New A.I. Theatrical Trailer Online!!!

Published at:  May 22, 2001 7:41:03 PM CDT

Hey folks, Harry here with a link to send you to the new theatrical trailer for A.I. that was showing before SHREK this weekend. The trailer is basically the same as the Television Commercials that you've seen online here at AICN, only during the final credits, the letters don't glow red (the important message ones...); this time they sparkle and spell:

Warn Her

Jeanine Salla

Evan Died Sinning

Now, unfortunately the trailer's digitized quality isn't up to the Apple Quicktime trailer page crystal clarity, so I can't make out what the phone number slits in the end letters mark out... sigh... but it might be that same ol' Jeanine Salla number we know... and perhaps we're supposed to call and warn her that Evan Died Sinning... Hmmmmm... off to Cloudmakers...

    by specter

LOL, oh well, as for what they mean, well, I work for Countingdown and they don't even tell us! LOL
But anyways, I guess it doesn't matter. It's still a LOT of fun.. if not intriguing to say the least. I mean, I am looking forward to this and LOTR and also Matrix 2 and 3 (and even run my own site on the later at matrixfans.net) but anywho, I am REALLY intrigued by all of the secret stuff happening... I wish Star Wars was this secretive. I wouldn't know it was gonna rock!

    by tenguman

This is the exact same thing they show on tv. Are you sure this is supposed to be a theatrical trailer? Hmm... oh well. At least they aren't treating this like some of those other movie trailers out there that basically give us a cliff's notes version of the movie. Man am I sick of that.

i dont smell desperation but i smell a retard. see, they do promotional stuff for movies, put out teasers and trailers, so that people actually know the film exists and build up an interest in seeing it. good movie, bad movie, they still do promotion. spielbergs name on the film means no one ever gets desperate. as for it being tripe, maybe. just look at the buffy vampire thingy talkback and see people proclaiming how that show made them cry to see how much people love tripe. aint NObody at dreamworks worried about AI.

    Eh, Not Bad.

    by cowblaster

Though, I did like the teaser a whole lot better. It was more mysterious and eerie. This trailer was just bland. Oh, well. Boy, I sure do wish I was the very first person to post on this here Talkback, and forever mark such a historic occasion by posting "FIRST!" in my subject line. But, now I'll just have to settle for my mundane existance once again. . . By the way, Harry. What's the deal with the white background? It's been here for a month now and it's just bugging the hell outta me. I mean, exactly what is that supposed to be? A picture of some kind? I don't get it.

I see no difference between the tv spot one

    by marlborogreens

but that doesn't mean this one can't suffice to be a theatrical trailer. It looks good and high-tech. Hope all this eye candy matches well with an artistically written plot and blends flawlessly with a tale that showcases a variety of different human conditions. Otherwise, I will have to throw this one out of my list when it comes time to start building my dvd collection.

Sentimental : is that what kubrick wanted?

    by antoniusbloc

Talk about desperate, how about the constant reference to Kubrick and how having Spielberg direct is exactly what he would have wanted. Well, i wonder about that...so they had a secret friendship, and they were really close friends. So what? how do you go from that to kubrick would have wanted him to direct his never finished project. From what i've read, Kubrick wanted it to be a futuristic fantasy and actually having the title Pinnochio, and he emphasized fantasy.(someone like Terry Gilliam or Tim Burton would have been more suited)He literally wanted it to be a modern day story of Pinnochio. I don't know if kubrick would agree with the realistic blade runner look. No, spielberg has made this his own, it appears, and like some of his other movies, it will entertain by appealing to our sentiment. Kubrick's idea at least sounded much more intersting with more potential for deep symbolic meaning. that is why i think he never finished it, he is a victim of his own belief in the modern philosophy, as reflected in his films. He knew a realistic account,as AI seems to be, would be unintersting without a fantasy or supernatural angle to it. It's just such a big leap for a premise of a story...the first boy programmed to love. i'm willing to bet they don't go into a scientific explanation of that. A modern day pinnochio...whoop tee doo! Is the story of android wanting to become human so profound? remember how boring that story line was in the next generation Star Trek, and how Data paled in comparison to the old school, and much more interesting character, Mr. Spock coming from a Vulcan culture that was both logical and mysteriously mystical. I think these sci fi pinnochio stories end up boring because those who create them start with the premise that we are simply biological computers, and that technology someday can duplicate that intelligence. The modern mind dismisses the platonic idea of the mind, which has evolved into the judeo christian idea of the soul. Artificial intelligence therefore becomes nothing but a physical duplication of how the biological brain works, along with our physical human features. so, whoever said sappy or sentimental in an earlier post had it right on the money. the only difference therefore lies in emotion, so the movie will become dependant on sentimintality to evoke interest, which will make for probably an entertaining, but shallow and forgetful film.

