Frat Boy gives a tiny peek based on an early test screening of John Dahl's JOYRIDE

Hey folks, Harry here with a filmmaker that I always keep an eye on... John Dahl... his favorite genre seems to be THRILLER and so far he has told a couple of great ones (RED ROCK WEST and THE LAST SEDUCTION) and some not so great as well. But as someone that always looks on the sunny side of life, I hope and wish for the best from him always... Well his film is still quite a ways off but it sounds as though this film is definitely on a better path than UNFORGETTABLE... So there's hope... Enjoy...

I got to attend a test screening of the new John Dahl thriller "Joyride" last Thursday night here in Orange County.

For anyone not familiar with this one, it is basically the same story as Spielberg's "Duel" but told with in a "I Know What You Did Last Summer" kind of way.

The victims of the evil truck driver have taunted him with a CB radio practical and he inflicts revenge consisting of a pursuit where there seems to be no escaping him. I don't wanna say to much for fear of ruining the suspense.

I have to say I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed it. I wasn't glued to the edge of my seat the entire time, and I could tell they had a lot more to work on with this movie but I liked it nevertheless.

The movie stars Paul Walker, Lelee Sobieski and the always funny Steve Zahn. Steve Zahn had all the great lines and all the best scenes. He stole the movie as I expected he would.

Anyways, the movie is called "Joyride" and look for it when it comes out. Anything from the director of "Red Rock West" and "The Last Seduction" can't be too bad, right? I dunno, anyone remember "Unforgettable"?

You can call me Frat Boy.

I kind of liked Unforgettable. the title sucked, but the story was suspenseful and fun. But then again, maybe I'm high.

Isn't this just a remake of Duel ?

    by horrorbiz777

Shouldn't they credit Richard Matheson ? I mean short of actually CALLING it Duel, they pretty much ripped everything else off. Oh wait... I'm sorry, instead of having one person be terrorized they have three, and instead of having the trucker run after the guy for nothing they come up with a lame-ass "taunt" from the 3 victims. Uh-huh, uh-huh. Poor Richard Matheson they also mostly ripped off his 1973 movie "Dying Room Only" to make Breakdown with Kurt Russell. So now instead of remakes and useless sequels, we have remakes, sequels and rip-offs. So nice...

I saw this movie when it was "Squelch"

    by atlantis2001

Back last August, they had a test screening of this movie when it was called "Squelch".They had it in La Crescenta,CA. at my local United Artists theatre.I liked what I saw.Steve Zahn was funny as he often is,and I thought it was an effective and suspensful thriller. Now seeing as how it got delayed so long and then there was another test screening,I assume the 1st test screening did'nt go so well and by the time this movie is released in September, over a year since the 1st test screening, there will be some major changes on the final print from what I saw. It's too bad, because I thought what they had already was fine and would of made for a good thriller.Oh well. I do like the title "Joy Ride" much better than "Squelch"
