Hey Harry,
About two months ago, I emailed you a scoop about a company that was interested in financing a new Twin Peaks project with Lynch at the helm. Well, as is usually the case in talkback, a lot of folks bitched and moaned that Lynch wasn't interested, that it would never happen, and that 'ol Agent Jeffries was full of crapola......
So, it is with great pleasure that I send you the following article. It originally appeared in a Belgian Magazine called Humo, and was translated by someone over at Twin Peaks Gazette online.

The everlasting series
Exactly ten years ago, American broadcasting station ABC put an end (because of bad ratings) to Twin Peaks, the inimitable cult-series which cast a spell on half the world during 30 episodes and which Channel 2 will broadcast again from tonight. Thousands of questions remained unanswered: will the to 'dough-nuts and damn' good coffee addicted Special Agent Cooper be able to free himself from Killer Bob ? Was it really Leland Palmer, who killed Laura ? What has the Log Lady on her conscience ? And who is the dancing dwarf, anyway ?
Maybe, we will shortly get to now all the answers, because according to more and more persistent rumours David Lynch
and Mark Frost were to shoot brand-new series of Twin Peaks. Meanwhile David Lynch puts the finishing touches to his new movie 'Mulholland Drive', a mixture of 'Twin Peaks', 'Lost Highway' en 'Blue Velvet', according to the film maker.
- How good is the chance that there will be made another 'Twin Peaks'-series ?
DAVID LYNCH « We had to stop the series before Coop had completely solved the mysterie, so we still have to make all the ends meet. If it was up to me, I would have continued the series for a very long time, because there is nothing better than a story that never ends. »
- What is your new movie 'Mulholland Drive' about ?
LYNCH « I got the idea for 'Mulholland Drive' when I was working on 'Twin Peaks'. The managers of ABC asked me to think of a brand-new television series, which could compete with series as 'Friens' and 'ER' from arch-enemy NBC.
I considered 'Mulholland Drive' the ideal title for a television series: it sounds very mysterious, just like 'Lost Highway'. It's about a very old and long road which contains a lot of legends and mysterious stories. I showed them a trial-episode, but they fired it: they thougt it was too slow, too dark and too gloomy. And that settled the matter.
» A year ago I picked up the idea again and now I have made a full movie out of it. I am very satisfied with it, but I still think it is a pity that I wasn't allowed to make television-series of 'Mulholland Drive'. Maybe I should very seriously reconsider the continuation of 'Twin Peaks'...»

I think that Lynch himself made pretty sure there'd never be a future for this series when he released the shambles that comprised the last episode. I remember the rumors that there wasn't actually a script for that, he more or less made it up as he went, and boy did it show ! It was a shame, because for all, or maybe even despite its inherent weirdness, it was a rivetting series, and a bold experiment for its time. The only time I actually felt I had a handle on the series and where it was going was when I read the tie-in novel comprising the diary or biography of Agent Cooper. That explained a lot, particularly the concept that "Bob" was a spirit, a force of pure evil that Cooper had been pursuing following a youthful encounter.
It deserved a better ending. Now for some apple pie, and mug of deep black joe ! -
Because that final episode could never have actually been the *end*. It's all set to keep going, and damn ABC for killing it. For crying out loud, Saturday nights are a lousy time for a series whose principal audience would be out at that time (20s-30s).

Loved the series, but always figured it was just a huge, televised, satirical performance art piece staged by Lynch. My theory is he even engineered the series rapid rise and equally rapid decline. Hell, I bet the lame feature film sequel, "Fire Walk with Me," with it's indecipherable story and derth of characters from the original series, was all part of the plan as well. Now we have rumours of a "reunion show".... Lynch is at this moment, laughing his fuckin' head off.

Damn I miss that show. Too bad this has about as much chance of actually happening as 'Lord of the Rings' being adapted onto the silver screen...What, you can't be serious?! Well in that case, bring back Coop and da Gang .. Mr. Lynch, the world awaits. If we all simultaneously sing "I Believe in Miracles" really frickin' loud then maybe there's a chance. Errr .. yahh. Excuse my touch of skepticism.

...i still couldnt count the number of times I've heard some European or Asian mag rumor that Lynch was doing Twin Peaks again. Give it up people. It isnt going to happen, and this hack little offhand comment (probably poorly translated) doesnt confirm with any serious weight that Lynch is interseted in doing Twin Peaks again...The fact of the matter is Mulholland Drive getting the cold shoulder and oppressive scissors from the television brass has soured Lynch on tv.

oohhh pink triangle on her sleeve. let me know the truth. let me know the truth. WEEZER'S NEW ALBUM COMES OUT IN LESS THAN 3 WEEKS. The GREEN ALBUM. I believe it's release date is May 15th. Buy it, love. David Lych...he's another whatever. Blue Velvet. Classic. Don't you fuckin' look at me. But nothing else he has done, even Twin Peaks in my opinion, comes close. However, given the current state of television, I WOULD watch it.

