When I saw Pearl Harbor trailer, a part of me wanted the story to be about the new LOTR trailer that would be released the same week as Pearl Harbor. Aw well. Guess I will have to go watch Pearl Harbor on opening day.

As for that Japanese internment camps comment, I wonder if Pearl Harbor will show the Japanese prison and torture camps. At least the Nazis had an agenda most of the time. Th Japanese conducted experiments and torture just for FUN.

Does Pearl Harbor mention the atrocities Japan committed during their invasion of China? I don't think so. Can we all just agree to this: BOTH America and Japan comitted atrocities of the worst kind in WWII. We had no right to nuke them and throw American citizens with Japanese blood in internment camps, and they had no right to slaughter innocent Chinese just so they could glorify themselves. Yes, America is always glorified in its war movies (except Vietnam War flicks). No one has the guts to make a movie about what it was really like. The trailer is very cool, but I'm skipping out of Pearl Harbor because I don't need a Titanic/Saving Private Ryan propaganda flick shoved down my throat. I'll probably watch the original Godzilla, the great nuclear allegory, again.

Jesus Christ, why do americans always try to make themselves out to be the ONLY country in the world that matters? the reason why they're the powerful nation that they are right now is because while EVERY OTHER country was out fighting Hitler in WWII, the americans were sitting on their fucking asses doing jack shit. They came into the war AFTER everyone else had gotten their asses kicked (including Hitler) and went and finished him off and ended up taking ALL the credit. I wouldn't mind seeing this movie, but then again, i can save myself a lot of time waiting and money and just rent Independence Day or Saving Private Ryan and get the same nauxious feeling.

I'd love to see movies about the second great war made by britain and france and italy and japan, but Das Boot is one of the few examples out there, All quiet on the western front is a great book and film about WW1, Fuck it, I'm just sick of people bashing every one else, It just seems to me that Americans seem to have more pride in themselves a s a whole, until more films like this one come out in other parts of the world we'll just have to deal with what is put out there, if you don't want to see it, fine, but Don't shit on my home country, I don't shit on yours, thank you for reading this, maybe there are more like minded people out there... -
If this movie is horrible, which I suspect it is, then we should be mad. And that's because the story of Pearl Harbor should be made into a movie for the ages - it deserves to be. It's much more entertaining if you watch it and pretend all the dialogue is from a gay porno. It makes that crap much more fun to watch. "Jam it in the hole!" "Ram the shaft!" "Deeper!" OK, I'm not sure if those are exact lines from the movie, but they're pretty damn close.

I had a great uncle who was at Pearl Harbor. When we were kids he told us the story. He wanted to make sure we would remember that without vigilance you are never truly safe. As for dropping the bomb. Any student of WW2 knows that Japan was fully prepared to fight house to house. They were training the women and the kids for the coming invasion. We would have lost a hundred thousand men. So what if we killed a quarter million. I'd rather have seen them lose 250,000 than us lose a single man. Their imperialism started the fight, our weaponmastery ended it.
And for whoever said that everyone was whipped before the US entered the war in Europe? All I have to say is put down the crackpipe and stand away from the keyboard. The Europeans were barely holding their own. It was American B-17s bombing the everloving shit outta the Nazi's that brought down the Third Reich. They couldn't make a ball bearing when we were done with them. -
First off, history is DEFINATELY not your strong point! We (stupid Americans) saved your ass and just about every other European country...to be honest, Euro trash can't be trusted, look at history! Fact is, after kicking Hitlers ass, we should have finished off the Russians, then went back conqueered the rest of Europe! But I guess the EU is doing a fine job of that! : )
By the way, where's the debt you STILL owe us from re-building your city's?

I mean, think about it really this movie has been made before. How the US government secretly allowed themselves to be attacked so that national pride could turn the tides in the war. I forget the name of the movie but this movie has been done before. It's mainly going to be a love story like someone said above with the flying action to spice it up. What is going to be great about it is to see true patriotism on America's side but also as well as Japan's side. This movie I don't believe will be anything about rehashing how everyone hated each other during those times but rather the sense of urgency and why the japs decided to friggin come to our land and kill ppl in the first place!

Second, Harry, this trailer has been up for a while - I got it from ComingSoon.net a while ago. Third, we all know that Bay can't direct for shit, and that giving him a weighty historical piece like this is just fucking stupid. Fourth, get a copy of Newsweek. It has an interesting couple of articles related to Pearl Harbor and this turd of a film. And it has a review of the film. Basically the reviewer thinks that the love story is shitty, the action is great, and Bay completely fucked up developing the story, the characters, or any sense of emotion. And yes, there is a load of bullshit flag waving. Folks, THIS is not the film to use when you're arguing that Americans a jingoistic or not. Bay just loves waving flags. That's all. I've heard Saving Ryan's Privates and Poontang mentioned alot on this talkback. Those are worthwhile American war films. Pearl Harbor, however, is just shit.

