Hey folks, Harry here... the various members of the normal AICN bunch all became such party-goers this Cinco De Mayo weekend that the sheer inebriated state has interfered with any progressive writing for the weekend... However, expect everyone's reports to come slipping in from now till next week some time. Didn't meet anyone at the event that didn't have a good time with it... My review is coming pretty soon... I've been doing some moving into the Geek Headquarters Annex called Mission Concepcion.... this will be further explained at a later date, but for now here are nugget sized looks and Massawyrm's brief review... Enjoy...
Harry,
Mad props on bringing that screening together last night. Probably one of
the coolest things I've ever been a part of. John and Vince made it that
much better with the Q&A at the end. The movie was much more than I
expected. I'm a die-hard Swingers fan, so I had trouble thinking this would
live up to those high expectations. I more than happy to be proved wrong.
Great movie and thanks again for pulling that together.
later,
Garrod
Then here is Chris...
Harry,
I'm sure you are getting hundreds of these emails today, but I had to write and thank you for putting together such a COOL night. The film was great and it was almost a surreal experience meeting Jon and Vince AND Peter! As an aspiring screenwriter, like every other person on the planet, Jon is such a huge inspiration and meeting him really got the creative juices flowing.
Anyway, you wanted comments on the film. I thought it was extremely funny and well put together. My only complaint would be that Vince was almost to damn good. His character was so annoying that at times I could hardly bear to hear his damn voice rattling on and on and on. That said, I wouldn't know what to change about because it was all so damn funny and important to his character.
Thanks again for the cool screening and I look forward to the Bruce Campbell event.
Take care.

And finally here is Massawyrm, who spent most of the evening on his knees in front of me... He's kinda scary that way... Although he travels in lovely company... poor girl, how she tolerates... well, I'll be polite... He's, well, how to say this... Ummm, really cool. Ewwww... I know, anyway, here he is...
Hey Harry, Just recovering from the Great night I had last night and decided to write up a report.
For those that missed The screening on Friday, let me say that you indeed missed out. Made is this summer's surprise hit. Promise. As has been stated before (and I will sum-up here for the sake of brevity) MADE is a film about an amateur boxer, down on his luck, who takes a job from a mysterious Mob boss played hilariously by Peter Falk. Not wanting to leave his best bud Ricky (Vince Vaughn) out of the deal, he vouches for him and off they go to New York under mysterious conditions. Hilarity ensues.
Yes, its a pretty simple framework, but it works. Well. Better than well. Well, to put it exactly, this film is a fun romp that once it gets going, never lets go and keeps you laughing the whole way through. This is the type of film we've been sorely missing the last few years. Its a solid made Indie comedy that uses great acting, dialog and visual parodies to move it. Nary a joke of the dick and fart variety are to be seen. No gross outs. No Pie screwing. Nothing of the like. Just John Favreau and Vince Vaughn doing what they do best: Solid, Hilarious comedy.
The best way to equate this film is not to look at it like SWINGERS 2, although it possesses the same comedic magic that Swingers had and many wink-wink references that aren't overt enough to be trying to ride on the underground success of its predecessor, but rather its more like Reservoir Dogs is to Pulp Fiction. This one is tighter, in my opinion better made, has bigger named stars than Swingers had on its release and is enough like it that you might say to yourself, "This is just like Swingers"; and yet it is a completely different film that covers completely different issues in the same fall down funny comedic manner.
This film is light, fun and pure Favreau-Vaughn magic. A wonderful alternative to this summers money machines (and come on, really, when was the last time you saw a great movie in the summer that wasn't a money driven FX vehicle for $20 million dollar a film actors?) this film will the one that once summers over, and the bitching about whether any good films were released commences, the only people who will say not a one was released will be the ones that didn't bother to see Made. Pencil in a weekend in late July for John Favreau's new movie folks...you won't be disappointed.
One final note for those that missed this event or others like it here in Austin. Although Made sold out both shows, it did not sell out immediately. This is a crime. If you've never attended one of Harry's screenings, do so at your next opportunity. Every one I've had the privilege of attending has been a knock down drag out great time and this was no exception. Favreau and Vaughn were in top form, Yukking it up while milling in the crowd of the after party; always personable and approachable. This screening was quite honestly the best of its kind I ever attended. A great film, a great cast, and a great party. Pure magic. Thanks Harry, John and Vince.