The series finale was absolutely wonderful! Yeah, sure, it was Lynch throwing all convention out the window, but imagine all those people that had no friggin' clue what was happening! Especially seeing Coop move around in an exaggerated manner--classic! Name a show before this one that had a consistent level of thought and composition, including a thematic soundtrack, thanks to the very talented Badalamenti (sp?).

Hey all. Although any new Twin Peaks is a great longshot, it is known that Lynch has chosen over an hour of footage including many of the cast members who were in the original series, but completely cut from the Fire Walk With Me movie to be included on the upcoming Fire Walk With Me DVD from New Line. However, because of the recent Time Warner/AOL merger, layoffs at New Line has put this project on the cutting block. Fans need to let New Line know that they want to see these scenes. I heard years back that Lynch would be directing an episode of the X-Files where Mulder and Scully travelled to Twin Peaks and we finally found out what happened to Agent Cooper. Could have been pretty cool, especially as Duchoveny was in both shows.

David Lynch needs to cut a deal with HBO like immediately

If Lynch has had problems with TV because of the way ABC treated his "Mulhullond" pilot, wouldn't it follow that HBO would be the perfect venue for him? I mean, if they can get away with "OZ" and "The Sopranos" (which, in my opinion, is one of the closest things to a novel I've ever seen on 'film') then just think of what they could do with Lynch. And, frankly, as much as I loved "Twin Peaks" I think he needs to leave it alone and try something new. I would love to see him tackle a long story in an urban setting.

That Movie, probably is the purest Lynch, but damn, it gives me a headache.
Anyhow, to continue, Twin Peaks, I think Lynch would have to reInvent much of it, since it is 10 years later, likely the actors are 10 years older too. Heh, heh. And, I pretty much that BOB was an evil, possessing spirit was kinda obvious after the Last episode. -

There is a script out there that combines both shows. It's a two-parter, written a few years ago, and did get some recognition. It's truly "disturbing" that it hasn't been produced.

Will there be another "something" Twin Peaks? Yes. With out a doubt in my mind "something" Twin Peaks will show up. Virtually everything that dvelops a cult following shows up again. It might be another 10 or 15 years and Lynch, or any of the original cast will have anything to do with it but it will show up. My guess is that as some point in the future, we will see a TV movie remake. Not thats what I want. I'd rather have a few good novels since there is no chance we'll have the original cast.

What happened to Lynch? Maybe it's all under the radar, but as far as I can tell he's been doing crap for a while now. He's been reduced to doing the european PS2 teaser ads last I checked (WOW, those were bad) and now he's trying to pull Twin Peaks out of his bag of tricks? I don't think you can recover a fad (which Twin Peaks was to the general public, see the giant box office Fire Walk With Me did). Once everybody lost interest in the quirky little show, there was no coming back.

BTW: Where in the hell is Julee Cruise?! Lynch and Badalamenti's collaborations with her are still amazing after all these years.

Unlike, say, Metallica, who are already rich beyond belief and have blown their wad creatively, Weezer is still a relatively young mid-level band with a lot of talent (moreso than any band in the MTV crap rotation.) Download the songs if you simply can't wait, but don't forget to actually buy this CD when it comes out, so that the boys in Weezer can actually afford to keep putting out music. "Let's go away for a while, you and I..."
And Twin Peaks should stay dead. No one's bringing back Max Headroom, L.A. Law, Amazing Stories, and New Coke, so why should Twin Peaks get a second wind? -

His work always give me that same sickly lump in my throat that I get from Rotten.com. Eraser head was grubby. Blue Velvet was painful. Twin peaks was strange, and just kept getting stranger. Lost Highway ... shit, All I remember from that is a couple of breast shots. The only film I actually don't mind so much is Dune -- but Lynch fans Loath Dune. What is this strange 'true artist' dimension that exists with our world of real films. I remember at film school we did a subject that claimed David Lynch's film are the most phsycological films of all time. Excuse me, but is it not more accurate to claim Spielberg's films are the most phsycological films of all time. Gee-suz, Empire strikes back, Titanic and ET are the most mind boggling films ever created. Not for anything else but their pure ability to captivate us through both subject matter and visual story telling. Yes, I'm one of the few people who can remember that Titanic is Cameron's greatest accomplishments. As a film maker myself who has been turned away from investors because my film's are classed as too 'Hollywood' or to 'Spielbergian' themselves, I'm pissed that Lynch is greeted with open arms for his lack of class and wholesome entertainment. let the fans retortion begin. (Is retortion a word?)