Right then, "limey" speaking, but I really don't give a shit about all that. I don't care a flying fuck about who saved who or who misrepresents who in the movies, but FOR FUCKS SAKE along with the... I would say majority but I've got to pause there... LARGE NUMBER of extremely clever and perfectly reasonable Americans there are a cancerous bunch of illiterate products of the underfunded American school system who really do believe everything they see on TV and the movies as God's given truth.
Those are the sort of people that piss off foreigners with their uninformed presumptions, just as uninformed Europeans piss you lot off, and those are the sort of people that get confused about histroical detail.
Oh and *you* didn't save anyone. It was your parents or probably grandparents that did all that. You don't see me going round saying *I* was part of the largest Empire the world has ever known just because my ancestors were. Often. So shut up about that.
The Americans came over to Europe and admittedly they helped win the war. Still, without all the Europeans who fought the war for three years I doubt there would be much left to save and it would have been the USA vs. wholly occupied Europe. Plus Africa and Asia. So lets not go pointing fingers either way across the Atlantic. ITS A FUCKING FILM. A jingoistic one of course, but when you're marketing primarily to an American audience... as I've said there are SOME Americans that might cry if the Americans weren't presented as saints. So fair enough.
Lets just watch the film and see, eh?
And I bet if it does outsell LOTR (it won't, but *if* it did) then it'd probably be on the back of the LOTR trailer people go to watch before it! -

I'm sick of the goddamned german film industry making these movies that glorify the German Navy! They don't show any other submarines except Hitler's! DAS BOOT should have been a balanced, fair-minded, thoroughly researched documentary about the economic imbalances and cultural distrust that led to the rise of Hitler instead of the jingoistic propagandistic Riefenstahlian Nazi commercial that it is, dammit! Not to mention U-571, that movie acted as if the Germans were the ONLY ONES to use encoding machines like the Enigma. WRONG!! The japanese did too, dammit! Dammit!!!

I just watched Armageddon again and I realized that Michael Bay can't seem to hold a shot for more than five seconds. He keeps complaining that critics bashed the lack of emotion in his films. Maybe he should learn to hold a shot longer or edit a bit slower. I'm very curious to see if the same goes for Pearl Harbor. Like my sister says "I know its going to be a bad movie but it looks so pretty"

I'd like to thank your reviewer for his/her article on Battle Royale. It was great. In the UK, (I'm English) the film was met with derision and hostility, much to my dismay, b/c I thought it was a really powerful film. I have been searching the Net to find reviews which agreed with my impression of this (awesome!) film, and the article on this site totally summarized my feelings. Thanks for not making me feel like the only guy in the world who appreciated this movie.

I'm not American but I think it's unfair on those US veterens who suffered Pearl Harbour to have an overblown film adapt their experience (which I'm sure was traumatising to an extent). Worst off is that the tragedy of it all will be tamed down to sell to a widest audience, dilluting much of the horror of it. Some might argue that Titanic was PG 13 and that still managed to pull of the right effect (quite perfectly I'll add). But Titanic didn't involve soliders, guns and fighter planes. Just imagine what we'd be getting if Pearl Harbour was rated 15 or 18 (or R, for the US)... Like many have said serious historical subject matters shouldn't be exploited by Hollywood unless the makers are serious about the importance of it, and KEEP IT REAL!

All you hand wringing talk backers wouldn't last a second in some ethnic conflict. Kosovo and Bonsian were like some kind of freaky predatory Mad Max world until we intervended. But it is now a little better becaue the US and our allies have intervened. women aren't being rounded up and raped anymore as a matter of policy. The ethnic clensing has stopped. Why is this relevant to Pearl Harbor? Because that's where it all started. That's the moment when the US truly became of force for good in the world. We'd all be saluting the furher or sending tributes to the emperor if the US had not intervened. First off we slam Pearl Harbor for three reasons. 1. Michael Bay has a long resume of movies that suck ass, so it is fair to assume that his next film will do likewise. 2. His films are overpatriotic to the point of total absurdity. That's okay when it comes to made up shit like armageddon, but when your dealing with real history it's downright offensive. 3. It stars Ben Affleck and Liv Tyler, nuff said.
And as for your little rant on how noble the U.S. is for keeping the world peace, now listen to me and listen good: The U.S. foreign policy is downright FASCIST. Your country polices the world purely in it's own interest. Has the balls you say? Riiiight, I guess that's why you bombed the shit out of Serbia. Actually, it was because you were too CHICKENSHIT to go in with landtroops. You see, you have this thing called a zero casualty policy, which means that you only go to war if you can be sure that no american citizens will be killed. The situation in the balkan is ancient and complex, and the last thing it needed was for some ignorant superpower to come and fuck it up even worse than it already was. Most countries in europe had troops there long before the U.S. who were risking there lives trying to lessen the conflict, not turn it up a few notches. Imagine if you were engaged in war with another country and suddenly a third party steps in out of nowhere and blows one side (maybe you, maybe the other guy) to kingdome come. The list of atrocities the U.S. has commited all over he world is endless. I am NOT anti-american. I like america, have lived there a while and most americans that I've met have been nice people, but that does not change the fact that your foreign policy is FUCKED UP. Wake the fuck up.
