A.I. Soundtrack Track Listings... Spoilers!!!

Published at:  Jun 04, 2001 7:53:42 PM CDT

Hey folks, Harry here with the lovely Alexandra DuPont with a oh so juicy bit of knowledge about A.I.'s score... If you don't want to read the track listings run away... but there is only one that seems to point to serious spoiler activity and I deleted it... if you must know, follow the link Alexandra provides....

Gentlemen: I thought you might be interested in
knowing that the always-excellent John Williams fan
site JWFan.net has posted the track listings for the
"A.I." soundtrack CD. Here's the direct link:

JWFAN.NET

And here are the track listings and known times, which
are (for once on a John Williams CD) delightfully
vague:

* Track length not available

*****

There are a few of matters of note here, if I may be
so bold as to speculate:

(1) IF this is the actual track listing, which I
believe it is, this is an astonishingly short CD --
quite possibly under 30 minutes -- which points to a
quieter approach for Spielberg or, more likely, the
use of untold amounts of source music (along the lines
of Ministry). Reports from the sound stage said that
over two hours of music had been recorded, so I for
one am a bit perplexed. Williams has said in recent
interviews that some old standards and waltzes were
mined to provide music for Jude Law's Gigolo Joe
character -- who is rumored to participate in some
sort of song-and-dance number during the film.

(2) I suspect the CD will be "padded" out with tracks
by Ministry and other artists. It's odd at this point
that there's no music from the Flesh Fair.

(3) The "Blue Fairy" sequence, if you don't mind
having a bit of the film spoiled for you, plays into
something from the Kubrick scriptment(s): At one point
David, obsessed with the Pinocchio myth, heads out to
a now-submerged carnival and finds a Blue Fairy
statue, which has some unfortunate shades of "Big," if
you ask me, but let's see how it plays.

(4) Does the short CD point to some interactive
material on the CD tying in with the Evan Chan game?
Will there be separate music and score CDs? Time will
tell, and soon: The disc streets on June 19.

I will leave it to finer minds than mine own as to
what "plot points" the CD is touching upon, or whether
said disc is in chronological order....

Warmest,

Alexandra DuPont.

    Interesting...

I, personally, am not a huge Williams fan. But it'll be fun to see whether or not Johnny sticks to his tried-and-true Spielburgian scoring or tries something innovative.

    Spoilers, not really

    by superman5150

I looked at the link, and if the deleted track name is a spoiler, I'm still stumped. I for one, go into a movie with no thoughts of previous knowledge. Even if I know the ending, I turn off the part of my brains that knows the ending, so in the end, I can still have some sort of surprise. I don't think that I will see A.I. knowing of spoilers. I would still see it and be amazed, even if I wrote the damn thing myself.

    Ministry song on A.I Soundtrack

    by fennesz

The Ministry song that appears on the A.I Soundtrack, is called "What About Us". It does not seem to appear amongst the titles that have been released for some strange reason. Hard to believe the band worked with someone like Spielberg. Wonder if they exchanged drug stories. Do you think Haley Osment is now a big fan???

    NNNOOOOO!!!

    by ewem

Damn it, the first thing I have to wonder: Was this score recorded here in the States? If it was, then that explains the short score album. The re-use fees are high.
Secondly, jeez, for a movie like this and a Williams/Spielberg score is going to get short changed? Say it ain't so! I am really looking forward to seeing this movie now that Spielberg has decided to go back to making entertainment instead of trying to be a preacher to us. I can't wait to see what Williams did for this film and I am going to be pissed as hell if the score is amazing and there are only thirty minutes of a two hour score on the album. Hopefully there will be a second, full score album if nothing else.

    Worried about Ministry

    by rwelch

Dark Side of the Spoon was a decent album, better than Filth Pig, but a car accident was better than that album. There have been two Lard albums recently. Pure Chewing Satisfaction, and recently an ep called 70's Rock Must Die. Very hilarious hearing Jello and Al performing like Kiss for that song.

    Paul hasn't left Ministry

    by doug.diggler

Check out the news section at www.prongs.org/ministry/ Granted, who knows with Uncle Al, but I'm sure Paul's still present. Also, from what I understand, the reason they left the Ozzfest tour (they were actually going to be the Second Stage headliners) was because most of the backing band left (and formed Marz, I believe), and Al didn't like the replacements. That may not be exactly correct, and to be honest, the whole things sounded odd. Still, a visit to the aforementioned page should give a better version of the story. Check the 2000 news, somewhere around late May and early June (I think).

    More bad news for Ministry

    by rwelch

The latest issue of Alternative Press states that Warner Brothers/Sire Records dropped Ministry with one album left on their contract. They also squashed the plans that Mike patton had for his label Ipecac Records, to put out three live Ministry cds.

Wait...you mean I`m NOT the only one who still remembers Minist

    by elgyn6655321

"Dark Side of the Spoon" was alright - it`s kinda like they went back to the old "Psalm 69" style because they didn`t know what else to do. BTW - I loved "FilthPig". I think it`s Ministry`s BEST album - song-wise. I`m not joking. Except for the middle part of the album, it has the most well-written songs of any Ministry record.

    Sleazy G

    by elgyn6655321

Thanks for the info dude. So I take it the new single sounds like "Dark Side of the Spoon"? Or is it slightly different or something? BTW, "Supernaut" was awesome, and there`s actually two different versions - one with Trent on vocals, and another with Al on vocals. They actually sound pretty much the same. Anyways, I have a little "Ministry Theory" for you: after "Psalm 69" was a big success, Al & Paul felt pretty good about themselves. They tried to branch out a little and try something different - with "FilthPig". It was an abyssmal failure. So then they tried to go back to their 'old style' with "Dark Side..." - but problem is, it sounded TOO MUCH like their old stuff, so nobody cared.

    Pretty sad

    by elgyn6655321

The very last thing you said in your last post (about the xerox copies) is pretty much how I felt about "Dark Side..." as a whole. I guess it looks like `ol Al has just run out of ideas. Just out of curiosty, how about KMFDM - or as they`re known now, 'mdfmk'. They`ve been around forever (at least the early 80`s or so) and IMO, they`re not only still good, but they seem to get noticably better with every album. Later