Methos - Julee is still sangin', although to a quicker beat than those of Badalamenti. You can catch her on Hybrid's 1999 album Wide Angle, on 6 tracks (High Life, If I Survive, I Know, Dreaming Your Dreams, Snyper, Fatal Beating); on the B(if)tek single Wired for Sound (amazing cover); on the DJ silver album Don't Panic! (two flawless covers - Sweet Dreams, I'm Your Girl); a track by Khan (Body Dump); one with Moby (Drown Disco); and one with The Flow (Artificial World). So she's gone from being smoky lounge chanteuse to clubpop girl. Amusingly enough, a few of these songs are about a woman being killed, buried alive, and so on. Most of the tunes are really excellent and use her unique voice well. Re: Lynch - I'm just excited to hear of Mulholland nearing release! The idea of a new take on Peaks is interesting, and I'm sure it WOULD be very different, but I'd love to see what he'd do with it all. I'd love to see ANY new Lynch TV series, just because it would mean seeing that much more of his work.

Why would it necessarily be a bad thing to take up ten years after the cliffhanger? Leland Palmer lived with BOB inside him since he was a kid. Some might claim Coop has to be in there 25 years, but Lynch himself left an opening since time passes differently in the Black Lodge. Plus, who wouldn't want to see Andy as a bumbling father of a 9 year-old?

... I forgot to add in my long list of recent Julee Cruise stuff - she did a track with DJ Dimitry called Scream of Consciousness. I think this is the Dimitry of Deee-Lite fame, but not really sure. Nifty tune tho.

so.. him doing something with HBO is not out of his reach... anyway.. as much as I wish it would... Twin Peaks isn't going to happen... sorry... give it up... -
.... the last episode was! Of course you have to be adaptable to Lynch's style. The emotions he creates are more important than the logic, but it still has it's own wierd internal logic. TELEVISION SHOW SPOILERS.... the last episode was supposed to a trip into the dreaded Black Lodge, a evil place where only the strongest of souls can survive. Usually filmmakers would shy against a visual presentation of a place that should defy imagination, but Lynch came up with a very satisfyingly terrifying live-action nightmare... and this was on NETWORK TELEVISION! I really hope he makes another TP movie. Hopefully most of the original cast is game. Of course Jack Nance and the dude who played BOB are dead... I suppose I could settle for a recast for the latter, since there's no other way.

yeah, einstein, thanks for the link to the "straight story" review; when i say he "needs to do something new" by new, i mean "as opposed to going back to old, much trod territory." all that returning to Twin Peaks will do for David Lynch is fill forums like this with details about how much the new one sucks when compared to the old one. -- and as a matter of fact, THTSRIT, I know a lot about David Lynch (apparently more than you do) because I remember the Hotel Room series; there were 3 nonconnected episodes and Lynch directed 2 of them (James Signorelli did the other one). When I say he should do an HBO series, what I'm talking about is a full sized, 13 episode HBO series in which David Lynch can actually BE David Lynch. Or at least, perhaps, a mini-series, something like "Wild Palms" if Lynch had actually been involved in "Wild Palms." I guess I should've been talking about Weezer or something.

Have you idiots forgotten about 'On The Air'? Slap down your credit card at your local vid store (if they're worth thier weight in shite), put down a deposit on the tape and watch it. It's fucking brilliant.
And as for TP, yes, it would be a great thing to pick up ten years later. All the cast wants to do it. We all want it. David's probably just biding his time. He's had several projects canned, including 'One Saliva Bubble' (with Steve Martin and Martin Short originally cast) and 'Ronnie Rocket' starring our favorite dwarf. He OWES it to his fans to tie that shit up. I loved the whole series...and YES, I was pissed off at the ending. It would be like Lucas leaving us hanging after 'Empire'. It's cruel. The actor that portrayed BOB passed away years ago. Without him, the show couldnt continue. He was the single scariest "monster" Ive ever seen (in TV or movies). I have nightmares about BOB, and if I think of him before going to bed, I can't sleep. Scary stuff... Whatever Lynch does next, it will be great.