Spielberg is a genius...A.I. will deliver.

    by arjaybee

Spielberg films are like pizza or sex, even when they're bad, they're good and when they're good, they're fantastic!
All of the elements are there for this to be one of those jewels in the Spielberg crown of classics. Add the fact that this is his return to sci-fi, Kubrick, and his first writer/director combo since "Close Encounters" and A.I. looks like a winner to me.
I'm sure that no matter what he does the fanboy elitest snobs will rip on this movie ("E.T." would have got trashed by AICN: Talkback) but it won't matter. If A.I. can come anywhere near the awe-inspiring hights of CE3K, then I for one will thank Spielberg again for raising the goosebumps and delivering another summer movie to remember.

does not have a Flawless record.
Hook was a piece of crap, as was the lost world.
That the king of slush himself, robin williams,is narrating this film does not bode well...

    by captain katanga

Why dont you wait until you've seen more than 30 seconds of the film before you tell the rest of us exactly how bad or sentimental its going to be??? You havent got a clue, because you haven't seen it.

Spielberg KNOWS that he has to make a film that lives up to Kubrick, and he's one of the smartest directors around...he is not going to make another Hook, believe me. I think this film will be a lot more surprising and edgy than some of you are expecting.

    Looking good

    by cloaca

I happen to think that AI looks pretty interesting. It's a movie, and from the looks of it is a well directed, emotional one. I for one am not interested in seeing a true-to-concept movie about Artificial Intelligence. I would rather read about it. Instead, I look forward to sitting back and watching a good story unfold.

THIS IS NOT THE SAME TRAILER AS I SAW IN THE THEATER

    by theextra

In the theater the trailer showed one part where David walks through a doorway (nighttime?) and he has a robotic toy TeddyBear walking next to him. The trailer at this link doesn't have it...

No Way Kubrick intended Spielberg to direct

    by sternwood

Kubrick would never have been willing to let someone else direct a project of his. Hell, he barely let anyone else operate the camera. Great though he was, he was a control freak. I'll never believe the cover that he intended Spielberg to direct. It's bull.

I was playing with the Chatbot on the A.I. website, and asked it who killed Evan. "Sibling not yet born," it replied. So I asked why..."Reductionism". Has anyone else noticed this??

    by eviltwin2

I've already seen more than I wanted to before the movie is released. I'm not watching television again until after the movie is released, because it looks like the plan is to release 30 seconds of the movie every four days.

    I hope you realize...

    by pioneeer

A lot of you guys are saying that you don't think it's going to be any good because it looks all sappy and pinochio-esque. FYI- this was kubrik's film, and it still will be at heart. This movie is going to be dark and sexual. For crying out loud, Jude Law's character is named giggiolo joe! He's a sexbot! Don't you people realize this is still kubrik's film? Since when has kubrik ever made something sappy and light? Be prepared to be surprised.
This movie is going to be incredible. The internet marketing campaign behind it is the most intruiging, interesting and exciting to date.

By the way, that's Ben Kingsley's voice in the intro.
