A ton of K-19 Set photos!!!

Published at:  Apr 11, 2001 4:52:27 AM CDT

Hey folks, Harry here with pics from the far away world where they be shooting K-19 with Harrison Ford and Liam Neeson... where Kathryn Bigelow is calling the shots and hopefully... one of the best fall films is being made! Here are the shots heard and seen around the world this morning! Enjoy...

Hi Harry,

Attached are some digital photos (12 to be exact) of shots from the set of
K-19: The Widow Maker. Don't ask me how I got these, but they are awesome
shots. Basically, I got them from a friend, who got them from a friend, who
got them from a friend, who got them from a friend, etc. etc. etc.

So, just so we are clear, I did NOT take these photos. So I don't wish to
take credit for someone else's sneakiness.

Having said that, onto to the photos!

I broke these pics into two categories: 1) Movie Set 2) Cast and Crew.

MOVIE SET:

Pictures 1 through 4 show fake facades going around existing buildings on
the set. Clearly, our buildings here in Halifax (as old as they are) don't
look quite Russian enough for the Producers, therefore, fake coverings have
been applied to better reflect what a naval base in Russia would look like.

The last two pics show the actual sub in dry-dock. These photos are
somewhat misleading. They are working on an actual Russian sub that is
being used in the movie. When you look at the pictures, the sub looks like
hell. I don't if the sub is either being repaired, OR prepared. Either
way, these are very good shots.

CAST AND CREW

Here's the fun stuff. All of these shots are taken of the cast and crew
in between takes. The first shot is of Harrison Ford looking very casual in
his Russian navy uniform and talking to who I am assuming is the director.

The next pic is a bird's eye view of what looks like Liam Neeson with crew
members around him discussing the next shot.

Pictures 3 and 4 show crew
members and extras waiting for the next shot to be set up. You can easily
see the sub in the background in one shot.

Pictures 5 and 6 show Harrison
Ford along with the cast and crew with the sub in the background.

Whoever took these shots was obviously not too discrete because in some of
them you can see the cast and crew looking right at the photographer saying,
"what the fuck?"

Anyway, I hope you, and AICN readers enjoy them!

Harrison Ford, a captain again. Looking forward to this, and all that controversy that will come about.

To have heard the story that allowed this guy to so blatantly take these pictures. You just don't see this kind of lax security any more...Perhaps this guy is a journalist...?

    Kathryn Bigelow rules!

    by kyle.reese

I'm so glad she's finally coming back after nearly six years of hibernation. Bigelow is the ultimate female director (vastly underappreciated), she even puts many male action directors to shame. I loved Near Dark, Point Break and Strange Days (anything else she's done I haven't seen, but I'm sure they're great too), and am eagerly awaiting K-19. Her filmography really shows true range (horror, sci-fi, crime, now historical). She's a true feminist role model in Hollywood.

I know it's all praise, but imagine the conversation between two film giants about another film giant? Wow, that would be really cool.

Not only that, you should have heard Ford and Neeson talking...

    by i am_notreal

Ford: "So, Liam, can you believe that sh*t that George pounds out? How much did you have to drink to say that stuff?" Neeson: "It was pretty crappy. I almost quit movies over it. All that 'young padawan' BS, I thought I was in a remake of Kung-Fu. But, hey, it grossed $400 mil." Ford: "Ah, well, a few more like those and you'll be able to make all the garbage you want and people will still love you. Just don't do another 'Gun Shy' until after Episode II comes out." Neeson: "I'm just a ghost in the next one. Ewan McGregor has all the crappy lines this time out. I read on Ain't It Cool News that he has to say stuff like 'I assure you he is.'" Ford: "Well, he just does Star Wars so he can make all the money he needs and then go back to doing indies where he can show his schlong." Neeson: "And an impressive schlong it is, too!" Ford: "So I hear. George was even considering a 'flesh-colored lightsaber' scene this time out."

    FINGER

    by ok then

Seems like in "Patriot Games" the Finger of Doom convinced the Sinn Fein "Under-the-table-arms-fundraiser" character to turn over some of his own folks to the CIA. It's a helluva finger, and should never be underestimated.

never mind the Finger of Doom ....

    by skiprat2000

... impressive though it may be.
Have you seen the size of the directors head? ... in the pic of her in some green suit talking
to The Finger of Doom bearer... her
head is so small .... is that why she's wearing a protective suit?
is she The Finger of Doom's arch-enemy? Is she some warped small-faced
megalomaniac intent on the destruction of the Finger of Doom's career?
if yes, hasn't she already won?

    Discovery Channel already did this

    by zonkk

AFAIK a few years ago there was a documentary series on the Discovery Channel where they analysed various disasters and also re-enacted them using real footage and acted stuff. And one of the episodes was , as I recall, about this K19 Russian submarine disaster. It was riviting to watch. Seeing proper footage, interviews with the people involved and acted out really well in a real submarine was awesome. I am sure that lots of people saw that and thought "Bloody hell - this hour-long TV thing is edge-of-your-seat stuff. Just imagine what a full length film would be like!".