For all those many people bitching about how Twin Peaks never had a 'proper' ending: It may surprise you to know that the last episode of TP was NOT NOT NOT an 'ending' at all... But in fact was a CLIFF-HANGER.
No puzzles were meant to be solved, no solutions were meant to be given: Lynch and Frost made a promise that they wouldn't end it... and gave us a cliff hanger.
In a press conference at the time Lynch and Frost hoped to get ABC interested in it again (this was the time of the infamous Cans of Creamed Corn, Barbie Dolls Wrapped in Plastic, Logs etc being sent to ABC by irate fans!) or if not, they'd take it to another network...
Sadly it never happened (keep those fingers crossed!) but they never intended the last TP episode to answer ANY questions... it was always meant to be continued!
Anyhow, those interested in the classic Fire Walk With Me movie should sign the petition to get the many deleted scenes that Lynch has prepared for us to be included on New Lines upcoming release:

Not to burst anyone's bubble. But what's the use of following up the end of the series? By the last episode nobody was watching anymore. Lynch didn't even participate in most of the shows...'twas the hack Mark Frost who put us all to sleep. And if you are expectind closure on any of those hanging plot lines like the dwarf and Bob...you're not going to find it inside that lunatic Lynch's head.

Well, no one will probably read this as it's an old talk back now, but I agree with MCVamp here. I am a music NUT! I have over 100 650mb discs filled with MP3's. Many from before Napster even existed. But I still buy cd's constantly. Again, kiddies, it's about LEAVING THE HOUSE! I live in an area with cool record stores. Mostly what I download is live, or really hard to get electronic stuff that was VERY LIMITED on vinyl when released. So BUY THE WEEZER RECORD, please. They actually make most of there money touring (and DAMN they are good live), but buying the record will help insure they get to put out another one. BUT! On the download front, you can get the new album on Napster (and elswhere)yes, but you can also get live versions of those songs and songs THAT WON'T BE ON THE ALBUM. That way, when you buy the album, it will be even better. Sorry of topic. WEEZER ROCKS.

I enjoy reading anything about Lynch now that he's dropped off the mainstream radar. Just a couple brief points: (1) Not all Lynch fans loathe "Dune." It was Lynch, but with lots of Name Players (imposed on him?) & it seemed mercilessly edited. Would've been a good miniseries on cable. (2) "Fire Walk with Me" had some of Lynch's best stuff in it. Remember that whole sequence beginning with the camera entering the painting? I was definitely looking at the world differently after leaving the theater, it was the strangest I'd felt since a nutmeg high years before. (3) "Filming a dream"--no one even comes close to Lynch in tryng to render dream-reality. The guy violently shaking in "Lost Highway"--illustrates the process of busting yourself out of a bad dream. (One time when I had one I didn't like, I punched a nearby wall, knowing it wouldn't hurt. My hand kinda sank into the wall like silly putty & the unreality of it woke me up.) (4) Does anyone know how Lynch did the mutant baby in "Eraserhead," on a budget of nothing? Some kind of stop-motion? I know he was experimenting with that early on.

Ok I don't see This Twin Peaks think becoming a reality, not as a continue of the 10 year old cliff-hanger a few of the actors from the show are dead now if im not mistaking, and those sexy "teens" are really in their late 30s. If anyone has read the FWWM screenplay they will see a coda after the story in the film that takes place after Coop is rescued from the blacklodge. Its In the hotelroom where Coop Brushes his teeth, it says something like"Harry I struck my head in the bathroom mirror, it struck me harry it struck me as funny get it??" Coops a basketcase and BOB is Gone back to the Blacklodge forever. And Re- twinpeaks/x-files I think everyones thinking of x-files/Picket fences crossover they were gonna to in the second season of x-files. The article also makes no sense Because friends and ER were not on the air in 1991. So what the hell? BTW The first episode of ON THE AIR was so funny I was in Tears. Hey how bout a movie With Heather Grayham "Annie" Possesed by BOB and killing crazy Twin Peaks folks. Theres a flick lol. Did anyone else think the killing of Lauras Cousin "Maddy" by Leland was rather brutal for prime-time TV in 1990?
That scene still creeps me out, Complete with Insane Spotlight as the BlackLoge Shriners look on from hell.

Oh man, I just had to speack a few words...first off...weezer's Green Album in a week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Long Live Geek Rock. Now, as far as David Lynch goes, Twin Peaks was by far one of the best tv series ever to grace the small screen. If you didn't get it, that's fine. But that doesn't mean that is was weird just for weird's sake. If you ever read a David Lynch article, you know that he thinks long and hard about every minute detail of a story. He never just throws in something to be 'weird'; ok, well, not too often, anyways. And Dale Cooper has to be one the most fully fleshed-out and interesting lead role characters in t.v. EVER!!!!! Oh man, I could go on and on. Anyways, never rule out the possibility on a Twin Peaks reunion. This is the man who followed up his most bizzare and surreal story with a movie for Disney!!! Noone knows what plans lie in Lynch's head, so it's ridiculous for anyone to just make assumptions. Now if you pardon me, I'm gonna go watch Wild at heart and blare "Island in the Sun on repeat. Thank you.
