Neo, Trinity and Morpheus' Car in MATRIX 2'

Published at:  Mar 28, 2001 5:03:47 PM CST

Hey folks, Harry here with JonnyGT here with what he believes to be the mysterious car that Neo and crew will be driving in the MATRIX sequel... Now this isn't confirmed yet, but I've been hearing this alot... might just be wishful speculation, but all I know is if I were Neo, I'd be driving this baby cuz it just is suhweet... Take a look and pick me up one for my birthday or christmas... or even better an UNBIRTHDAY SOON!!! Heheheh, damn that's a fine looking car.... EMERGENCY UPDATE - The car in MATRIX that is being driven by the good guys is a Cadillac Catera 5-seat sedan... Morpheus and Trinity are in this Catera... Now the car below and the Catera are very very close cousins. And just for the record... Neo isn't in this car or the Catera for that matter...

Harry,

JonnyGT here. (from chat)

I follow cars quite closely and I took notice when I heard that Neo,
Morpheus and Trinity drive a silver GM roadster that will be released right
around the time the films would be released. The production wants to keep
the car secret, even confiscating film taken of the car. I have pictures of
the car which I believe to be the one they are driving.

It is called the
Cadillac Evoq, which would make sense because the Agents drive new Cadillac
Escalades.

The car is a new GM roadster which should be released in 2003,
here are the links to the pics.

What's the "loading in" limit in the Matrix?

    by sethshandor

I mean, the "rebels" or whatnot, can load themselves into the Matrix, along with weapons, ammo, explosives, elvator shaft hook thingy devices, and phones and and knowledge they happen to need (how to fly a helicopter). But where does it end? Can they give themselves ANY car? How about a fighter jet? tanks? Giant robot anime suits? Sentinel-type programs that work for them on the inside? I mean it's not real, so could Neo bring in a atom bomb? Is there a limit? Does it have to be "real," at least to the time they think it is? Or how about a Hovership like they have in the real world? Could they bring a version of THAT into the Matrix?

ok, if you're Neo, you can dodge bullets, walk on walls, jump great distances, hell, you can even stop bullets and fly like f'n superman... so wtf do you need a car for? not that the car pictured isn't a great looking roadster, but really, why would you need a car?

Killing a lot of police men? blowing up the first floor of a building? Shooting the hell out of a high rise? Crashing a helicopter into it? Flying around like Superman? Yeah, that's keeping a low profile. With Neo being "The one" now, I figured they be more ready to "take the fight to them" as it were. Just wondering what they could take exactly....

These cars are freaking sweet! I saw one in some magazine about a year ago. I went to a car show a couple days later, and the Cadillac guy there had never even heard of it. I had my doubts as to whether they would ever be produced, but if it ends up in the Matrix, you can bet your sweet bippie that it will. You can see that there are no outside mirrors or door handles. There are rear-mounted cameras and sensors that let you know when you're going to back into anything, and I think there's some kind of remote keyless/handleless entry. They're really technologically advanced for cars, and if this rumor's true, I can't think of anything better for a Matrix movie. Now if I could only figure out why they needed cars....

    by caladon2000

see, it's like hacking into a computer program... you can't hack into it if it's not hooked up to your own frequency... so there's no way they could create a sentinel program that works for them on the inside, for the exact same reason that the agents can't just jump into Neo or Morpheous... they're not directly linked.
and WHY THE F*CK would they bring in a tank or an atom bomb? it's not like either would kill an agent, and that's all they're really trying to do. The only reason they bring in weapons is so that they can take out those little human military minions that the agents have following their a*ses around... they don't want to wipe out a city, or even be too conspicuous, i'd bet.

    why they need cars

    by mmeridius

Have any of you even seen the first one? How did they get to the Oracle? How did they pick Neo up from his appartment? How did the agents take Neo to the station? Like the prior poster said, the aim is to keep a low profile i.e. blendin in with the surroundings. So you can't be fuckin doing superman, that's why you need cars. Besides, although I know none of yer will admit it, and however out of place you presume it is in a matrix film, i always love a good carchase, hell you coulda put a carchase in Chocolat I woulda dug it. No serious, if they do a Bullitt or pull a Ronin.....or shit i even liked the car chases in TJ Hooker - jus imagine the Wachowski's riggin that? Hell I'm so at Matrix 2, no matter what the jarjar lovin ewok molesters say...........oh yea, to that other guy who said, killing cops, crashing helicopters isn't exactly sneaking around....the agents were running the squiddie shit things soon as they had morpheus, so it wouldn't have made a whole lotta difference how trinity and neo made their entrance, right? ie a traceroute was been run....

    Beautiful looking car.....but!

    by gabba-uk

This is I feel final proof that the Wachowski Brothers have sold out. They made the last film on on a realativly small budget. Kept it tight and focused, concentrated on script and the very inventive use of SFX as a story telling medium. And then suddenly in the new one they have more money, a franchise to make even more and now have product placement on scale not seen since Bond started driving BMW's!! The car that they had before was just SOOO much cooler to look at than this one. It had charecter and a sense of purpose about it. This is just eye-candy for the pre-pubesant 12/13 boys who see the movie and who don't yet know much about girls and won't be drooling over Carrie-Anne Moss in PVC like the rest of us will be!! I just hope the Brothers remember what made the last one so must-see or the Matrix sequels are in very real danger of becomeing as bloated and sluggish as the last two Batmans were.

