10 Minute Presentation of Fincher & Freeman's Digital Version of Clarke's RENDEZVOUS WITH RAMA at Comdex!

Published at:  Apr 17, 2001 1:29:26 PM CDT

Hey folks, Harry here... Roland from a.fincher.news.site - www.davidfincher.cjb.net has found the footage of a recent presentation that Morgan Freeman and Lori McCreary made at Comdex where they showed an early teaser for RENDEZVOUS WITH RAMA... as well as some examples of some of the pre-visualizations for the film. Morgan is hoping that they can have the movie finished by some point in 2003. Folks... we've always been saying that we want SMART SCIENCE FICTION on the screen. Well this novel, with David Fincher directing and Moebius designing and actors like Morgan Freeman involved... well... this is what the dream is about if they can make it a reality. Enjoy... And check out Comdex.Com to enjoy and learn about the whole conference!!!!

Hey Harry !

It's me Roland from a.fincher.news.site - www.davidfincher.cjb.net

Lori McCreary producer of Rama told us that she and Morgan Freeman attented this year's Comdex to talk a little about Rama during Intel's presentation.

She also let us know that they showed the crowd a conceptual clip, a digital version of Rama and a model of one of the biots. I thought that was freaking cool... but I was a little sad that I couldn´t see all of this... until now

If you want to see the presentation...

CLICK HERE and go to 43:30 in the video. (Sorry that it is in ASX format, but that's all I've found it in.)

I want to see Rama more than Lord of the Rings, Star Wars or Matrix 2.

With Fincher, Moebius, Freeman, McCreary and more genius people working on this 100m $ project this just has to be my number 1 movie I want to see!

I read the book 4 or 5 years ago and it is a FANTASTIC exploration/adventure/mystery story. Does this mean that Morgan is going to be in the movie as well?

    better than 2001

    by peachboy2k

Rendevous with Rama if done properly can be way better than 2001. Lets just hope Fincher can do sci-fi better than Alien3

Just saw the clip, and that spider robot looked sweet

Sure the sequence wasn't rendered yet. But the movements were stunning. This movie sounds very good and it looks like it's in the right hands with Fincher. Morgan seemed a little awkward talking about the technology, but then again he never claimed he was a techno-geek. Intel rocks, G4 sucks!!! Sorry, obligatory bash-Harry moment.

    Fincher's a damn sharp director.

Freeman's a damn sharp actor. This sounds like one helluva production.
Two of my favorite things regarding the film world nowadays: Fincher and Science Fiction. I'm hoping two positives don't make a negative.

    YES!

    by ar42

If you listen in the clip, somebody says that they are going to use real actors after all, and just use CG to create the environment. From the website, it had sounded like they were going the all-CG route. I'm so happy! Real actors will serve this particular story much better. Morgan Freeman will kick ass!

  • Maybe we can see it while waiting for Return of the King.

    All the good things

    by tyler76

My God this is good news.
Going with real actors is a very bright move indeed. No matter how advance the CG may get in the few years time, it will still lack the basic tenecity of a human being soul to convey emotions.
As always I know David Fincher will not dissapoint.
With all the science fiction crap that's out there, hope this movie will repare the damage.
We need good science fiction movies, man....no we need good movies man!!
    David, pave the way!!!

    Smart Sci Fi

    by solaris

I'm looking forward to "Rendevous with Rama" in a big way. I was a big fan of the book in high school, and yes, it is a sign of smart sci fi. The Matrix was good, but "smart" sci fi? On the whole, I'd say it was just average. Since we're talking about Clarke, wouldn't it be great to see a movie based on "Childhood's End" (my personal Clarke favorite). And why stop with Clarke? Asimov's "Foundation Trilogy" would make a tremendous film. Before there was Darth Vader, there was "the Mule." Let's not forget a few other folks out there, like William Gibson, Bruce Sterling, Rudy Rucker, Samuel Delany, and Octavia Butler. All of these people have put together some very filmable and smart sci fi work. Yeah, I want to see a "Matrix 2," but I'd go see film adaptations of the afore-mentioned authors and their works first.
