Anthony Michael Hall On DEAD ZONE, Not STAR TREK!! Casting Correction Here!!

Published at:  Mar 17, 2001 12:18:00 PM CST

Hey, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab.

Earlier this week, I got a letter in from a spy that I categorized as a rumor, involving Anthony Michael Hall being cast in UPN's new STAR TREK show. Well, Variety broke the story that Hall will actually be appearing as Johnny Smith, the lead in the new series THE DEAD ZONE, also on UPN. I haven't had a chance to read the script for this show's pilot yet, but I know Smilin Jack Ruby of Fandom.com read it, and what he had to say was interesting. It sounds like a fairly faithful adaptation of the beginning of King's novel, with several storylines set up to play out over an entire season. It's an ambitious idea, and although I adore the work Jeffrey Boam and David Cronenberg did in adapting King's novel to the bigscreen, I'm up for a smart retelling of the material that allows for real attention to character. It sounds like a great showcase for an actor, and Anthony Michael Hall's got his work cut out for him. Christopher ("THE ICE............... IS GONNA BREAK!!") Walken's performance in the film is iconic, one of his best. I'll definitely be checking this show out when it hits the air and at least give the pilot a chance.

"Moriarty" out.

God, that show's going to suck. The Dead Zone sounds pretty cool. The movie was intresting, but kinda cheezy.

They're going to screw up that show big time! Rick Berman should be replaced by Peter David!

  • Oooooh, this week AMH discovers a plot to(Insert concerned topic of the week here.). Who's running UPN? Can't they come up with anything better?! 1,000 chimps and a fucking typewriter no doubt! Incidentely, Drew Barrymore was the baby that Martin Sheen holds up to protect himself in the film from Walken.

That Walken SNL skit was one of the funnest things I've ever seen. Every time he hosts, I bust a gut laughing. Some cham-pan-ye, anyone?

  • ...i'm gonna load up on guns and bring my friends. don't desecrate the names of stephen king, christopher "you know what god did to me? HE THREW AN 18-WHEEL TRUCK AT ME!" walken, david cronenberg and anthony michael "gimme the keeze!" hall by fucking this one up. focus on the characters just as much as the situations and you'll have a winner. i may get flamed for this, but you know what sounded kinda cool? kiefer sutherland's in some new series called '24' where he plays a fed with 24 hours to foil an assassination. each show focuses on one hour leading up to the event. could be interesting, IMHO. any thoughts?

    Drew Barrymore & Stephen King

    by therealmoriarty

Hey, Uncapie, I certainly don't mean to start any guff here, but I'm gonna have to call booooshit on your DEAD ZONE trivia knowledge. Drew Barrymore is NOT the little girl who Martin Sheen holds up to protect himself. Look at the timeline: 1982 was E.T. She was already a fairly established public name, enough so that in 1984, she was starring in FIRESTARTER. THE DEAD ZONE came out smack dab between the two films, in 1983. Picture Barrymore and how old she was at that point. There's no reference I've read anywhere to the film, either, that would suggest the Barrymore cameo. Wish I had the new DVD of the film here to check, but I'm pretty sure you got a wire crossed somewhere.

Jeeze, I do believe you are correct, Sir!

Man, I got this info from a guy who is Martin Sheen's best friend and does massage therapy! I should have known better! He also said that Ray Walston died in October 2000, which was bullshit because I had talked to him on the phone and there was nothing in the news at that time. He did die in fact January 1st and I was invited to the funeral, which was very sad because he was a great, kind man. God damnit! Next time I won't trust and actor and I'll check my facts!

    Uhhh...check the release dates,folks

    by johnny the boy

There is not a chance in hell that Drew Barrymore was the baby. ET was released in 1982. The Dead Zone was released in 1983. It did not sit on a shelf, and it was not filmed in the 70's. The Barrymore /King connection is limited to Cat's Eye and Firestarter.
By the By, The Dead Zone series is the WORST idea I have heard in a while.

I should have know better! "E.T." was released in 1982!

    by uncapie

There's no way she could have been the baby! She was "Gertie" in "E.T." and was around six or seven years old! Boy, I screwed the pooch on this one!