    I have a theory on Neo's power...

    by fishface

The Matrix had Neo in it for quite a few years, and also now knows what he is capable of through log files on the Agent programs he encountered (and destroyed). Why, then, couldn't the Matrix remake parts of itself to home in on Neo as he exerts his power? Or even Dampen it? Could Neo stand against an entire city of Agents? Remeber, too that every time Neo kills an Agent, he kills thier host, too. Wouldn't he be concerned about that?

    by devils halo

sure, you're right, they took Neo to see the Oracle in a car, picked him up in a car at his apartment, but I always thought that was for Neo's benefit as he didn't believe he was the "One". And if he wanted to be so 'low profile' as you say, why do the Superman *up, up and away* bit on a busy street from a phone booth? It's a script that had holes, but was filled with so much eye-candy, people didn't notice.

    Matrix within a Matrix

    by chrisd

Somebody previously mentioned a matrix within a matrix. I wouldn't be surprised if they do that. The 'real world' with the hovercraft etc. is still within a Matrix. That's why Trinity could bring Neo back to life with a kiss, he didn't really die in the "real world." It would be interesting to see where they ultimately wake up...

You're going to see the coolest car chase ever...

    by mesma mahar

I remember reading months ago about a planned car chase sequence for the Matrix sequels where the agents are chasing the good guys. Neo has showed the other humans how to kill agents, and they're wasting agents during a car chase (apparently, not everyone is like Neo and can fly), BUT EVERYTIME THEY KILL AN AGENT IN THE NEXT CAR, HE JUST ASSUMES ANOTHER DRIVER ON THE ROAD IN A DIFFERENT CAR, AND HE'S AFTER THEM AGAIN, so they never really get away clean. This would sure explain why they have built a set that is nothing more than a stretch of open road, and if you ask me, it sounds like a pretty fucking cool scene. And if they want to use a bunch of Cadillac concept cars to make the BEST CHASE SCENE EVER, which GM is no doubt providing for free, more power to them. The production saves money they can use elsewhere (like effects), Cadillac gets free advertising, and the vehicles they use won't look so fucking cheesy...think how crappy all the rigs in Total Recall looked - thats not the way to go. It all comes down to why I liked the first Matrix, its a term I like to call "SHIT YOU'VE NEVER SEEN BEFORE", and I'm willing to bet the next two movies will have a lot more of that.

Cadillac should stay the hell away from the roadster market!

    by captblack

Now, compare this hunk of steel shit to a 50's era Jaguar, even a 70's era MG, then come back and say whether GM knows how to build a sports car. GM has never build anything even close, not even the corvette (muscle car, not sports, not even Grand Touring.)

Of course, a "roadster" technically cannot have wind-up windows, it must have side curtains, so there hasn't been a true roadster made since the 50's.

In any case, a Porsche or BMW will kick this things ass on the street--and there's 30 years of technical statistics to back up that statement!

    Not the Evoq

    by jlw

The car they are using isn't the Evoq, at least it doesn't look like the pictures of the Evoq shown here. The front is similar, but the car they are using is a 4 door, and is more normal looking (one of the people that saw it mistook it for a Mitsubishi at first).

In case, you are curious, I work right near where they are filming (it's a little weird hearing submachine gun fire while working).

I have to agree with you, the superman-bit seemed a bit of a disconnect.....but maybe that was the point, didn't you think 'How the fuck is he doing that?' it was as good a leaving shot as any to walk out the theatre considering as a premise for a sequel? Still, I agree it was silly, though partially saved by the rage against the machine track.....you ask why do that on a crowded street? hey, i'm really not one to question movie logic too much! i'm one of those suspend-belief kinda people....it was what it was....still a bit sucky all the same....the Trinity-Neo kiss too....i thought that was a bit lame ass too.....BTW check out one of the new Matrix chicks---Monica Bellucci----some tasty online pics out there! just another comment to the guy who said the matrix was insipid....maybe, maybe......but what sorta coolasfuck, hip place are u living or movies u watching? I was blown away----I mean wasn't that lobby scene fuckin cool? well, maybe i was taken in! so be it....Sure, we could see where they lifted concepts, styles - but it was the method they were juxtaposed that lifted the bar i thought. Noted we've been punished by hollywood matrix-clone derivative crap since......but that's exactly why I'm keeping an open mind for 2 & 3, I trust they'll re-invent it again...fwiw....

Catera and Evoq are not related

    by dracos

The Catera is a rebodied Opel Vectra (Opel is a division of GM in Europe). The Evoq, however, is what Caddilac did when GM highups told them they could make a platform-mate of the Corvette. And If I remember right, the Evoq is supposed to be released next year or the year after.

No, the Matrix is not turning into a commercial at all.

    Getting into the Matrix

    by atesh

The one point everyone is overlooking is they can't get back into the Matrix. At the end of the movie the hovership was trashed by the invading Sentinels. The only way to prevent the Sentinels from killing everyone on board was to fire the EMP. Nothing was powered down or sheilded before they fired the EMP. The Hovership is now toast. The Core that they used to "broadcast their pirated signal and hack into the Matrix" is also fried. The first part of the new movie has got to be the cast fighting for survial in the "real world". Just my two cents worth.

hmm... I'm a stupid ass, am I? Well, maybe if you read my comments about this article, about why I felt he did not need a car, and the argument with mmeridius that he did NOT need to keep a low profile BEFORE Harry posted his update that Neo will not be seen in the car, it would make more sense. Oh, and your comment, "It's not like he can be everywhere at once, geniuses." Well, if you're the "One" and you have this total control over yourself in the Matrix, you very well could be. Did you see the first movie? The only limitations Neo has are in his mind. But then again, you're a MisterPotatoHead. You take it up the ass and you're full of yourself, so you might not get it.
