Herschell Gordon Lewis To Direct A New Film!!! Ever had an Egyptian Feast' Want another'

Published at:  Apr 13, 2001 6:44:57 AM CDT

Hey folks, Harry here and I was wondering, Have you ever had... An Egyptian Feast? I have, at the Alamo Drafthouse when I saw Herschell Gordon Lewis' BLOOD FEAST projected on screen during a delightful GORE Fest last year... There simply are not enough filmmakers in the world that truly understand the glory of full on gore done for the joy of disturbing the hell out of people. It isn't death fantasy... it is about 'getting somebody's goat'. For me at least, I treat GORE like an old crank up handbuzzer... a whoopee cushion. And a filmmaker like Herschell Gordon Lewis as the man making me flinch, twitch and go, "Eeeewwwwwwww" as the man pulling the strings. Sure it's hard to look at... but that's kinda the whole point. It's about how much you can take and when do you have to close your eyes and for how long... I AM DYING TO SEE HGL DO A SEQUEL FILM TO BLOOD FEAST! Hehehehe, I can't believe it... a new Herschell Gordon Lewis film?!?!?!?! What wonderful times we live in!!!

Hi Harry ...

Jeez I forgot, and how could I have forgotten. Let me just chop off my hand
...

The greatest news Mellow and Hannibal scooped up during the Brussels Film
Festival was the scoop that "Godfather of Gore" Hershell Gordon Lewis, at
the tender age of 75, is going to direct again.

You may remember him from
such films as "The Gore-Gore Girls", "Miss Nymphet's Zap-Inn", "She-Devils
on Wheels" and "Monsters A Go-Go".

We had the chance to meet the master
face-to-face, and boy is he nice. He reminded me a lot of my own
grandfather, except for the fact that mine doesn't talk about tongues
getting ripped out is if it were the most normal thing in the world ...

Mr Lewis talked about the fact that he was so surprised that people still
enjoy his films (he was there to host a retrospective of four of his
best films.

He also told us that he was getting a lot of offers for
directing gore-movies, but that he wasn't really interested until a script
for Blood Feast 2 came along with which he was reasonably happy, although,
he said, that it wasn't quite how he would have written it.

Still that's not
going to stop him from directing his first film since the 1972 quickie Black
Love.

Mr Gordon told us that shooting would begin this summer in June, but
he didn't know when (if ever) it is going to be released. He told us that he
was really happy with the fact that he could direct again, since the
directing-itch has never disappeared.
Let's hope it turns out good ...

that's the last word from me this year, see you next time ...

sincerely

Hannibal

(who had Mellow for dinner)

    Gordon Forever!!!

    by harryknuckles

"A good film only needs to be two things: one to be in focus, and two, to be in sync." Herschell Gordon Lewis said that in his audio commentary on the Wizard of Gore DVD. The man in a genius. This news of him directing a new film is better news then if Stanley Kubrick rose from the dead to direct a sequel of Clockwork Orange. God bless Herschell Gordon Lewis, god bless his new film.

    Blood Feast Novel

    by selfsimilar

I lent my copy out like a moron, so I can't whether it preceded the movie or not (I'm guessing not) but the book (written by HGL himself) was one of the single most awesome books I've ever read. Okay, so it's no Ulysses, but this book was funny and so self-aware of the kitsch factor and spun it so beautifully. Anyone have a clue where I could pick up another copy? Amazon's out of stock. Gee, that's hard to imagine.

    YES!

Th man who freaked me out as an unsuspecting kid when I rented "Wizard Of Gore" from a neighborhood video store (loved those small video stores, all stocked up on exploitation, cheesy, gory and fun horror films). I became addicted and soon reneted anything I could find from HG Lewis..."Blood Feast", my personal favorite "2000 Maniacs", "Blood Red" (I think that was the title, was about an artist that painted with actual blood), "The Gore-Gore Girls" ah, the list goes on...A few years ago I managed to buy "Blood Feast" and "2000 Maniacs" from Best Buy for $6.95 each!

    I can't wait.... :)

This really cranks my HAPPY (and somewhat concerned...) dillrod!

Uh...while I am pleased that the master has returned, I wonder if he can capture that which made his earlier films so remarkable. Remember the long stretches of scenes without dialogue in The Wizard of Gore? The unusual sound score? The almost European style of editting? What about the guy that starred in many of the films? The school teacher on his way to a convention in 2000 Maniacs? I wish H.G. all the best - i hope that this script he has received is true to his original vision (the underlying vision, that went beyond mere gore).
I will be eagerly awaiting with dillrod in hand!

There already is a Blood Feast 2

    by robertblood

Glenn Danzig did the soundtrack. I talked with Danzig myself in a comic book shop. He told me that he did it and the film never got released. He said he was going to be releasing the music itself in the future (this is '92 or '93). That could be where Black Aria came from.
