ONCE UPON A TIME IN MEXICO possible babe!'!'

Published at:  May 03, 2001 4:28:41 AM CDT

Hey folks, Harry here.... I had a spy at an undisclosed company dropped me a line today saying that he saw a pretty damn fine audition test by Eva Mendes for a part in ONCE UPON A TIME IN MEXICO.... the third in director/writer/name-a-job-he's-doing-it Robert Rodriguez's Mariachi Trilogy... The exclamation mark in his Bullets & Burritos (his phrase, not mine) series. The same source said that the film was greenlit today and scheduled to begin filming in two weeks.

Also, I've been getting reports for about 4 days now that various members of Antonio Banderas' siblings and family have been saying that towards the end of May, Antonio will be shooting ONCE UPON A TIME IN MEXICO.

Well, a couple of days ago I called up Robert, we missed connections but he left a message saying that he didn't know if he'd be shooting at the end of May, that he's moving forward as though it is happening, continuing to work on the script, look at actors, etc etc... But that he was off to do some location scouting in MEXICO for the film. But nothing was for certain yet.

WELLL, then I get the info in that first paragraph saying it was greenlit Wednesday for shooting to commence in 2 weeks... AHEM... Well Robert is somewhere in Mexico searching for amazing haciendas, fortresses, palaces, factories, dusty streets, character ridden nooks and crannies of Mexico. Getting inspired to finish polishing his script and move forward, if the fates so decree.

As for Eva Mendes (possibly best known as the Lesbian Boom Operator in URBAN LEGENDS 2: FINAL CUT) auditioning? I bet it's true. This film is going to be far larger in scope, amounts of characters and in production values.... at least if Rodriguez has his way. If I hear anything new, I'll let ya know....

    Big Shoes to Fill

    by tectorgorch

Mr. Rodriguez jumps into a large pair of shoes when he names his film "Once Upon a Time in Mexico". The opening sequence in "Once Upon the Time in the West" is probably one of the greatest examples of pure cinema ever filmed. That said I can't wait to see the flick. I didn't think "Desparado" was all that great. While I loved Cheech Marin and the guys in the bar- I felt that apart from the opening scenes the film didn't really do anything for me. "El Mariachi" felt much more like the Mexico I know and love than the sheen that glared off of the Mexico of "Deparado". I liked "El Mariachi" for that reason. One thing I missed in "Desparado" was the bright blues and other primary colors that splash across Mexico. It's not a country of drab people dressed in Earth tones- its a vibrant place of light and color. I missed that in "Desparado".
"Once Upon a Time in the West" was an expansive film that had much to say about revenge, old age, American Culture, and western films themselves. I hope Mr. Rodriguez plans to cut a bit deeper with the end of this trilogy than he did with the middle.

Robert? I hope your not forgeting something.

    by jak flash 2000

Though I will be honest that Desperado wanst as good as Mariachi and Spy Kids want as good as it was said to be (but good, nethertheless). I dont mean these remarks in an offensive way but an honest way. I am a film critic that is always honest despite who makes the film. Though that doenst mea that I wont eagerly antispate a project. I have to say that this news as well as being quite suuden is also a wonderfull surprise. I have posted so many tims in the past when I heard something about Robert and asked him to do the third film. I thought it would never happen. But it seems to be coming into play. A small note to Robert here. In El Mariachi the film ends with the Mariachi leaving on a motercycle, with a dagger on the front and a dog on the back. Then we go to Desperado. I idnt consider it a re-make but an enhanced sequal. A sequal that was of higher quality and bigger budget than its predecesser. It has never really been officialy classed as anything. But if it is sequal. Then where is the dog, the dagger and the bike? Three gaping plot holes. These can be dalt with by maing this film a prequal or explaining what happened in a flshback. The latter is the better choice. Oh and Robert if you are feeling gutsy why dont you send one of your biggest fans (Thats Me) a script of the third film via e-mail. You have my promise that it wouldnt get into anyone elses hands and that my lips would be seled until it i released ito the cinema. Go on, you know you want to. I am a trustworthy person and I keep my promises. In the meantime check out my review section on www.thakksy.co.uk providing all goes well you might see a Spy Kids review on line by some time tomorow. Ok thats my 2 pence people. A good day to all and to all a good day.

    Jak Flash 2000, holy crap

    by homer jay

Or should I say, Houlee Krapp. I really hope all those spelling errors was just a joke. If not, oh man, get some help.
As for Mendes being too plain...EACH AND EVERY ONE of you would probably be picking your jaws off the floor if you ever met her in person. Reminds me of the "Comic Book Store Guy" on The Simpsons: "How do you feel about 40 year-old virgins who still live at home?" "Comb the Sweet-tarts out of your beard and you got a deal." "Don't try to change me, baby."

I have already apolagised for my errors. More typing errors than spelling errors. Though I will admit I am not the best speller. Still what happened to the dog the bike and the dagger, I mean letter opener.

    Right on T. Gorch

    by mel garga

Once Upon a Time in the West is a badass movie. I had a film teacher play out a couple of scenes in their brilliant entirety only to cut them off right as the scenes were at their climaxes. Are we to take from the title that Rob-Rod is planning some kind of eschewed remake? That would be cool. As for the above pics. Man, it really must suck being a hot female actress. I'm dead serious. They have one big role - usually their first and then they do a couple more forgettable movies before disappearing from radar completely as casting directors look for the next flavor-of-the-month. By the way, this doesn't mean that I feel any kind of sympathy for them. They are easy on the eyes but tend to ruin movies. Look at Driven - yes, the movie blew but it didn't help that the lead girl sucked ass, besides the fact that she looks like a cross-eyed fish who needs sleep. Stick to Maxim and stay out of movies.

    NJC--"hipocrate"?

    by kylerayner

Spelling issues aside, how is Rodriguez a hypocrite? I am not here to defend (I don't care, really, though I enjoyed El Mariachi and From Dusk Til Dawn--for very different reasons), merely to ask for explication. In what way is this filmmaker a hypocrite and why should we boycott his work? If you want others to join in your movement, you have to convince us...

what ever happened to the madman film that he was supposed to be doing with Mike Allred? For some reason it keeps getting bumped for other projects.

    Salma roooooooles

    by daringdragoon

I am soooo happy to see movement the third in the Mariachi triology. I don't know much about this Eva Mendes except she's attractive, but how about getting Salma Hayek to return as Carolina, the role that made her a star? Even if she's busy with her Frida Kahlo pic, surely she could get a day or two off from that to at least do a cameo.

Whatever happened to Quint's interview with Robert Rodriguez? It was never posted as promised on his story about the tour of the Spy Kids set.

    salma is carolina

    by 7881

the real deal is that salma plays opposite antonio, and that eva mendes (if cast) would be opposite george clooney (an fbi agent).

    Trust me.

    Not just a beautiful girl

    by locus

Mendes is not just another hot actress or your stereotypical Latina. She's an actor who just happens to be Latin and a woman, something Hollywood has never had - meaning that she up to any acting challenge and will be damn good at it. How many times have we seen our Hispanic women trying to hard to be Latin? What she's saying is you can't try to be something you already are, you just are so you don't need to prove it to anyone. Have any of you ever heard the way she talks? She's obviously very intelligent and I'm not surprised that she's gotten so much work in so little time. Oh yeah, she's a star alright, she has the magnetism.
