that hadn't been jammed up anybody's ass.

  • Just for typing the above sentence, a person should be shot in the head. But anyway, the video game-movie I'm waiting for is "Kool Aid Man: The Movie!" Does anybody remember the "Kool Aid" Intellivision game, where you had to go all around the house trying to find the ingredients to everybody's favorite juicy drink? Man, that advertising scheme was about as subtle as being clocked in the face with a wooden board.

Castlevania would make a kickass movie...

    by Munko

For those of you who don't know it's a action game where you go around Dracula's castle and cut shit up. There are tons of monsters and cool stuff, plus the bad guy is Dracula. So far there have been like 8 games in this videogame series. Christopher Walken could play a good Dracula. Other good ones that I would have in mind are Skies of Arcadia (a Sega RPG) Xenogears (a Square RPG) and Chrono Cross (a Square RPG). But anywho I really am not that big of fan of Pitfall except for Pitfall The Mayan Adventure...which was an excellent game:) But right now the only game movie I'm really looking foward to is Final Fantasy...

The Tony Hawk Movie would be...

    by JLondon78

Gleaming the Cube 2 and would have Christian Slater's character grown up and workin' as a detective for a corrupt police department. He's frustrated about the PD's complacency with the Triad's illegal shipments so he gets his old buddy Tony Hawk (who's now a MANAGER at the Pizza Hut or Domino's or whatever it was he worked for in Gleaming 1) to help him investigate using his skateboarding ways. It'd be awesome. Especially with cheesy Jackie Chan-ish fight scenes using the skateboard tricks and shit. And the one sheet would have Slater and Hawk back to back on an LA street, Slater with a police pistol and Hawk with a skateboard... yeah... straight to video... I'd watch it... then again, I'm still hoping Van Damme's The Order gets picked up for distribution so I can laugh my ass off! Trash Cinema Forever...

And then of course the magic of CGI would bring the giant pickles and fries and shit from the game to life on the big screen! As for casting, hmm I don`t know, I like the suggestion of Bob Hoskins. I swear I laughed out loud at the thought of Hoskins. Or hell, this is HOLLYWOOD we`re talking about here, folks! They can just get any superstar and use a "Nutty Professor"-like fat suit! Hell, they could get Ben Affleck.

The lead role will be played by Ben Affleck with his customary flair. Director Sam Raimi later insists that no other actor could have possibly portrayed the open-mouthed bug-eyed hero as well as Ben. The epitome of a frog crossing the road. Not since Dogma have we see such a performance."

Dolph plays dead-pan great, and thats just what the role calls for. With a good script and a hard R - to avoid the mangling of another hardass (Judge Dred, Spawn, etc...) - the movie could really rock. by lostoptimist

It played out like it was conceived by a bunch of former "Cracked" and "CarToon" magazine writers on an epic LSD binge. It was incoherent, had a bad guy that wore a face mask pretty similar to the one Hannibal Lector would sport in SOTL (predating it by something like 10 years), and had Pac-Man eating Blinky and the crew of 'ghosts' almost constantly. It was one of the great animated wonders of the early 80's along with the gonzo "The Littles".

Horrifyingly enough, there WAS a Pong movie treatment floating around at one point in the late 80's. Hopefully the thing will stay buried in whatever demonic ark it originated-from in the first place.

Many games could be turned into good movies. Examples: "Phantasy Star". "Journey to Silius". "Strider". "Shinobi". "Ninja Gaiden". "E-SWAT". "Castlevania". "Zelda". "Zero Tolerance". "Star Fox". ***** Why? Because these games have a good story, or at least have interesting characters and ideas with potential to be used in a good story. ***** Unlike "Quake", which is a pretty good game, but has no story. ***** Or "Tomb Raider", which is a mediocre game with a mediocre story, which could only turn into a mediocre movie. ***** Thus far (while "Final Fantasy" isn't done), there is only one really good movie based on a videogame: the 1st "Mortal Kombat" (the sequels sucked shit). ***** I kinda liked the animated versions of "Fatal Fury" and "Samurai Shodown", too.
